"Clare Fischer" was very inspiring on the Fender Rhodes tine timbre when he plays, it introduced me to the "Salsa" latin piano & brass music genre with the likes of Poncho Sanchez, Cal Tjader, Hilton Ruiz, Tito Fuente. His "Morning" track is sublime and the vocal version with "2+2 or Foreign Exchange" with intricate harmonies is steeped! He will be sadly missed! Salsa Picante and Mission Accomplished Clare...Kudos, Migs.
This man was my neighbor from when I was around 7 to 15 years of age. I will miss him very much...
I remember walking into his house and I used to look at all the records on his wall. His wife used to buy chocolates from my little catalog to raise money for my school.
He told my mom and I that we were his favorite neighbors.
UN EXITO DE ANTAÑO.... NUNCA PASARA DE MODA.... GRACIAS A ESOS PRODIGIOS DEL JAZZ, DISFRUTAMOS DE ESTAS INCREIBLES COMPOSICIONES E INTERPRETACIONES, VIVA EL J A Z Z .....
@diggah009 The album is "Salsa Picante" and is out of print. I consider it to be one of his best works. Check Clare's web site and him an email for a copy. Good Luck.
I consider this song so unique that I have loved it since I was very young. The maestro Claire Fischer plays the keyboard like no one can play this song. Of course belongs to him, he is the composer, but it is played with a lot of sentiment. Congrat.... Clair Fischer for this great song. R. Salazar
Terrific sound (and kudos to the input of the photos too). Cal Tjader is one of my favorite Latin jazz musicians and Fischer's tune on his keyboard is wonderful. Thanks.
@kooljazzkingman from the first Salsa Picante group album on Concord. It featured a young Alex Acuna on drums. I wore out 2 vinyl copies! Clare was one of my favorite teachers.
Such a splendid performance; Clare is so great, what a priviledge to have his music available. I begin each day listening to this, what a great start.
i think clare fisher is the master of electric keyboards. he really knows exactly what to take out and what to leave in. the perfect balance! maybe it comes from being such a gifted arranger
Actually, Clare's initial FR use was purely pragmatic; the condition of pianos being SO variable, going the Fender route was simply the only way to guaranty a decent & in-tune keyboard at any given gig. OTOH, this marriage of convenience would quickly become so much more, as CF became ever more enamored of the electric instrument's orchestral possibilities; now, neither Clare nor we could conceive of Salsa Picante or any of its descendants w/ anything BUT an electric keyboard.
So true. Ironically, 'arranger's piano' is usually a dismissive, condescending assessment of arrangers - including many great ones - who really aren't pianists but, often for financial reasons, assume that role anyway. In Clare's case, however, his compositional sense, harmonic vocabulary, experience in both arranging & orchestration (including, significantly, his facility on many instruments) all contribute to a uniquely orchestral & - dare I say - holistic approach to the keyboard.
BTW, Clare is fully cognizant of the somewhat singular combination he embodies. From a 1999 interview: "I think of myself as a writer who plays the piano. [Plays a passage in which the little finger of the right hand plays three melody notes while the other fingers hold.] That’s not what you would call piano-type technique. That’s arranger-type technique. But because I’ve played the keyboard so much, I probably play more than most arrangers do, and I arrange more than most pianists do."
Man...I know this from Cal Tjader's albums from back in the day, but THIS is as sweet as I imagined it woud be. Man, the Rhodes was MADE FOR THIS SONG!

Good news, camposmusic! Our stories are remarkably similar. After almost 30 years, I reacquired the album by writing Mr. Fischer. Just go to his web site and order the CD online. He's quite a friendly chap. But hurry.
