  • I used to watch Skip practice with his band on their deck in Alaska when I was 12 years old.

  • im pretty sure this tune is to some extent about lsd...

  • Ostensibly this was about the USS Pueblo, a spy ship captured by the N. Koreans for being in in their 50 mile boundary or whatever. Cmdr Bucher got thrown under the bus "by his friends" and the prez Good old LBJ did zip nadda to get them back. After 11 months of torture etc, they finally were released. And some idiot wanted to court marshal Bucher, who many years later died from an illness related to his injuries. Chaffee told them to shove it.

  • What a freakin great song

  • Amazing song. When I was growing up in the late 60's and early 70's I spent a lot of time at the roller rink. Now as I am old man, I still associate great music while skating....I hate getting old.

  • number theory ? Sir Issac you go first. Angi yes go ahead! IXOYSIGMA ittiologia

  • I hope Brat Boy Bieber never covers this timeless classic.

  • Down with North Korea!

  • Here is your Captain speaking. Next up in my queue is "Wild Winds" from Free Energy. That's where my mystery ship will take me.

  • Mmm yeah!

  • Mike Pinera plays the guitar solo at the end of the song.

The song was inspired by the number of keys on Pinera's Rhodes piano. Pinera said, "Okay, I need a first word." And what came into my head was 73. I liked the rhythm, and I went, "73 men sailed in, from the San Francisco Bay." ... The song sort of just wrote itself from there."[1]

Lol, when us old guys are gone you kids and potheads will have free reign to make up any stories you want, this one is a song, not your myth

  • There is no place to escape to. What is wrong with the world, has to be faced. The WAY is not through what is called 'government', it begins on a very personal level for all of us. Real friends helping each other in times of need will get 10 things accomplished for every one the gevernment trys and fails to accomplish.

  • THANK YOU FOR THAT TUNE

  • gets me into the protesting mood :-)

  • Well Done!!!!!

  • 73 number theory sea space!

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO FOR A CLASSIC TUNE!

    Thank you!

  • I remeber this one was played on the local San Diego classic rock station when I was there from 02 - 06. Just the sound of my Mustang on the PCH, with this one full blast; happy days!

  • UNBELIEVABLE!

  • I hate the refrain, but the beginning is totally awesome

  • Inna gadda Vita Honey

  • These "one-hit wonder" bands usually make me "wonder" what the rest of their stuff sounds like. Judging from their repetoire, it seems they were an average, uninspired "covers" band!

  • I don't know when the song was first recorded. It was released as a slightly shortened single in the spring of 1970. Bigmarty56 is right there is information connecting this song to the Pueblo incident. Although I did the video in relationship to the Philadelphia Experiment. Again thank you all for comments and for the thumbs up! .... Sean :)

  • This is as "classic" as classic gets. Good music, easy to listen, very "hooky", and well done. ... :>)

  • The crew of the Pueblo, had the North Koreans believing that the middle finger was a gesture of friendship, as a matter of fact they had pictures of the crew giving the middle finger to their captors. The crew said that things went really bad for them after the North Koreans learned the truth.

  • 73 men Zelda...

  • Excellent the pros should get off their asses and check out youtube!!!

  • wtf is this i was looking for the song and hopefully a vid that matched the lyrics its ok ty for posting you know i should post clips of the time bandit from deadliest catch fighting the storms and waves to this song

  • Great song.

  • There is a longer version of this song somewhere! The guitar solo at the end keeps going for awhile. It really cooks!!!

  • I haven't heard this in ages!!!!Wow does this bring back memories of big cars and candy stores in the Bx.Thanks for posting!!!!

  • I love this one too... ;^)

  • @4508bluesky, what is the song about?. Does it k=links to any events at the time?. I like the song too a lot.

  • @Wolfen443 @Wolfen443 it's about the North Korean attack and capture of the USS Pueblo (which still remains in North Korean hands to this day). The Koreans claimed it was a spy ship. Why the US didn't blast them on the face of the Earth for hijacking one of their warships is beyond me

  • @LittlePikachu They did not blow them off the face of the Earth because during this time North Korea was aligned with the USSR and it would have started World War III. The United States was not willing to commit either money nor resources into a confrontation that most certaintly would have led to a show down with the USSR.

  • @LittlePikachu Turns out this song isn't about the Pueblo "incident." Being a former MI type, I too bought into to the popular myth. A very dark period indeed.

  • @83rrsou 68 was a very difficult year bracketed by the Pueblo Incident (filthy N. Koreans, next on the dictator hit list) Most don't even know what Pete and his boys went through.. I thought the song had to do with early voyagers into San Fran harbor.. others say it relates to a ship SF Bay of the Scientologists in the late 60's

  • I've always liked this song but never knew when it was originally recorded. Could someone please tell me? It's been going through my head for about 2 weeks now, and I don't even know why! I haven't heard it in years!

  • I have no idea whether this is true, but supposedly this about The Pueblo incident. Just a cool song, in my view.

  • So great to hear this again! Thank you for posting

  • I loved it when I heard this song on Art Bells Coast to Coast.

  • Man the ending solo is heavy for it's time.

  • Groovy!!!!!!

  • Haha you don't need to be smokin to understand the awsome lyrics to this song, but I don't judge people who do *Thumbs up*

  • this song is timeless....what a great tune....the guitar player really starts to kick ass at the end of the tune! thanks...

  • this tune reminds me of the glory summer of my youth so much cannabis i didnt even kno what to do with it all
