  • By the way, I was a bit surprised when I read some comments here. I'm very sorry to say this, but they seem based on 19 centuries' economics, which have an implicit assumption that a market can exist independently from the condition of consumers. But what would happen on the market when the consumers there lose their jobs? The market can dissipate like vapor and even the most competitive businesses will go bankrupt in the end. This is one of the main reasons of today's depression.

  • The phrase "I still go to Big Box Mart. Yes, I'm there most all the time." followed by the next scene is really *priceless* .

  • Thanks to this video, I'm no longer a customer at Walmart.

  • Big box mart = walmart

  • @sgtwok AND Target, AND Meijer, AND a few others....

  • @turfguy87 I am glad you say this. You are very smart my friend.

  • I wonder if I would get in trouble if I walked around wal mart with this song playing.

  • Very sad but this is true

  • sad but true...

  • This is a very important video.

  • Fuck Walmart

  • I think I saw Micheal Jackson at the end. If so, LOL

  • @MW2PWNGE1 I saw 2 actually.

  • TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE everything that guy said in that video is true!

  • I dont like wal-mart just from walking through there. all the weirdos shop there.

  • As true as it was then, it's even more true today.

  • Perhaps you're confusing "intervention" with "policing."

Free Market advocates agree that the players within an economy must be POLICED to prevent any individual from gaining advantage through fraud or unfair practices. But this is not the same as INTERVENTION in the actual economy.

When you understand HOW the economy works, it becomes clear why intervention is destructive.

The most irreplaceable thing a free market provides is PRICE SIGNALS. Intervention UNAVOIDABLY destroys price signals.

  • This vid is popular on Vietnam

  • In my opinion Amazon is worse than Wal-Mart ever thought of being. Right now, the same demographic that hates Wal-Mart is in love with Amazon, but watch out. Amazon is fast killing many businesses that have thrived for decades.

  • @bchristian85

Let me share some economics with you...

COMPETITION is what drives prices down, which raises the standard of living for all people by stretching their buying power (it's like getting a raise).

FAILURE of uncompetitive businesses is actually a sign that a market is HEALTHY. It is a necessary part of what makes markets work. This is how inefficient businesses get replaced by more efficient ones, creating innovation and raising the standard of living for all.

  • In much of rural America Wal-Mart IS a monopoly. The small town I'm from just finally got a Target a few years ago. Before that, if Wal-Mart didn't have it, you had to drive hours to get it or order it online.

  • @bchristian85

You're using the word "monopoly" wrong. Wal-Mart is not a monopoly. And you've proven it with your own statement!

You said your town had a Wal-Mart...THEN it got a target. If Wal-Mart was a monopoly it would have prevented Target from moving in. Isn't this obvious?

You're buying into MARXISM, which has failed everywhere it was tried.

FAILURE is an essential part of a healthy market. Uncompetitive businesses are driven out as more competitive ones take their place.

  • Continued. It is a good example of a monopoly.

  • A monopoly begins by having lower prices than all of its competitors. Then, the competition goes out of business. The monopolizing company slowly raises prices. Since their is no other place to get those products, the people have to buy from the same place. The prices will get as high as the management wants, and no one can stop it because the products sold there are sold only there, nowhere else. For a good example of this, read Pendragon Book 7: The Quillian Games. It is a fantasy book, but i

  • @Nimitz68503

    You're logic is flawed.

Let's say a company becomes a "monopoly" as you describe. What prevents some NEW START-UP company from using the same innovations that allowed the "monopolizing" company to make prices so low?

In a truly free market (no cronyism) MONOPOLIES CANNOT EXIST. Because they cannot prevent START-UPS without the use of coercion (government cronyism).

This is why you are misusing the word "monopoly." Wal-Mart (or Amazon) do not fit the definition.

  • Stop arguing you idiots.

  • This video is funny, but it perpetuates a false understanding of economics.

"Low prices" do not cause unemployment. The problem is that the prices of PRODUCTS are being set by free market competition, but the prices of LABOR are being inflated by non-market intervention (unions and over-regulation).

VALUE CANNOT BE ARTIFICIALLY IMPOSED. It's like trying to dig a hole in water.

The way for unskilled workers to increase income is by DEVELOPING MARKETABLE SKILLS. Jacking employers does not work.

  • @UncleIrv I'm sorry, it sounds like what you're saying is interesting, but can you take it down a level? I don't understand.

  • @MrParamedics

Man, I'd like to help you out, but ECONOMICS is a complex subject. However, it is not beyond the understanding of the average person.

It's kind of hard, though, for me to explain these things in a 500 character comment. But if you want to learn, watch as many THOMAS SOWELL and MILTON FRIEDMAN videos as you can. Those guys are brilliant economists who have a gift for explaining things in terms lay people can understand.

Feel free to private message me as well.

  • @UncleIrv Thank you for posting, I was going to go into a diatribe about how this is not substantiated in actual modern economics, but you've taken care of that. Man so glad to see not everyone out there is a lemming. "Blarg, Hate Wal-Mart", "Blarg, Free Market Bad", "Blarg, Competition Hurt"

  • @Cleopas82 Wal-Mart does hurt free market competition because it sells everything it has cheaper than any other major store. It has on several occasions destroyed many businesses because the suppliers would refuse to under pay or overwork employees and they quickly went out of business by being all outsourced. I love the free market its why i live in America but Wal-Mart has become a legal monopoly and has become the most dominant market force in the world which creates a lot of problems.

  • @SwankierMrMan

No offense, but you do not understand economics or the terms you use.

The WHOLE POINT of "competition" is to drive prices down. Basically, you're claiming that REALLY GOOD competition kills competition. That is illogical.

If you truly love the "free market," you should understand that FAILURE is an integral part of it. If uncompetitive businesses are not allowed to fail, the market is, by definition, not free. That is the PURPOSE of competition.

  • @UncleIrv because i don't agree with you i don't understand economics...umm all right.

But Wal-Mart is a monopoly and it is no longer a competition with them because they can beat out any competitor and if they can snuff out competitors it is no longer a competition now is it. America has cut down many monopolies and slammed the door on many businesses who were becoming a monopoly.

  • @SwankierMrMan

You are wrong. And it is totally presumptuous on your part to accuse me of falsely citing economics "just because I don't agree with you."

It doesn't matter a lick whether I agree with you or not. ECONOMICS does not agree with you. And I am citing economics.

The idea that "monopolies" drive DOWN prices is a misapplication of the classic definition of monopoly. It is exactly the OPPOSITE of how economists use the term, and it is completely illogical.

    Continued...

  • @SwankierMrMan So you want government to take a protectionist stance? Isn't that cronyism? If Wal-Mart provides something that people will buy, without the assistance of big brother and they just happen to be the biggest at it, how is that not free market capitalism?

  • @UncleIrv The main problem with Wal-Mart is that they have gotten big enough to be considered a monopoly legally and its not unions or over-regulation because Wal-Mart comes in and provides very low prices across the board on anything you want and can force any supplier they have to make thier prices lower or risk being outsourced. And Wal-Mart destroys local businesses by having the lowest prices and replaces them with minimum wage jobs

  • @SwankierMrMan

    Sorry, but that's not logical.

The whole point of a monopoly is to drive prices UPWARD. Wall-mart drives prices DOWN. It is not a monopoly. It's simply BETTER at delivering low prices than anyone else--which raises everyone's standard of living by increasing their buying power.

Wall-mart CANNOT drive out businesses who are not in the same "niche." By specializing in quality rather than low price, others can compete and thrive.

    Protectionism NEVER saves jobs.

  • @UncleIrv Monopolies always build by driving prices down to snuff out competitors they always have done this like a while ago when Microsoft was planning on releasing free software with computers, but the government said they couldn't because if they did Microsoft could easily outsell competitors and then drive prices up everywhere if they wanted. And monopolies are about control not money if someone controls almost everything in thier respeted market they are a monopoly.

  • @SwankierMrMan

Just because a company DOMINATES a particular market does not make it a monopoly, as long as the company has excelled though fair market competition.

Either you LIKE competition or you DON'T. It is illogical to say you like it "up to some point." Who establishes that point?

I live right across the street from a Wal-Mart. EVERY DAY I drive past it to go to other stores that are farther away. Obviously, Wal-Mart is not a monopoly. It does not fit the definition.

  • @UncleIrv the government because a completley free market system will collapse upon itself just like a complete communist or socialist system. They simply cannot exist or they will die and be replaced. And near me there is only 1 locally owned grocery store and they are struggling. It isn't illogical to say either I like the free market up to a point because are ecomony is capitalist and socialist already and if you can't see that you are blind to the world. Compromise is needed to survive.

  • @SwankierMrMan

A completely free market will collapse upon itself? That's ridiculous. There isn't an economist anywhere who will back that up, nor can you find a single example in history.

Mixing free markets with Socialism? That's what got us into this mess! It's called CRONYISM. And when it's taken to it's extreme, it's known as CORPORATISM--the economic system of fascism

The only way that idea can seem logical is if you do not have the slightest idea HOW MARKETS WORK.

  • @UncleIrv If we lived in a true free market system the government would be a company and there would be no voting of any kind because it would be a company not a system set up by the people. Yes because there hasn't been anyone stupid enough to turn thier government into a business and our government has been involved with businesses since the start which are related to socialism. And again because you don't agree with me doesn't mean im illogical.

  • @SwankierMrMan

Dammit, don't make me repeat this again: My critique of your ideas has nothing to do with the mere fact that you "disagree with me." This should be clear, since I am stating SPECIFIC REASONS why you are wrong. DEAL WITH THE FACTS. This is not a personal attack against you.

Again, your claim is ridiculous. Free market economists have NEVER advocated "turning the government into a business." A central point of FM Economics is to keep the government OUT of business.

  • @UncleIrv we have always had government intervention in companies, these interventions go against capitalism. even the recent bailouts go against capitalism. And any logical economist will agree that there has never been or will be a "pure" economic system that doesn't intertwine with other forms of governments and economies. You sir are illogical and don't understand the core of how our country works.

  • @SwankierMrMan

Yes, we have always had some government intervention into business. And yes, the bailouts are an example. THAT'S THE POINT!

That type of intervention has always been destructive. Indeed, the latest crash was CAUSED by intervention and cronyism. And the Great Depression was made more long and severe by intervention.

Again, you don't make sense: Either intervention is harmful or it is not. IT CAN'T BE BOTH! Prove to me you are logical by grasping that simple fact.

  • @UncleIrv There are different types of intervention in the economy some is helpful and some is hurtful there is an entire spectrum of government involvement in the economy and our recent dip hasn't been cause by involvement, but i do agree the bailouts were ridiculous because the government was just throwing more money into failing companies which continued to fail afterwards. But after the great depression many bank regulations were put in which many people agree greatly helped the banks.

  • I don't care how "popular" your ideas are. They are MYTHS. They reflect total ignorance of economics.

For you information, Microsoft WON that lawsuit. Are you unable to see that you're prophesy of doom did not take place? Honestly...I can't believe you cite examples that DISPROVE your mythology.

What you call a "monopoly" is actually just an EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE business. These are what keep prices low, benefiting all consumers.

You do not understand markets at all.

  • @UncleIrv I hear you. The solution to tis kind of trouble is decent education, and a social safety net for the people who get hurt--as some inevitably will.

  • @VulcanFleet

    Yes, that sounds reasonable.

  • This is only a problem because we buy so much crap we really don't need lol.

  • You know what? I'm calling it. This was the scariest fucking video on the internet. Goddamn it, I agree with capitalism though, but this shit is like a commercialist dystopia ran by one corp... Now I sound like a hippie, but you get what I mean.

  • And people wonder why we have economy problems... and China can support 1.5 Billion people

  • @Tyrant60 For some unpleasant values of "support".

  • We need to recognize this issue.

  • It's our fault if minimum wage wasn't so high we would still have jobs

  • @brianmcartney22 Not really, still shitty work that no one wants to do.

  • To all you people out there, maybe a little social security and responsilibity wouldn't be so bad in the USA. Or just move to sweden and vote red :3

  • I hate to say it,but it's true. I am a victim of it, my job went bye bye a year ago to make the fat cats richer. It's not just Walmart, it's all these big corporations. I gave them 4 years of faithful service making Marriott tons of cash, I was the highest revenue producer at the call center. Then in the blink of a eye, it's, screw you guys, they shoved the jobs overseas where they can pay allot less. Now I work at a local dive hotel since that is one of the few jobs left in town.

  • @snake2006

Oh and for allot less than I was making. So much less that I had to move back in with my parents for a little while to get back on my feet, after 15 years being on my own. You can imagine how humiliating it is,since the rent in my city is outragous.

  • thats a Target shopping cart lol

  • Big box mart fucks Foreign and Domestic workers

  • this just.... is so true, words of wisdom... whomever made this is wise indeed.

  • can anyone tell me what the last line of the song is? I could never figure it out. Your every day low price are and free?

  • @rapeasaurus1 Your everyday low prices have a price they aren't free.

  • @BlitzChaosPrime thank you

  • FUCK all "big box" marts. they're absolutely ruining our economy.

  • LETS GO,ITS BLACK FRIDAY!!! XD

  • screw big box mart. shop locally owned this black Friday.. or do like me. stay home!!

  • Wow this video made me laugh and throw up in my mouth at the same time because of how damn true it is.

  • I'm french and I studied it in english class ! ^^

  • @63Trajan lol jib jab...the perfect representation on America

  • 126 Chinese factory workers and Walmart bosses disliked this

  • We just got a Wal-Mart in our local shopping center, and it's turned the parking lot into a zoo. I hope and pray I never have any cause to go into that commercial monstrosity.

  • this is so weird my name is Mart :s but love the song :)

  • what song is this

  • Comment removed

  • @crazyfooInc

    *facepalm*

    It's Oh Susanna

  • I remember singing this a LONG time ago.

  • lol i love this video

  • Used to love shopping at Wal-Mart. Then I worked there. Haven't set foot in one for over a year and plan to keep it that way.

  • I sing this every time i walk into Walmart. Every time. For almost the last 4 years.

  • 1:29 Volkswagen Thing

  • this is great. so true.

  • Hmm. Took me a few views to spot that "right turn only" sign in the background at 1:30. Nice little touch xD

  • about walmart?

  • The irony is if the south did rise again there'd be no boxmart.

  • Great video. Should have ended, "paper or gold?" Know this. Chinese want gold. You should want some too. Your paper debt dollars are worthless to them. Think about that....

  • it is true, it is sad, but if you study economics, you know that the costs to our workers is outweighed by the benefits to all our consumers in the form of lower prices.

consumers vs producers? should the government impose tariffs to protect our industries? ...but that hurts our consumers by raising prices. hmmmmm...

  • LOL!

Guess who shopped at the BIGGEST big box mart.

Martin Luther King monument -- MADE IN CHINA!

  • Word to the wise: When you find a store that sells cheap crap, move along.

  • Wow...That was so incredibly true...and sad.

  • hate the way he says "bejing"

  • walmart is destroying america? We knew that for years but never cared.

  • factory job? lol

  • Now remember big box mart put Lakewood out of business in 2009.

  • 1:05 must have been before those hoarder shows became popular.

  • US President Barack Hussein Obama II, who was elected by desperate and hopeless people with his pledges associated with "Change We Can Believe In" proving he is a excellent Con Artist and Fraud like the three prior presidents, George Walker Bush, Bill Clinton, and George Herbert Walker Bush who all defended the atrocities by many selfish people who became richer.

  • @azzaz691, That's exactly why you need to stay in school! There's no guarantee you'll get a good job, but you can GREATLY improve your chances by studying hard and by respecting your parents and teachers. My dad always told me, "Keep your eyes open, your nose clean, and your mouth shut." I've followed those principles my whole life and I've always held a rewarding and good-paying job. Stay on track, azzaz691, and you won't have to end up like the guy in the video. Best wishes!

  • @dosguy fu you turd sellout people with your selfish mindset caused this

  • @dosguy ass kissing your way to the top of the slave pyramid

  • @dosguy Bullshit. College graduates are even worse off now than high school dropouts 40 years ago.

  • my god... he looks just like my neighbor.

  • Target, Ross, Sears, Costco, and almost 100 percent of all US business operate efficient as Walmart. Americans now fear openly speaking about supporting unions. President Obama did not keep his pledge of walking with the unions from promises made with "Change We Can Believe In" I hope JibJab does a spoof on President Obama.

  • @lamourlupus They did a spoof on Obama. They just suck his cock the entire video.

  • @lamourlupus Wow, what are you high on? I need to get me some of it.

  • I challenge Rob Walton of Walmart and their supporters to discredit their critics.

  • I'm proud to say I haven't gone to walmart for over 5 years!

  • You're blaming the big box stores and China.

The people you REALLY ought to blame for our decline in manufacturing are GOVERNMENT (our own) and UNIONS.

Regulations, taxes, mandates, EPA, OSHA, EEOC, minimum wage, affirmative action, and just plain meddling.

And the unions--strikes, threats, and demands for government to SCREW business.

So... American companies have fled to... guess where... overseas, including CHINA.

  • @ronpaulvoter nope

  • I admit this is very true, but it's also funny.

  • Walmarts' lawyers would like a word...

  • @7MukuroRealm Walmart's lawers can fuck themselves.

  • Outsourcing

made the hard-working old pepole with long experience loose their jobs to someone they'll never even will meet.

  • "oooh yes, its funny cause it's true ahhhha!" "yep...that's the joke." "Ahhhoo!"

  • AMERICA IS BUYING IT OWN DECLINE ITS 40% OFF

  • For such a happy tune, this is actually quite depressing.

  • I think this can help, please watch it! I believe this can help you incase this happens!

    /watch?v=gStH5oFDQDw

  • OH BIG BOX MART WHAT HAVE U DONE TO ME? I USED TO BE YOUR CUSTOMER NOW I'M YOUR EMPLOYIE!

  • *cough* WALMART*cough*

  • @nelord7000 if you look at the logo of the store though, they're also talking about Big Lots, Target, and K Mart, all of which are the same as Walmart, just not AS large. (instead of funneling 25 mill out of a local economy, they only funnel anywhere from 10-15 mill)

  • @nelord7000 captain obvious strikes again

  • Comment removed

  • its fucked up because its true. fuck you wal mart...I mean Big Box Mart -_-

  • I'm 58 years old and washing floors and cleaning toilet bowls, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

  • this is fucked up, i hate Walmart.

  • 122 ppl are our future chineese over lords

  • Some people here, had lost their job, and dont realize how.

  • Remember when JibJab was the coolest thing on the internet? What happened?

  • @ki1ng They sold out after Obama became president. Did you see the one video where they just suck his cock for 3 minutes?

  • @InMooseWeTrust Good point

  • I hate when people say they go to Walmart to save... when you buy more quality its lasts longer! And THEN you save.

  • @Etudianteindigne Exactly! some walmart crap ive gotten has fallen apart. then @ jcpenney, i got a similar shirt that i paid more for, but it lasted longer. i think walmart is trying to scam us with cheap quality crap. heck, all the american flags i saw at walmart were made in china. Good geez! its an AMERICAN flag so make it in AMERICA, its only common sense.

  • @scoobydoorocks10 Yes buying from your country (and if possible from your state/province/,,,) is so important for your economy AND for the environnement!

  • @scoobydoorocks10 I NEVER had that problem.

  • This is what you get when you combine Wallmart, Big Lots, and all of the miscellaneous big box retailers at once.

  • They use to be much better seriously

  • anyone saw the wife stuck to the window 1:03

  • @xxtaas777 How could anybody not see it? It's very obvious.

  • lmao at 1:56 the sign at the bottom left says crap lmao

  • this is funny my mom works at walmart

  • I've never been in a Walmart in my entire life.

  • @SatchmoSings You are so lucky...

  • 120 people shop at Walmart

  • I love this video! It's SOOOOO true!!!!!

  • @dosguy thats why its sad im 13 and im scared i wont get a good job

  • @azzaz691 You'll get a job involving lots and lots of tedious labor that you work your ass off for but get paid nothing, except a few meals if you're lucky. Sounds illegal? No, it's called an internship.

  • @InMooseWeTrust nooo ill start my own little shop and branch out.

  • @azzaz691 Good luck competing against the "Big Box Marts" of the world.

  • @azzaz691 Become an engineer or a nurse, get paid.

  • @joe579003 im a male maybe ill be a millatary wepon inventer like maybe a upgraded drone! it can fly longer and can carry more stinger missles oh AND it can have the abblity to take on a cloak like comilians do

  • @azzaz691 There is a word for that. It is called an ENGINEER.

  • I love how i buy buy all my crap at walmart when you go in for one thing and but a cart full

  • I love that he walks out without paying.

  • dont blame me for any of this. i vote democrat.

  • @jbond5150 Then I blame you for giving my money away.

  • @jbond5150 If anything, thats more reason why u deserve blame. Why do you think labor is cheaper in foreign countries like china?

  • @jbond5150 So do I, but democrats are also corporate politicians. They won't hesitate to support big-box stores, fast food, fossil fuels and everything else that's slowly killing the working people while the Walton family gets richer. The 2008 Democratic Convention was held at the Pepsi Center. Pepsi is anything but democratic.

  • wtf, is that Adam Savage on the left @ 1:09 ?

  • @Fashoniesta Holy shit! They need to prove that right on Mythbusters!

  • I hate walmart so much that it does not deserve to be capitalized. Treats workers like crap.

  • PAPER PLASTIC xD

  • 119 dont buy all of their crap at Big Box Mart

  • ha there is two jibjab signs on those credit cards stop it on 0.58 and you see there are two
