  • ok... this thing is just damn crazy !! 0:44 - 0:54

  • Alex Hutchings: Who Steve Vai wishes he could be.

  • 0:56 ...Puedo morir en paz.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol, the title reminds me of the scene from The Simpson's Movie. xD LOL

  • HE DINT BRAKE ANY STRING?!?!

  • What guitar is this?

  • @PenguinarityProd It's a "Music Man".. best fucking guitars ever made!... For Fusion/progressive music, that is.

  • @JSpears90 I know i wanted to know the model :P

  • @PenguinarityProd oh, well, in that case... I'm pretty sure it's an "Axis Supersport".

  • i love^^

  • Guys.... 0:22 is... i cant tell..

  • this is... the best thing i ever heard in my f*cking life

  • Alex Hutchings rocks balls man.

  • Too much legato on a soft string is kinda gay, but this guy is the only exemption to the rule, his playing is sooooooooo tasty!!!

  • @William102582 since when? musicians should be always comfortable when playing.

  • sweeps at 0:49 made me shit my pants!!!

  • FUCK you satriani, fuck you vai and all you similar guys. THIS GUY IS YOUR MASTER. HAAAAHAHAHAHAAAA (Evil laughter)

  • this guy is god.

  • amazing

  • intense af.

  • Muy bueno, suena mucho a Vai.

  • It's like Jack Black and Jesus put together.

  • pause at 0:21. gahhh i'm so jealous he's so tasty..

  • this really reminds me of rob marcello.

    Another underatted guitarist :(

  • That beginning build up is incredible.

  • 0:58 its like steve vai's style!

  • @Althe05 the actual whammy bar technique is called fluttering and lots of people other than steve vai use it

  • @MikeBassil That doesn't mean it isn't LIKE Vai's style I think he was just noticing that it's something that Vai does a lot and Alex doesn't do as often.

  • TIM HALCOMB IS BETTER THAN NODDY HERE :-)

  • Why does this dude nod his head so much. He looks a right dick.

  • @metalIica678910 Too fucking right!

  • maybe the 4 dislikes meant they weren't happy when it ended

  • @jlbradders No they were there because this sucks and Wobblehead here is fucking boring.

  • This is like Allen Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Van Halen all mixed into one player.

  • Wow!!!

  • genious

  • Even after 2 years, 0:45 is still stupid hard to comprehend

  • buenismoooo el sonido de la fender que mas pues... arrechisimo y bueno el tipop tambien en improvisacion tiene un feeling arrecho

  • @joseiberan Naguara Venezolano!!v¡ Compatriota XD!

  • Why does everybody want to sound like Vai nowadays.try coming up with something totally original.

  • @sydtull Vai's good but i'd rather sound like Alex :P

  • @sydtull Totally, thats (part of) what has made Vai so successfull, the fact that he wanted to be something different ^^ .

  • @bluesjamtracks does alex make these backing tracks or is that something that you guys do and he just improvises over?

  • @GhettoDope7lc

Alex said he makes them when i saw him at Dawsons

  • Oh Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, babeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

    :-)

  • @fred132435 wow really? thats pretty interesting, ive always wondered why the guitar is tuned in fourths, and also why the their is a 3rd between the G and B string

  • @z0mgzt0m Yeah, conventionally the 3rd between the G and B makes almost no sense. I use standard tuning but have often thought of how easy it would make things to tune in fourths. You'd lose some of the simple open chords people love so much but in return you'd get scale shapes with no position changes and chords that had the same shape no matter what string you played them on, seems like a great trade to me.

  • @xelad1 Yeah does seem pretty easy, it still baffles me why guitar is conventionally tuned in fourths, it doesnt seem to be justified

  • @z0mgzt0m i believe it's made that way to simplify chords, because if you tune it in fourths some really important chords will be impossible to do without the first string ringing annoyingly

  • @punish666 Oh i see, because some guy asked me the other day "why is guitar tuned EADGBE?"

And i didnt actually know why, maybe its tuned in fourths to make everything even to get too, if that makes sense, which i dont know if it will XD

  • @z0mgzt0m Chords. Bar ones :) . 'n stuff. Would love to try out all 4ths tunings someday though ^^

  • @punish666

everything is symetrical and it's much easier to find intervals as it's the same for which ever string you're on whereas in normal tuning the G and B string mess it up. Much more logical

  • @xelad1 yeah, but it would be impossible to play some chords.

also sweeps would give everyone a real hard time.

and the pentatonic visual box method would be no longer usable.

I think it's better the way it is.

  • ¡Qué meñique!

  • Omg I almost came at 0:45 - 0:50, those sweeps were amazing!

  • Superb, flawless, amazing. Too bad it's not longer.

  • *Blown away*

  • The whole video kicked ass, but 0.46-0.51 kicked my ass.

    That guy is wicked.

  • That face at 0:21 that's the priceless face of power!

  • wtf!!!...amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • i ask myself why you guys only mention the fast parts to be incredible, fantastic....There is a lot more interesting stuff in it than just his sweeping etc.

  • The phrase between a Rock and a hard place is so wrong here. Alex certainly took it to both extremes.

  • 0:46 - 0:54 Unbelievable..

  • This video has given me a 'hard place'.

  • @StevieVaibanez you mean a stiff!? XD peace mate!!

  • @StevieVaibanez You should be in a deep fucking place faggot.

  • @StevieVaibanez IS VERY STEVI VAI...

  • Classical hand ?

  • F-u-c-k o-f-f!... this guy is amazing!

  • A copy of Frank Gambale nothing new

  • @proliant666 i see the gambale influences, but a copy? no, alex has an original, laid-back style (though he can be aggressive, hence 0:46).. not a copy

  • this guy an guthrie have insanely amazing tone......GODS

  • HOLY FUCK INCREDIBLE !!!@!@@31

  • This guy should be on G3

  • 0:46 HOW DOES HE DO THAT!!

  • @GGTopGuitarist I also shit in my pants at this particular moment

  • @GGTopGuitarist That's sweep-picking (aka speed picking), the way sweep-picking is meant to be done. Sadly a lot of neo-classical shredders made sweep-picking into nothing but a cheap trick for fast repetitive arpeggio runs, much like tapping.

This is the way sweep-picking is also used by Frank Gambale, the main proponent of the technique in the early 80s. He has published some books and instructional videos on it aswell.

  • I think he is an amazing player no matter who he sounds like at times. Everyone copies from time to time for more ides and sounds

  • Amazing. Definitely some Vai influence there.

  • those arent vinnie licks bud

  • beautiful tone

  • He likes Steve Vai...just a little..

  • @danlovesnan You mean satriani -_- ... and it is only in that song

  • @fenixx213

he is the most versatile guitarrist I've ever seen...maybe he lacks in personality ...I maen, You can recognise Bill Frisel, Gilmuor, Van Hallen, Steve Vai after 2 seconds...this guy can play everything VERY well, but maybe is more a teacher and a great professional than a musician, I don't know, but anyway, I do respect people that studied so much.

  • @danlovesnan the love for music is NOT limited by character my friend...music is a form of expression...and let me inform you..all musicians copy form each other some are just more famous then the other....he IS a musician with his own feel and expression

  • @arcainjust

That's true...but there are people with a creative attitude and with a strong personality that distinguish themselves from the others otherwise there would be a lot of bands like "radiohead" around or guitarrists like "Bill frisell"...there are some that are not famous, but not hundreds...and THIS guy here although extremely good (infact I do admire him) is not one of them....there's nothing wrong about that; it's just what it is.

  • The ultimate player with the ultimate feel to his playing!

  • thats cuz he works for amp demoing company

  • Some guys inspire you to practice more.......

Alex Hutchings makes me want to take up the cow bell.

    Simply amazing.

  • Why is this top player so never heard type ??? He is in guthries league ...

  • i completely agree! They should tour together!

  • his style is sooo adaptable, he goes from gambale sweeps into soulful vaish passages and then some delicious legato phrases

  • the lick at :35 is so great! what a hero

  • whenever you play lydian making good use of your floyd rose you immediately BECOME Steve Vai lol

  • haha basically

  • STEVE VAI

    sounds like it lol

  • ???!!!

maybe like vinnie more.. but.. vai? NO

  • @leandrolobo maybe like Alex Hutchings

  • @Fendershred50 Listen "meltdown" by vinnie moore.

Obyusly Alex is the best of the best. but the technique for alternate and some frases are from vinnie. Sorry my english, i'm Argentinian.

  • @Fendershred50

    0:34 to 0:46 is a vinnie`s lick

  • sick

  • I think Alex sounds better than Guthrie and has a deeper feeling, but I like Guthrie's incredible diverse technique over Alex's.

  • 54-end felt like Vai

    Not a criticism

  • ...yow..........frank gambale 47 to 50min

  • very true!! this guy can combine so many techniques... in a way I prefer him to Guthrie....

  • hmmm i think id pick guthrie over alex, but his video of him showing off the GR2O at NAMM was BADASS. playing banjo kazooie, the rusty bucket bay song. awesome... haha

  • He is better than Gothrie!

    More feelings!

    It sounds from the soul!!!!!

  • def. amazing!

  • Very fresh and creative!

  • Fabulous!!!

He reminds me the spirit and soul of Andy Timmons

  • Now that you mention it, this DOES sound quite a bit like Timmons -- the seamless phrasing and effortless blending of legato and alternate picking. But he's got his own style, and I really like it.

  • Shredding from hell!

  • Totally awesome!!

  • gooose bumps...

  • yano when ur bumhole clenches..............

  • amazing ....!!!!!!!!

  • I knew Alex Hutchings only 3 days ago. Sometimes we praise best known guitar players that are often incomplete. Alex is an example of technique, melody, control and fantasy. For me, a complete musician.

  • @ndrea232 Alex is an example of a boring wobblyheaded yawn! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH THE EMOTION ...the feel....I must shut my eyes and pull a stupid face and nod my head to make this passionate lick! No ....it's boring.

  • @khaillulIah so i'm interested to hear who you like if you think this is boring. I love this stuff but if you've got any recommendations i'll go check em out..

  • @khaillulIah And let me guess......you're a much better guitarist/musician than Alex. Just like most YouTubers!!! If you cannot appreciate the musicianship, talent and passion, you should go somewhere else. Maybe to a Monster truck forum or something of that nature. Seems more your speed.

  • @ndrea232 couldn't agree more. Even Jazz/fusion not being my style and I can't help but say this guy is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite

  • @ndrea232 yea. he's one of the few guitarists out there who marries great technique with tasteful guitar phrasing. i never get tired listening to his stuff :P

  • Really tasty.... you can tell by the colour of his maple fretboard how much he plays the guitar... I love seeing a dirty fucked up maple fretboard, it's part of the guitar's and the guitarist's character and personality!

  • Amazing!

  • Insane!!!!

  • i think most would agree this is a stunning benchmark of mastery control......guthrie too...and stuart bull dave k etc....wow what fluid playing

  • i like alex hutchings its far compare to GG

  • Hey I know he's playing through the laney GH50L head, but I just wanted to know, does anyone know if hes using any tone shaping pedals? It sounds so good..

  • amazing liquid sound :-)

  • wow ..congrats Alex!!

  • Man, I love these videos :)

    Bugrahan

  • This is definitely sublime, avant garde level guitar playing. Alex is definitely a genius and a real master of the guitar fretboard.

  • John Mc damn, Al Di MeOhmy gosh, Carlos Santa, Alex in the wonderland ...

  • fucking fantastic playing that 1st bend was all i needed for rating this 5 stars

  • Just Awesome!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah i get what your sayin'.. Its just an opinion after all..

  • hey i dont agree with you but... MissSpunklesswanker?!?!

Holy shit that made me laugh so hard!!

  • theawankener=co+ck

  • Your Comment = Not+Very+Good

  • that guitar is awesome. where i can buy it? , , ,

  • If I'm not mistaken, it's an Ernie Ball Musicman Axis Super Sport.

  • I think you can order it online through music man's website...

Also, I'm pretty sure that you can find it at your local music store (if you get lucky).

  • 0:57 to 1:17 is pure bliss.

  • 0:13 - 0:18 YEAAAAAAAAH!!

  • You are absolutely pathetic dude. Go to a music conservatory before you start wasting people's time. This music = Feel+knowledge+technique!

  • Why are you guys discussing? Why don't you listen just to alex and his guitar playing such a beautiful shit

    your wastin time

  • 0.46-0.51 awesome

  • yes...

    theawakener7 on acceptiong defeat 101

  • This wankener7 dude is just so Anti-attitude. Trying to find something bad about this music, which no one else so far has claimed to have found. Poor guy...

  • "Playing by feel" can still be done with every little scale and technique you have brought up, you just want an excuse to render it useless by saying that thinking about it isn't feeling

would it ever occur to you that music can be thought out, and felt at the same time?

but ok, be oblivious to everything and play your "soulful" parts, and i'll write stuff using my knowledge AND soul. being clsoed minded about it is only wrosening your own capabilities

  • "DONT THINK FEEL"

omg if i had a dime for every self-righteous person who thought that just because an amazing musician wrote decent stuff without knowing exactly what he's doing, that the entire thing is pointless...

you know if everyone had your attitude, music would be a lot less interesting, everyone would sound like radio bands.

  • what you can and cant comprehend musically, eh?

well tell em the modes and scales involved in this video

and if you cant, then stfu.

and my playing isnt what is in question here, im not the one claiming to be better than anyone, and you arent either, but you said his playing is trite, so if anyone needs to be posting videos, its you, kid.

stab at my playing all you want, thats not what's in question here. apparently Alex playing is trite, but what is he playing? tell us, indulge us

  • i never said sole

you claim hutchings has no soul, and his playing is trite

but you could never begin to dissect what this man is doing, all you can do is try to demean it with your faggoty "opinons"

  • since when are you the soul judge here??

your inability to sense the soul in his music is your own fault, nto alexes

    once again

  • alex has more soul in his jazz than any of the petty crap you probably like

  • I'm sure Alex would love to apologize for not making the same radio rock tunes we've heard for years, but he's not a fucking tool.

"Elevator music" is just a way for musically inept retards to try to demean jazz music. Just because your taste lacks a sense of culture doesn't mean that it's any fault of Alex's only your own.

  • jack black ;]]

  • :45 omfg i died

  • 40 points...

  • Emotionless...

...sad the bouncer! Best joke ever!

Every cell of that guys body is emotion. You might wanna really open your ears ONCE.

From your comments you can tell a difference of at least 30 points in IQ between you and Santiago btw.

  • You're hilarious old man, don't ever change.

  • I find the fact that you responded seriously to my cardiac arrest comment hilarious.

And jesus christ, you bring up your amazing hardk0re stories of punching people like a 15 year old does when trying to compensate his lack of self esteem.... and you're forty fucking years old, nobody acts like that when being that old, seriously grandpop, just cut it out, you're just embarrasing yourself more and more.

  • Yeah, that's ok, too bad you're not a respected music critic in anyway so the chances people will care about your opinion at all is really low dude.

Also, you really gotta stop using the expression elevator music, you said it...3 times... your verbal intelligence is mind numbing, please stop.

lol, I just checked your profile, you're 44? .... heh... you may want to avoid getting too agitated on these youtube debates, we don't want you to have a massive cardiac arrest, lol.

  • How can you say this is emotionless, just look at his face!

  • I gotta say Frank Marino is pretty cool, and yeah, UFO was alright back in the day, but I think this is pretty awesome too.

I gotta say, to me, this is everything but emotionless but whatevs.

  • what you say is quite right, but youre still wrong about Alex Hutch an Guthrie. They are actually the greatest living guitarists

  • Nice gambale hybrid sweeps at :45!!!!!!!!

  • Fast or slow playing have nothing to do with soul. It's a matter of how a person expresses his emotions. There are tons of beautiful but very fast classical music compositions ("Rimsky Korsakov - Flight of the bumblebee", many of Mozart Concertos, Brahms), whereby nobody would blame the composers in the absence of taste. Even the "highly critised" Paganini put lots of humor and emotions in his capriccios.

And there are lots of nowaday's slow guitar players who suck too.

  • tone in first few licks sounds great!

  • huge head, tiny hands...

  • Alex you are the greatest ...

  • i can feel alex's entire being in his playing, i dont c how u can say something like that

  • Jesus, I'd agree with you in a lot of cases, but you've chosen completely the wrong guy as your example.

Just go watch some of his other videos.

  • Technical players like them have just more tools to express themself, that's what I think..but playing guitar with soul doesn't only mean to be technical in the other hand...so finaly, the question of too many notes or not enough reveal to be a matter of taste...for me, there's is nothing too much or not in music. Even if there's a lot of things I don't like I still have respect cause it's music and everyone's doing his things, you know

  • Great, another playing who should be 'inspiring' me but actually makes me feel like I'd be better off smearing shit all over my guitar than playing it.

  • This guy kicks ass, some amazing guitar flowing from his fingers:)

  • God damn... so fluid... nice!
