We have always been fans of Pocket Wizard. Not any more!
Testing a Mini TT1 and Flex5 and running tests using 580 EXII flash units we found the usable rang to be less than 20ft! Even then, we were experiencing power dumps and pre flash only on about half of the shots we took.
All this is a far cry from PWs claim of a 1600 ft range with full ETTL
The bottom line is this is a product that has been rushed to market, big on hype and poor on performance.
question about the flash set-up. How was the flash set-up on the stand or tri-pod. It was hard to tell from the video. Was the transceiver away from the flash at any distance? I know that was one of the suggestions on the site. Thank you snapfactory for all of your tutorials.
they should include an AC5 soft shield with each TT5 they sell, 'cause they rushed to market without proper testing. otherwise they'll tarnish their image and lose market share in front of their competition.
Im just not happy that I got the CE version from DigitalRev in Ebay as I live in Australia. Now I cannot get the AC5 shield. I have been punished by PW for been a good customer. I got one tt1 and 3 tt5s, the maximun distance I can get with my 580ex is 20 meters
no offense but just use a sock and a rubber band, you may find that a sock covering your top flash will give you warmer flesh tones, also a piece of toilet paper over your built in flash will give you warmer tones. its just a piece of cloth. remember the most important equipment we have is our attitude =D
@poppacooter The material is actually metallic and the shield also comes with a shoe to block noise coming from the bottom of the flash. Even with a great attitude a normal sock and rubber band won't do anything. :)
@poppacooter WOW, this is the most ridiculous claim I have seen in my life! Unless the sock is made out of any type of RF Shielding fabric it wont work, I really doubt that any company will make a sock ourt RF shielding fabric...but thanks never-the-less!
Come on PW, Please give us a solution for the RF Noise
ok ok add some aluminum foil inside a sock.lol just kidding. hey aquaphotoboy i liked your bug pics some of the bug eyes were cool =D i forgot to rate but i will go back and rate. have a happy new year.
Looks great, but what about people who don't live in the US but have invested their money in the mini and flex (considerably more than in the US in terms of cost) yet the free 'sock' is only available to US customers. Do you know when PocketWizard are going to look after their rest of the world customers?
another question whats the difference between miniTT1 and felx TT5 then the pocket wizard plus II??

was there a missfire at 1:03 ?

the PW era is over with this product.

@czrobert No misfires. The TT5 now ships with the AC5 in the box.

I've been to Adorama and B&H in NYC. both still carry the old TT5 without the AC5 in the box.

AC5 Sock with opening to us a external battery pack ?
I hope Pockwizard remembers when you make the AC5 Socks you add an opening where photographers can plug in their external battery packs.
Hopfully that was thought of.
