I love this song. I've listened to my copy of the album and cassette a hundred times. I am not aware of there being alternate takes or versions of the songs from Two the Hard Way, but I swear the phrasing of some of the words in this version seems a bit different to me -- not quite a syncopated as I remember.
@chermaster85 Sorry, but Cher did NOT write this song. It was written by Lauren Wood aka Ilene Rappaport aka Chunky of Chunky, Novi and Ernie. It was originally released on the self titled 'Chunky, Novi and Ernie' album in 1977 on Warner Bros. Records. Cher did do a fine version here tho.
God that was a GREAT F'KING ALBUM! I have all the songs and it was such a HIT! People loved it... it was billed as sexy-dico-jazzy-blues-pop... it covered it all. FABULUSHOUS!! It's called, Island. From the CD TWO THE HARD WAY.
I don't know much about Gregg, but I read in a recent mag article that he has a daughter named "Island". She was born in 1980, he was remarried in 1979 (I think that's what it said).
again, a cher great! i love this song, plus the fact CHER WROTE THIS SONG, abotut her and gregory's relationship. this is so emotional, i can feel her pain.
There are at LEAST 2 versions of songs named "Island". Someone told me CHER wrote the version on Allman & Woman under a pen-name. If you look on the 33 RPM LP record itslef, it says "aka Ilene Rappaport." There is another version on one of Gregg Allman's releases with the same title that HE did write, along with some others, from what I understand. I also heard THAT song was written or dedicated to his daughter Island, as well.
The song named "Island" that Gregg Allman released is on his "No Stranger To The Dark, The Best of Gregg Allman" which is a different song altogether. One would need to ask CHER, but in this case I believe Wikipedia is incorrect.
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the TRUE DIVA - but this to me is not her better singing - she's pushing so hard her vibrato is breaking up and chopping, and her color is all over the place. Too bad, because it's such a pretty song - check out her Nature Boy or Just This One Time to her just how great she can be when she's channeling well. Like I say people - don't kill me - I love me some Cher! She should redo this one, she's a better singer now and would break your heart with it.
one of Cher's finest songs. It's from the 1977 "Allman & Woman" album with Greg Allman. This is her only solo on the album. Cher even WROTE this song herself, using a different name.
Thanks! Cherstyler! I saw Greg and Cher at an Allman Bros. concert in 1975 The Oakland Coliseum. Won 2 backstage passes at Tower Records. I have a nice 8X10 b&w glossy photo of us in the dressing room.

I dunno...
I checked on Wikipedia, and this is whom they have listed as the writers of the song:
"Island" (Allman, Colton, Neel, Toler).
I highly doubt that the "Allman" that is credited would have been Cher. I am sure it's Greg's song, or that one of his brothers wrote it.
Cher still does a great job singing it, though.
