  • I'm trying to work at this Greek restaurant. I'm hopeful since the owner remembers my name all the time since I've walked into the place. He handed me a menu today and asked me to look over the things on it to see if I am up for the heat of a Greek restaurant from all the recipes involved, not to include; its all scratch there.

Your videos have helped me better understand the food since you show a lot of the process in them. This is one of the dishes on the menu. Spacivas un dobry vyecher.

  • @phantomsyren I am so happy that I could help you, you will learn a lot at this restaurant and from watching my videos, you will learn so much about Mediterranean Food :)

  • sumac. i just love it in salads :)

  • About locating the tahini. you can find it at any store the sell Arabic or Turkish supplies

  • great video, thank you :)

  • Thank you. I just receive the falafel. I do not know what it was. I decide to be a vegetarian for health reason.***Nice.

  • want to try soon. where does one get SUMAC?

  • @touchedbyamiracle You can buy it on my site :)

  • how can i find the am? sesame souce?? i mean i leave in Puerto Rico :( ??

  • tahini sauce is made from ground sesame seeds and a little bit of vegetable oil, you can make it at home ;)

  • You look Mediterranean. Why would you show people how to make falafel from a box??!!! There is nothing better than fresh food with fresh ingredients. Ask any top chef and he will tell you the same.

  • I completely agree, this is the QUICK way to make falafel. I have 2 other falafel recipe videos from scratch, check them out on my site :)

  • Thanks for your reply. I tumbled on your recipe from scratch only afterwards and made your falafel last Sunday. They were DELICIOUS!! The only hurdle I came up against was sourcing out the fava beans. I live in London and went everywhere asking for fava and garbanzo beans. In the UK they are called broad beans and chickpeas. I wasn't aware of that and I already had 2 packets of chick peas staring at me at home. So thanks for a fabulous recipe and your clear step by step instructions.

  • if you can't find fava beans you can always just use all chick peas instead. I'm glad you liked it, HAPPY COOKING!

  • delicious!!!

    thank you so much! ;D

  • OMG you are the hottest girl in the world

  • I have a jar of tahini that is a little less than 1/4 full, but it's not really workable anymore. Can you add oil to refresh it or is it time to toss?

  • try adding some vegetable oil to it and stir it really well to loosen it up, then use it for hummus :)

  • Dede, how about showing us from scratch how to make falafel? Surely that produces the best tasting and most authentic falafel?

I don't believe anything 'good' comes out of boxes today.

    Thanks, Nour.

  • HI Nour, this was the "easy" version, I have 2 other falafel recipe videos from scratch, check those out for how to make fresh falafel, HAPPY COOKING!

  • Hi Dede,

Great recipe. Per the amount of ingredients you used, how many falafels (using the mold) does it make?

    Thanks.

  • check out the written recipe on my site :)

  • Falafal surely aint healthy on the streets of masr lol, the black oil they fry it in really put me off falafal for life, but after watching your video i think i might give it another go!

  • Dede, that looks perfect! I like your website a lot, you've got so many great recipes there!

  • Dede, that looks perfect! I like you website a lot, so many great recipes!

  • yummy

  • dede what country is your maily originally from?

  • Lebanon :)

  • So let me get this straight...

If I don't like onions...I don't HAVE to add them?

    That's brilliant!

  • Hi DeDe, I've made Falafel from half dozen boxes from the local middle eastern market and the problem I have is that even though I follow the instructions to a T, but they never seem to come out like they do in the restaurants. You know crunchy and fluffy, not so dense. The color seems to come out darker not so green on the inside like the restaurants'. Someone mentioned to add Cream of Tartar to make it fluffier, but that didn't work. Any advice? Thanks

  • THe best falafel are from scratch, check out my homemade falafel video, there you can make them fresh, you can get the written recipe on my site too, good luck :)

  • Excellent! I looked in your store for a Falafel mold but you didn't have one for sale! Can you recommend one?

  • Thanks DeDe!

Looks perfect! I haven't heard of those spices but now I'll have to hunt them down. I wonder if Whole Foods carries them?

    Jeanne

  • nice, thanks for posting :)

  • would you consider adding a yogurt to your tahini sauce??

  • yes, you can definitely add yogurt. THe fatteh sauce is made with tahini and yogurt and it tastes amazing as well, check out the fatteh video

  • Great channel!

  • Thanks for this :)

  • love it all try is u are pretty

  • shoekran ya helw

  • Looks delicious. I need to try this. Thanks for posting!

  • I find the mixed boxes from the store are not nearly as good as the home made ones, i also find that with hummus (but thats just me). The only issue i have is finding a recipe that is perfect!

  • check out my falafel recipe from scratch video :)

  • me and my ma bought a ready made mix she said they were lovely and very tasty

  • As a vegan, dating back 15 years, falafels are one of my fav "fast foods". When I buy the pre-made mixture, it works out great, but when I make my own, they just fall apart :( Any tips??

  • Did you check out my recipe from scratch? Usually falafel fall apart if the mixture is to moist, to solve this add a tablespoon or 2 of flour and a bit more bread crumbs :)

  • I will have to look through the vid, thanks.

    Great channel by the way!

    Cheers

  • i love falafel

  • thanks for this video god bless ya :P

  • thank you :)

  • I love falafel!

  • Its amazing

    best thing ever created

  • I buy a mixture at wholefoods too. It's good but not as nutritious as dried peas.

  • Nice presentation. I made falafel with that premix and it was good but it gave me gas. The best falafel I had was a small storefront near Washington Square Park in NYC. It was so good that I could become a vegan.

  • we dont have falafel flour here..

  • Thank you for all your recipes You make my life easier....I am just not familiar with all the " middle eastern" spices. Do you know if you can have a special video to teach us about the most common ones ? Thank you for all your help

  • that is a great idea and it already on my list of videos to make :)

  • Excellent video. I spent the better part of my youth in the Middle East and always remember going into town and getting shawarma's and falafel. Hopefully I can reproduce them to share with my family. Keep it up!!

  • is any body tell me where from i can get a tahini sauce please

  • you can get them at any of your local indian grocery store. or any middle eastern or international grocery store. i even saw tahini at our Martin's grocery store. good luck

  • You can find it in Safeway and Wholefoods

  • i absolutely adore falafel wraps but i can't get that 'falafel mix' stuff in pakistan *sniff sniff*

  • As do I!

Crush canned chick peas and drain them.

Then mix in a bit of your favorite spices with chopped onion, flour and garlic. Then deep fry. Top with yogurt or mustard, add lettuce, tomatoes, etc.

    And enjoy.

  • I can in america, maybe I can send you some....if you'd like?

  • yum ! i reckon it would be good with some yoghurt mixed in the tahini mix mmm

  • In some Middle-Eastern countries like Lebanon and Egypt, I believe they use fava beans. I prefer it. Is the recipe the same except you use fava beans? I would also like the recipe for kubbeh:A handmade delicacy consisting of a golden brown shell of racked wheat filled with minced beef, onions and pine nuts.

  • Correct, original falafel is made with fava and garbanzo beans. That video will be coming soon along with Kibbeh. Kibbeh is amazing and has many different ways it can be served, I will show them all :) Stay tuned!

  • Yeah in Egypt we make it with fava beans that are ground with about 29839832 tons of parsley and an egg white so it gets fluffy. They end up green on the inside. We also call them ta'miyya.

  • yeah, i've heard that from my Egyptian friends, my Falfel video made from scratch will be coming out next week :)

  • I could not find the video about how to make falafel from scratch. Is it up yet? Thanks!

  • It should be up by Monday :)

  • yep thats how we make them in palestine

  • thanks, it is great

  • I love lebanese food!

  • Dede, I got a falafel mold from Canada. It looks perfect.

  • ty for have the middle easten foods i am middle eastern and it home ibrings alot of memeries

  • I love hummus and falafel!

  • Believe it or not, SO DO I! *yum*

  • I love falafel!

  • you are libanaise

  • Yes I am :)

  • I tried my first falafel prepared by our neighbor for the first time. It is SO good! Very nice instructional.

Random: I love your eye makeup.

  • umm like looks very nice :P i will deffo try and make it.Thanks

  • Yes, they taste great, but I'm concerned about the cooked oil/deep frying part of it. Cooked oils are one of the worst things you can put into your body.

  • You can definitely try baking them, they won't turn out the same shape as when you fry them but they will still taste good, use olive oil for the pan and to sprinkle on them.

  • Thanks for posting this. I LOVE falafel & now I want to try making my own. :)

  • do you have a husband? :-D

  • Yes I do, but thank you for asking :)

  • thanks for showing us all a vegetarian recipe. I am a vegetarian who strongly fights against animal cruelty and I am happy I learned this recipe from you.

  • hehe, no doubt may Allah be with you both, and thanks for the recipe miss!

  • P.S. it was SO delicious. 5/5 and i definitely subscribed. my husband thanks you, too...lol! ;)

  • I will show you later how to make them from scratch they are just as good if not better. Thank you for the comment.

  • I'm attempting the falafel right now, following along - can't wait to taste it!

Re-watching parts is making me hungry...

I'll let you know how it turns out! ;)

  • Omg Your Great.... KEep GOing WIth The recipes... Thanksss

  • Thanx So Much Your Really Good... Keep Up with The Recipes!!

  • yum yum! Thanks Dede!

  • Thanks dedemed. I am on a very restricted diet and hummus, falafel and tabouli are totally ok for me to eat provided I don't use much salt. The lemon juice and herbs I've found provide lots of flavor by themselves.

  • a good mama u r thanx

  • i loved it... subscribing

  • i loved it... subscribing

  • I'm hungry :(

  • why do you use falafel mix show people how to make the real falafel

  • the reason i did it this way is to show how to make it fast and if you don't have time. Falafel can be complicated and I want to show people it doesn't have to be. I will be posting my falafel video in 2 weeks...stay tuned :)

  • You are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for doing this I am making this for the first time and did not know how to make the tahini sauce. GOD Bless.

  • Dede,

I truly enjoy all your videos. Thank you so much. Cannot wait for you to have your own show someday:-)

PS: Do you have a recipe for shawarma. Would love for you to post it if possible.

    Thanks again...

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • falafels are popular overhere^^ thx

  • i don't think it's accurate to call falafels new haven't they been around thousands of years

  • Yes they have been around a long time but the dish is very new to many Westerners. Many of the big cities have had falafel shops for a long time but now they are growing in small towns too because of the new global economy, we are all learning more about different cultures.

  • falafels are old.....they are great!

  • im not vegetarian or vegan, but i do like falafel, i have a falafel sandwich sometimes @ my restaurant called Yiro's Gyros. its greek/mediterranean restaurant w/ all halal food. very good.

  • im hungery now .....

  • Deedee, i don't live in united states, i have no disponible that products so i have to learn the hard way to make falafel :(

  • Astrocita, I promise I am in the process of making it from scratch, Stay tuned I will make it soon.

  • dedemed, i did not kno wyou can also bake it. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

  • Dede,

I was wondering if you know of a preferred recipe for making falafel from scratch? What might be some "secret" ingredients I could use to make falafel that is really authentic? Thanks!

  • i'm going to be making it this weekend, due to the over whelming comments of people wanting it made fresh. I tried to make it from the box to make it easier on people but i promise i will make it from scratch and post the video soon :)

  • Thank you!! :)

  • Absolutely a well done video by an intelligent, beautiful woman.

Thank you for posting this video.

  • im 5 seconds into your video and just wanted to say damn your sexy....ok continue

  • Nice! I'd rather say Lebanese cuisine :-)

  • Hey Dede i was curious about if you bake them how long and what temp. would you recommend?

  • 350 for 20-35 minutes or until crispy

  • Dede, I'm an Irish boy from New York but I really appreciate your demos. I'm a big lover of middle eastern food (and I'm always trying to get the recipes out of my stubborn local restaurant owners!). I would love to see more; why did you stop making videos?

    -Matt

PS. Also an attorney! Cooking is a great past-time isn't it?

  • That's exactly it, i'm so busy that i never have time to just sit and tape video's, but i have about 5 recipe requests that i do have to fulfill and will be taping video's soon i hope, my goal is to have video's by the end of the year. thank you for the comment :)

  • i have to give u my falafel receipe. It is very interesting on how I make it. Also you can tell me what you think about it.

  • yes, send it to me, let's compare recipes :)

  • hello, thank you for your recipes! I have not tried them yet but I will soon. I live in LA also. Have you ever eaten at Sahara Falafel in Anaheim? It is the best falafel that I have ever had.

  • she must be a cook bc she just made a quinelle

  • Now that is what you call falafel. It tastes really great. Dede your a wonder you really are.

  • I just wanted to write that there is another way to make falafel with the actual chick peas and fava beans but because we are all always in a rush and people don't have time to cook anymore, so i decided to make it out of a box so at least people can enjoy eating falafel at home and it's quick and easy.

  • I followed your instructions, everything came out good ecept the falafel balls, they were very dry, didn't have taste to them.i added though 1 cup of water to 1 cup of falafel mix since it looked really dry with 1/2 cup of water like your instruction.

  • maybe you used a different mix. Try the mixes that are made in Lebanon. You can always add 1/2 tsp of some cayenne pepper, ground coriander, some chopped cilantro or parsley. Try that and see how it works. Serve it with the tahini sauce and vegetables :)

  • As i said evrything came out good except the Falafel balls.I used Ziad brand, bought from a middl eastern store.I will try again with less water. How moist the falafel balls should be?

  • it should be as thick as a paste or as thick as hummus, not watery at all. After you mix it let it stand for about an hour before you fry it. Don't be afraid to add more seasoning :)

  • This is awesome! I made this falafel for my Lebanese husband and he liked it. Thanks for posting this video, Dede. I hope you could upload more videos of Lebanese cuisine

  • well thanks in advance Dede

but if it wont be in one of the videos it will be ok

I'll definitely enjoy them either ways

  • dedemed rock!

    I love her show

  • thank you...you ROCK too :)

  • Dede can you please make an episode of how to make "Okra with lamb" lebanese style....I had it few times and I loved it and I wish to know how to make it

    thanks Dede

  • that sounds like a good request, i'll be posting 4 videos next month...that could be one of them :)

  • awesome thanks.. however it is not low in calories, it is very high in calories! I will give it a go though.

  • yum yum i love this

  • thanks!

  • whats the most important in life falafels lol

  • Falafel is one of the Mediterranean gastronomical miracles... When I used to work in a Lebanese restaurant in Paris, we would receive a mashed charm beans material that we had to mix with garlic, coriander and bicarbonate. Then deep fry with sesam seeds. Some people say that you can use chickpea material. Dedemed notre fée ! Mains enchanteuses ! Dites-nous tout ! How can you make falafel from raw materials ?

  • is that much oil necess.? or can i just put oil to cover the pan and that will give me the same result?

  • traditionally falafel is deep fried

  • where can i find a falafel mixture ? whats is the name of the manufacture??

thanx 4 the great effort :)

  • most grocery stores like Kroeger or Ralph's have an international isle, they should carry it, most brands have the same ingredients so it really doesn't matter what brand you use. If you don't find it at any of those places, try searching in your area for a middle eastern grocery store. Thanks for the comment, good luck :)

  • nice
