@wyttale like what do you use for bait and do you "fish" for them. ive tried the pole idea and used some meat and tried some catfish bait but all i got back was an empty hook or a fish, i havent been able to get a turtle on the line. i know that you should use a steel leader so they cant bite it off but aside from that i dont know what im doing.

I cant believe these people on hear pissing and moaning about you going out and catching your own table fare and saying it is cruel, like you said if people had any clue how the meat in the grocery stores were raised and processed they would be out doing it themselves as well...that turtle had a better life than any cow or pig or chicken that they buy in some store.
how sad,why would you kill a creature that can live for a very very long time, are you that much of a poor ass hillbilly you cant afford to go get your food at a grocery store?
Sigh...Would you prefer to starve than hunting your own food..Naturally, we are supposed to hunt animals to eat, but sadly many people kill them for sports or just to kill them.yOU MUST BE vegetarian, if you do eat meat, then you failed miserably.
For one thing, if you are a pro fisher you should work on your spelling because that just shows ignorance and as you are a self proclaimed pro fisher, ignorance is a weakness and really lets people know how unintelligent you really are. As far as cruelty is concerned, I would imagine you eat beef, pork and chicken? Look into how they are put down for your consumption some time.
Well they really don't fight like a fish would. If it's a snapper, it's sort of like pulling in a rock tied to the end of a pole. If it's a softshell (leatherback) they do fight a little bit more because they are a true aquatic turtle.
I don't get where the pain comes in?? Turtles eat some pretty nasty stuff out there. A hook in the mouth is just a minor discomfort and they do pass it if swallowed. There are several methods to take turtles, this is just one.
People say it has 7 different flavors. I just know if I had a choice of a big ol' steak or a plate of fresh fried snapper turtle. That steak is gonna get cold fast!!
@RYAND548 They are on the bottom. We watch for a bubble trail off the bottom and toss out a piece of fish with a small weight to get it down to the bottom. Toss the bait out in front of a moving turtle so he will run into the bait. If he is stirring up the bottom and not moving, drop it right on his head.
lol thats real mean? how about the cow you just killed to eat the beef. cows feel more pain then a turtle does they die in 1 hour with their thought cut im not an ainmal activist and shiit like that just sayin 2 you
Thats a really nice size turtle! i catch turtles out of the lake i live in, and they get really big in our lake. we catch them on trout lines, but im going to try a big cat fishing pole next time i go fishin for them.
thats extremely mean? what about the cow that died to feed you for dinner? or the chicken that died to feed you for lunch? it's not mean. it's life. some need to die for others to love. wyttale likes the taste of turtle, so he eats turtles.
Wow big ol mean things. I kept having a huge one take a big pike minnow once but hed drop it when he got to the boat but that was a rubberback not a snapper. Are they hooked or just hang on like that? That looks like fun...never eaten turtle before.
We use a chunk of fresh fish that had been caught earlier. We watch for a bubble stream coming off the bottom that indicates a turtle working the mud for dinner, drop the slightly weighted line in the direction of travel. when the bubbletrail stops at the bait he has probably found it!. Wait for a few minutes so the turtle can swallow the hook. When you think it's time, set the hook and real him in. If he's to small, cut the line and let him go. The hook will dissolve and pass.
Just reach down there and lip him.

If you know how to handle a turtle there really is little danger of being bitten.

That just seems cruel... fishing is for fish, not turtles. If you are going to kill it, kill it quickly so it doesn't feel much pain.
