Beyond that... other animals don't have the sense of freedom or oppression that humans do. They can be bored, unhappy or afraid, but they can't comprehend freedom in the way that we can. It's not slavery, no, because they're not built with a sense of self-ownership. They'd need a sense of SELF first.

In the long term, when the poaching and hunting gets under control, zoos can start breeding and reintroducing the species. Also, as I stated, being allowed to observe animals may kindle a desire to better understand and care for the animals, thus increasing the "people who give a damn" to "people who want a nice lion rug" ratio in our favour.

That is Makonnen-he is no longer with the Brookfield Zoo. I believe he was sent to a zoo down in Texas 3 years ago. He is not that old-10 perhaps. The current lion is Zenda and he's 4 1/2.
