  • original Luke's got no friends video! :D

  • WIZARD MICKEY MOUSE HAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The commentary from the Pokemon is my favorite.

  • I'm not a huge fan of autotune but I don't mind it when people use it and it works I just hate it when people stuff it up

  • Luke, of course we think ur crazy :) thats why we love you :)

  • the winter tassel hat and the speed racer hats r ma favorites and i also like the wizard mickey one too :D

  • i personally dont think autotune should be used while singing unless you're trying to sound like a different character in a song

  • I miss this Luke, he was awesome

  • I personally love all the hats

  • You always end up crashing into the bookcase. Has your Pokemon tried to kill anyone lately?

  • Autotune FTW :3

  • Luke, if ALL CAPS gets to be on rock band tell us. I will have my parents get me that game, plus it must be a fun game.

  • skeleton creek fans: 0:30

RUN IT'S OLD JOE BUSH!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • no, no, luke, i think your singing is perfect without autotune.(: but it sounds great with it too.:D

  • 0:30 is a realllyyyyyyy creepy gengar, just sayin.

  • Autotune sounds so good, even if it's not used to correct pitch.

  • autotune for ALL CAPS and Ministry of Magic is fine, because nearly all of the songs are electronic. When you want a robotic or electronic sound, you use autotune to get that robotic and electronic sound.

  • NaNoEmo XD That's epic =D

And I love autotune... it makes me sound less like some dying animal that seems to be forming words, and more like someone who can actually sing XD Plus it DOES sound good as an effect.

  • GO SPEED RACER, GO!!

  • I like the Mach 5 helmet!

  • i want a tutorial on how to do that specific autotune effect

  • the intro was jizztastic

  • Autotune ftw.

  • I like the way you guys use autotune, specially since you guys already have talent, unlike SOME people (like T-pain)

  • Luke! Tell pls how you do this voice effect?

  • lol i like it but only because i know u can sing its just an effect

  • Is being crazy a bad thing?

  • what's that effect that you used in the intro?

  • Autotuning is good as an effect. Not something used on every vocal in every song. I honestly have trouble listening to your music, although I like it, because of how fake it sounds. The one good thing about non professional musicians is that they don't have to be perfect, and they're still good. I've seen you perform live and you were good, I had no problem with your singing. So, you should definitely let up on the autotune. Definitely definitely definitely.

  • So it's a few months down the line any updates about DFTBA Rock Band content?

  • as long as you can sing live without autotune, i think you have the perfect right to use it. its artists like kesha that completely rely on autotune make me so angry.

  • Just discovered you guys today. Love the videos I've seen so far and I've subscribed to a few of the channels. (Found you through vlogbrothers). You guys are awesome. Just wanted to point out though that you really only seem to need the one bookshelf. I've got this problem where I'm incapable of not focusing on things that shouldn't be the focus of my attention. Sorry.

  • haha 3:00 love the luke's got no friends song

  • I think that autotune is fine every once in a while, but when you can sing well, which you can, there should be more songs with just you singing :)

  • I want "Luke's Got No Friends" on my ipod!!!

  • @hdix96 you can get it now

  • I think autotune is cool as long as ur honest about it.

  • i entered the contest! but my entry wasn't in the vid. deviantart FTW though!

  • Heres my lowdown - when using autotune out of fun its gonna sound good, when using it out of fear its gonna sound shit. The End. haha

  • I would buy any game system just to get that rockband.

  • I really don't like autotune :/

  • I love the sound of autotune it gives music a certain feel :)

  • just don't use it all the time

  • In the Twitter words of River Coumo (Lead singer of Weezer, for the non-Weezer nerds): "Complaining about autotune does not make you at all superior."

On an unrelated note, he also said: "Don't begrudge me my fun."

So have fun with it, Luke.

Artistry does goes beyond it. Artistry is about about passion, motivation, about why you do it.

If you like to use autotune as a creative tool, by all means, USE IT.

  • I really want a copy of that Rock Band now..... even though I've (sadly) never played Rock Band!

  • hahahaha:

"Luke was like this all through November #NaNoEmo"

  • i love u with or without auto tube ur so hot

  • My oppinion on Autotune: It shouldn't be used to cover up the same bad habits. Musicians should push themselves to improve, but when they rely on Autotune to fix every mistake, that is when it needs to stop.

Also, perfection in music is not good in my opinion. Perfection removes the emotion from a lot of music, which I think defeats the purpose of music. I LIKE hearing a voice crack if the song calls for it (ie. Brandi Carlile's The Story). I do NOT like robots singing. Its a fine line though.

  • I think auto-tune is fine, we all know both of you are great singers, but it does make you guys sound better. And the hats thing was great, I loved the space helmet-y one.

DFTBA records on Rockband? I never was the biggest fan, but I am really excited now!

  • Good stuff, be great to play some of your music on Rock Band.

Loved the autotune, you should make the final i have no friends song longer.

  • cracked me up man, cracked me up. :D

  • i liked the auto tune and all the effects :)

5 stars for the killer pokemon ='D

  • OH BTW I REALLY LIKE 38 and 41!!!!!! (spoiler alert, those are both made by me)

  • Yeah, and should I go to ISU or UNI?

  • I'd love an auto tune to play with! I agree, too much is a bad thing but it's definitely cool for effects or used here and there. Makes me think of Imogen Heap (Hide and Seek)! ROFL love the ending of this vid ^_^

  • I like auto tune as an effect. But singers shouldn't use it all the time, just as guitarists shouldn't always use reverb and stuff. I don't like auto tune when it's used to correct pitches - it sounds fake, and not good fake, but bad fake.

  • I think auto-tune sounds pretty sweet, but artists should vary their songs so they aren't always auto-tuned, otherwise it's like they aren't real.

  • im going to be completely honest. i absolutely love your voice in all of the videos that i have ever listened to. It is very distinct but in a good way. I love that i can always tell when youre singing. I dont know anything about autotune so if you have been using it in all your bands then i would love to hear more of it. i agree with the other subscribers too though, it would be great to hear a song or two with the "real-time luke." Either way you choose, it will be great. :)

  • that was so much epic ness packed into 3 mins i loved the autotune! but i would also be great to hear some songs without it but either way is great

  • I like the SPEED RACER HELMET

  • I think autotune can be a great effect, but I don't think it's necessary to use it for every song. It'd be nice to hear some acoustic stuff more often! :D

I love your videos, Luke. You're great.

  • I like the Autotune coz now I associate it with you guys, but it wouldn't hurt to not use it occasionally because your lyrics are so sweet and honest. It'd make it sound more close to you if it was just your unaltered voice, and in a lot of recordings, the individual sound of a singer's voice gives the song personality instead of sounding like a machine. So give us a go at real-time Luke!

PS I like the wizard hat.

    PPS you're really cute.

  • hey, thanks for putting both of my covers in your video! I hope you guys find a set you both like -- omfg there are so many! haha.

I've watched this video twice now and both times the ending cracked me up. :-D

    -Monica

  • i can understand using autotune sometimes but you and kristina use it ALL THE TIME, with almost if not every song you two make. i just think you should cut back on it ....atleast a little

  • It frustrates me that people don't see the distinction between an autotune effect and a reliance on pitch correction. I agree that the former works fine, and people should be able to listen to it without assuming the singer sucks.

I loved the intro. Actually this video was HUGELY enjoyable in general.

  • I like the auto tune. I want to try using it someday. :]

  • Favorite Gengar comment: "Basically I want to kill myself"

  • I love the autotune. Don't stop using it. It sounds amazing.

  • Now all we need is wrock rock band! XD

  • My favorites in order: 47, 37, 21, 25, 38, 11, 3, 13

  • OMG ROCKBAND LOVE. That's so awesome!!

As for the album cover entries I like...........

3, 6, 20, 31, and 36 in the sets. I really like 29 the best though, because I think it portrays the "Be Mine" aspect of the album with the way Kristina is looking at you on the cover and how you're looking at her on the back.

In the covers section I really like 7 and 13.

    Good luck!! :)

  • i think th e autotune soiunds really cool actually. :)

  • I think auto-tune should be used in moderation. as a singer myself, I think sometimes a composition can sound amazing with it, but other times I think you just need raw vocals.

    but that's just a personal opinion :)

  • I don't hate autotune but I definitely need more Gengar in my life, please. He needs his own twitter or formspring or youtube account. GO GO GO!

  • I respect those who sing w.o autotune more, but with you guys, it works :)

  • I like autotune as it's own style, but I will always love a simple voice and acoustic guitar, it's so pure and gorgeous.

  • i really like autotune.

  • Hahahaha Luke you're too cute!

  • 2, 4, 11, and 32

    They're all so amazing.

And I think autotune is okay when it's used as an effect and for little fix ups, but not used all the time.

  • yay for hats heheh ^_^

  • I'm not really a fan of auto-tune, because it takes away the unique-ness of voices. One of the things I love about singing is peoples' varied and awesome voices, and the way I can feel a connection with them, I guess? I just like things that sound more real, because they seem more personal/true.

Personally, I think you have a beautiful voice and you definitely don't need auto-tune, though I know it can be a cool effect sometimes.

  • On autotune: It's fine as an effect. I like it in techno. I only have problems with it when people try to hide the fact that they are using it (i.e. everything Miley Cyrus makes).

  • I like autotune. I think it makes everything sound nifty. :)

  • I figure autotune is like makeup. it just kind of polishes everything up.

  • Well I don't know. I don't have auto tune, and I may well be able to sing better than you- but hey... i suppose I will never know. y'know? I work really hard to make my voice sound as good as it can..... but you can just push a button :S

  • I love the end of this video!!!!

    haha

and I love them all.... can't pick

  • I've already told you you're special...so I'm not really sure what else to say. HaHa. You're awesome Luke. I'm planning on getting a Wii when I move into my new house and then we can be Mario Kart friends.

  • I don't really care for the autotune. Am I a bad person?

  • REALLY LIKE 42 :D

  • 6, cd face of 14, 16, 26, 42:) they are all really good tho

  • 1. i like the fedora

    2. i love autotune..it makes everything more awesome especially in autotune the news

    3. the nanoemo bit at the end made me LOL

  • I like: 6, 16, 32 & 42

  • I love Gengar! Just making his comments all the way through like the evil genius he is!

  • My favorite sets for the CD are 6 and 26

  • I like the fedora but that's kinda Alex's thing, so Star Wars ftw! I liked the opening! Autotune is great if used moderately and in the right place!

That is sooo RAD! I can't wait!

  • I love autotune. Anywhere. Anytime. They could autotune like andrea boccelli and I would consider it an improvement. I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing real human voices and be perfectly happy.

  • I like the autotuning but not if it's used overly much. I think if you overuse it it takes away from your good voice. And don't be ashamed of being crazy!

  • I agree. auto tune is an effect just like distortion. But just like I don't like songs that are all distortion I don't like songs that are all auto tune. I like your music but I do think you over use auto tune as an effect. keep rockin

  • I have been wanting DFTBA Rockband for SO LONG!!!!

Especially now that I actually have Rockband and play it.

  • Lmao, you are awesome. :D

And autotune is cool, most of the time.

  • i like autotune as an effect, but sometimes too much is definitely overboard.

  • I generally think autotune shouldn't be used that much, I prefer to hear your real voice, but it's pretty much your style. And I like your music. So I guess you're just the exception that proves the rule XD

  • Is there a way to rate videos with the new YouTube?

And I really like the autotune. It works with your and Kristina's kind of music.

  • Luke. I love when you use Autotune it sounds really cool. I also LOVE when you sing without it. You have an amazing voice. And who cares if you aren't perfecy.. know one is. Either way your music, with Kristina or MOM, is great. Never stop singing.

  • oops. *perfect..

    see what I mean.

    haha

  • I don't mind the autotune at all with ur and kristina's style of music...i think it's great!

OHMYGOSH ROCK BAND! I cannot wait for that :)

  • i dont mind autotune if its not heavily used or if it just goes with the song; but it can get a bit annoying if every song has autotune

  • You're really funny :)

I think when you (and I mean specifically you, not people in general) use autotune it's fine, because you can hear in the song that you use it, so it's more a sound effect rather than cheating.

  • on the subject of autotune, while I wouldn't use it (partly because I don't have anything with it to use) I figure it is "a sound" and just like which instruments you use and how you harmonize, it is a style choice. The truth is that you can produce good stuff with it, or crap with it. The quality is still a product of your talent - not of the technology.

  • not to knock Rock Band as I am sure it is a great video game and all. But since I don't really like video games, I prefer to just play a real guitar for fun (or the ukulele my best friend gave me for Christmas...)

  • I love your use of autotune =] It always adds to the songs and sounds awesome! Keep using it, I say.

I'm also about to enter my album art set into the contest, hope you'll like it =]

  • I generally dislike the use of autotune except when used as an effect that otherwise wouldnt be possible. ie. t-payne, those times I think it is ok.

  • That ending is hilarious.

  • I've been looking at autotune a lot lately, and I realize that I like it. I don't think it's a bad thing to use because I would rather my music sound perfect than have this issue that my music isn't all "real." Because what is real anyway? I'd rather have musicians who can write their own songs and play their own instruments than can sing (probably because I fall into that category).

Either way, I love the digital sound. I love your remix of "Can't."

  • I love autotune!

  • That reminds me of Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap.

Listen to it and tell me what you think.

  • LMAO i love the end!

  • I think that it all depends on how autotune's used. Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" and Kanye West's (?) "Love Lockdown" use autotune in an awesome way, but I think that artists who only sing with autotune (like T-pain) are irritating. On the other hand, I think electronica should have unlimited autotune usage. :)

  • I freaking love this.

  • hahahahaha.its pretty cool

  • Dude You Are So Awesome....That Autotune Is Awesome....Gengar Is Awesome....ALL CAPS Is Awesome.....But My Comment Is Lame! I Like These Updates, You Should Make Em Everyday.....With Tons Of AutoTune!!!!!!!

  • OMG I love Can't. I did it and by association alan for and english assignment last year. It is an awesome song, one of my favourites.

  • Haha! NaNoEmo!

  • Like most things, autotune is great in moderation. Enough said.

The 2nd fedora looks pretty awesome.

You and Kristina have your work cut out for you, choosing the album art. There are a lot of great selections to choose from. I like the ones with drawings based on the stock pics.

  • You're crazy, but we still heart you. I heart auto-tune as well, as long as its not overused. Nice allcaps clip! I'm looking forward to the next album!!!

  • I think autotune all depends in the genre of music you're playing. If it's not electronic or a select few other genres, it is mostly unnecessary. I think you use it correctly as an effect rather than to do what Ashley Tisdale and others do that cannot sing worth a darn.

  • Firstly, wow 720p, what camera are you using? That is some seriously badass picture quality you have got going on there!!!

I never used to like the auto tuner, but I really like it now, and I think if people admit to using it, what's the harm in it :)

  • You're such a dork.

  • As an effect:

I agree it's just like distortion or reverb or anything else. I think it can be cool. But at the moment, autotune seems really played out. If you could use it in some new inventive way and do something creative with it, fine. But it seems like it's a fad and personally I'm really sick of it.

    As an enhancement:

I'm not necessarily "against" it. But I just prefer natural sounding vocals. I don't like it in the same way I don't like too much compression and reverb.

  • @thepeteris I'm with Pete, Luke. Cher used it in 1998....then T-Pain brought it back. Use it like hair gel.....less is more.

  • I sampled several of your videos and none of them did NOT have autotune. So my opinion is you might be overusing it. I'd rather hear a natural voice. I find autotune about as pleasant as Stephen Hawking's speech synthesizer.

  • luke- ill be your friend!

  • Kristina, marry him. now.

PS Totally thought you were going to say "It's raining men." hehe

  • I do enjoy autotune, but not when it's overused. I don't think that you overuse it, other artists(i.e. T-Pain) do.

  • I like auto tune when it's used as a cool effect but I don't really like it when artists use it to hide/correct their imperfect voice. I kind of like it better when a person's voice isn't perfectly in tune. I think it adds more character and personality to the voice :)

  • I enjoy auto tune live & on albums when it's used an effect, as well as to correct voices on songs where instruments are primarily digital/perfectly-pitched rather than live. It helps produce a cohesive sound.

Like I hinted I don't like it on albums or live to correct single notes when instruments aren't digital. I will make an exception though for artists who DON'T have the money to record a bunch of takes in a pro-level studio & have someone piece all the best bits together.

  • so sets 11 and 22 just stood out for me :)

oh and, about the autotune, i don't mind it at all. but it's nice to hear your real singing voice too! :)

  • I actually really like autotune.

  • i love autotune

  • I love autotune.

I think being a successful musician is no longer about how much singing talent you have. And that's okay.

  • I feel my vote would be impartial cause I'm entered.... *cough Cough* 17*cough*

I like the auto tune but it'd be awesome if ALL CAPS had like one or two acoustic track or such. :)

  • auto-tune is okay it makes you guys unique but it can sometimes disconnect you from your audience, thats why acoustic songs are so great its nothin but the artist and the guitar.... thats so sweet you guys are gonna be on rockband

  • #42 & #32 are my favorites.

I like auto tune as an effect. It can add a lot to a song. I think people get put off by it when people abuse it and just do awful things with it.

  • Forgot to say - favourite sets for the album are 11, 16, 18 & 20 :0)

  • 3,4,16,32

  • I'm not a huge fan of autotune, but it's not like I'm morally opposed to it or would call it wrong. It's just not my preference. I'd probably enjoy your music a little more without it, but your stuff is good enough that I enjoy it despite my dislike for autotune.

  • Lovin the remix.

And now I REALLY wish I had Rockband.

  • I like autotune.

    As an artistic effect.

I think people who believe autotune is a cop out are dumb.

  • sets: 11, 18, and 21

Great video btw. :) I think auto tune sounds good.

  • sets

    6 11 12 16 42

    individual covers

7 and 14 should be made into sets!

  • As long as the whole song's not it autotune, it's OK. Some artists take advantage of it and are a huge let down in concert when they don't have autotune to save them, so I think it's a good move to keep it limited to when you really need it and the back up/background vocals.

  • You're crazy. I don't get it. Have you just had all this epic vlogging skill bottled up in you all this time and then as soon as you started dating Kristina it kind of just EXPLODED all over the internet in a big hot video mess?

    You're so awesome. It's ridiculous.

I think that an artist should be able to sing well without being autotuned, but if they want to autotune their music, then it's fine. I love MoM and ALL CAPS' sound. =D

    -alex

  • I like it!

  • five stars for the purple Pokemon thing saying all kinds of things!!

  • i like the autotune.

  • a) I like the whole autotune effect deal in moderation. Don't really know much about music, so really I have nothing else of substance to add. b) So freaking excited about DFTBA rockband!

  • i like it a lot.

  • love the autotune

  • I'm really cool with your use of autotune, but thinking of it, my favorite songs of yours don't have autotune -- Me and Milee (sorry I brought her up, but I really, really love that song!!) and Snow Day. Don't take it the wrong way, I love all the other ditties have danced around to them many a time, but I didn't realize that subconsciously I prefer the acoustic ones a bit more? Anyway, your songs being on Rock Band is just wicked cool.

  • 3,4,5,6,17,20 - those ones are amazing :)

  • NaNoEmo

  • I think it should be used as an effect, but not to as a way to make a singer sound better.

  • I don't like AutoTune for most but stuff like pop and tronpop's fun..

    But Acoustics... no.

It's okay SOMETIMES but it's nice when people don't. Even if it's just like on 3 songs..

I say you try that & judge from the comments.

  • i like it as an effect, but when you use it in place of actually singing, then i have a problem. like, you should sound pretty good live, whether you use autotune or not.

  • autotune's fine you should check out perfume, every single one of those girls's song's are tuned

  • I've heard that Glee might not use the plug in "auto tune" but they use heavy pitch correction software that is hard to detect, but I can hear it.

  • I like it in your music, but I think that it can get annoying when it is used outside of music...

  • i really dislike overuse of autotune, sorry. not just when it's used as a copout to 'improve' singing but when it's overused as an effect too. it kinda grates. it can sound cool too but yeh has to be done right/mixed with synth well to make a whole electronic sound.

  • is cory the guy who plays finn? yeh it's only really noticeable on 'can't fight this feeling anymore' so far - and i woulda preferred him not singing too well than the robotic sound.

  • I like the autotune.

  • Sets 3, 4, 5, 26 are awesome, but the best is 34.

  • You're crazy.

    I like it.

  • I think auto tune is fine... as an effect, but mastery is always going to out class technology in the arts. I mean, like using distortion, a great guitarist using distortion is always going to sound better than a shitty guitarist using distortion. A great singer using auto tune well as an effect is going to sound better than a shitty singer using auto tune as a band aid (and I don't mean a music festival to help farmers).
