From the Vietnam War through today, the GI Bill hasn't paid enough and we only had 10-years to use the benefits. At least it's something but it is not enough and the 10-year time limit is a bunch of BS. WWII GI Bill was the best.
This video is no longer relevant since the new G.I. Bill has passed, but the reason McCain wouldn't co-sponsor it is because he favored a different version of the bill which scaled benefits with length of service to encourage people to stay in the military longer than four years and reward those who did.
Also, I really wish someone could tell me whether I still get anything for taking the full Army College Fund. I may actually LOSE $10-20k under the new G.I. Bill compared to before it passed!

The GI Bill is not a social program. It is not supposed to set you up "after the service" It is to help with retention, help you become a more professional servicemember. Not pay your electric bill. And for dumbnewfilms to tool these misinformed soldiers for a political ad is disgusting. They already spend ample amount of funding on it now. I highly recommend any funding should be spent on rehabing the wounded vets that are coming back by the 1000s. They haven't even scratched the surface there.

I used the G.I.Bill. I am a veteran of the Iraqi freedom crap. The G.I. benefits that I recieve cover everything (almost 2k a month. There are catches to this. 1. When you join you have to get college assistance included in your contract. 2. You have to PAY the U.S. Govt. $100 every month for 12 months. 3. To earn extra funds for college (added to what I use now) you have to pay the U.S. Govt. $500-600 CASH or money order for a one time payment. Lastly, the G.I. lasts only 3 years.
Im also trying to use my GI bill from operation screw Iraqi freedom. The one thing they don't tell you when you join is how much a pain in the ass it is to get the gov to pay the GI benefits

I was told that I could use the G.I. Bill at any educational institution but in reality, you can only use the G.I. Bill at a government recognized(not a national recognized) institution that way the funds are cycled and recycled through the government. Also there's a few of us who, upon transitioning back into civilian life, purchased a G.I. Bill Kicker that's supposed to amount to $5,000 extra, never get to use it.
I understand what these veterans are experiencing. The G.I. Bill is a fund started within the first year of enlistment and it begins with money withdrawn from your pay for 12 months and it was supposed to amount to over $20,000 for college. I found out that I would have to pay to enroll out of pocket and allow the G.I. Bill to reimburse me. I don't have the funds to enroll myself and shouldn't have to take out a loan if the G.I. Bill and the $30,000 Navy College Fund is supposed to cover me.

From the Vietnam War through today, the GI Bill hasn't paid enough and we only had 10-years to use the benefits. At least it's something but it is not enough and the 10-year time limit is a bunch of BS. WWII GI Bill was the best.

This video is no longer relevant since the new G.I. Bill has passed, but the reason McCain wouldn't co-sponsor it is because he favored a different version of the bill which scaled benefits with length of service to encourage people to stay in the military longer than four years and reward those who did.
Also, I really wish someone could tell me whether I still get anything for taking the full Army College Fund. I may actually LOSE $10-20k under the new G.I. Bill compared to before it passed!

The GI Bill is not a social program. It is not supposed to set you up "after the service" It is to help with retention, help you become a more professional servicemember. Not pay your electric bill. And for dumbnewfilms to tool these misinformed soldiers for a political ad is disgusting. They already spend ample amount of funding on it now. I highly recommend any funding should be spent on rehabing the wounded vets that are coming back by the 1000s. They haven't even scratched the surface there.

If these servicemembers joined the military strictly for the educational benefits, they should have done their homework first. "Your school will be paid for." It's called a budget. Where does all of this money come from? TA covers 100% of tuition while you're in. The one guy served for 8 years. I am criticizing because these guys did receive the GI Bill. It is substantial. You put in $1200 ($100x12mos) and receive $34,800Meanwhile, you can also take advantage of tuition assistance program which covers 100% tuition, up to $9,000 a year. The one guy who was in for 8 years could receive over 100K in educational benefits and he cries because he wants more. VAkraut I served 86-91 1st Gulf War. You are WAY off base with your figures you are probably a recruiter sitting at your desk bullshittn. Yes you do receive money but it is always late and only covers the cost of a community college-a cheap one! During my time in service I was paid less than a waitress the least they can do is give people who have served and lived through it and even paid into the GI BILL a sufficient amount. Schooling is Free if you are FULL ACTIVE DUTY! trust me, i am a Marine..i know. GI Bill right now DOES IN FACT cover MOST schooling fees. I am sorry that it cant pay for all of your housing, books, classes, supplies, beer, doritos, condoms, etc.
If you want full assistance, go full duty, you want partial, stay reserve. Most active duty people have the same thought process on reservists:

I thought my point was a little clearer and I am sorry if you misunderstood whether intentionally or truly; I intended to show my frustration over the 'active duty vs reservist' argument due to the fact it did nothing to address the issue of how badly we are missing the mark as far as treatment of all who serve or have served. I am one US NAVY retiree which gets paid more now than when I was in. I got majorily disabled nd the US gave me what I needed and I have the best VA Doctors for my medical problems.
I only do volunteer work but all I can talk about is how Mossad attacked us on 9/11, how Mossad attacked in Madrid, How Mossad attacked London on 7/7 and how Mossad blew up Oklahoma Federal Building.
I tried to get employeed when I recooperated and not even McDonald's would hire me. =))

I used the G.I.Bill. I am a veteran of the Iraqi freedom crap. The G.I. benefits that I recieve cover everything (almost 2k a month. There are catches to this. 1. When you join you have to get college assistance included in your contract. 2. You have to PAY the U.S. Govt. $100 every month for 12 months. 3. To earn extra funds for college (added to what I use now) you have to pay the U.S. Govt. $500-600 CASH or money order for a one time payment. Lastly, the G.I. lasts only 3 years.

I was told that I could use the G.I. Bill at any educational institution but in reality, you can only use the G.I. Bill at a government recognized(not a national recognized) institution that way the funds are cycled and recycled through the government. Also there's a few of us who, upon transitioning back into civilian life, purchased a G.I. Bill Kicker that's supposed to amount to $5,000 extra, never get to use it.

I understand what these veterans are experiencing. The G.I. Bill is a fund started within the first year of enlistment and it begins with money withdrawn from your pay for 12 months and it was supposed to amount to over $20,000 for college. I found out that I would have to pay to enroll out of pocket and allow the G.I. Bill to reimburse me. I don't have the funds to enroll myself and shouldn't have to take out a loan if the G.I. Bill and the $30,000 Navy College Fund is supposed to cover me.

When I got back from the Vietnam war you received a stipend that maybe paid for your books if you were lucky. I had to work a full time job and to earn wnough for tuition and living expenses. I thought these guys were warriors...

Thank you for your service in Vietnam. I believe the point of the video and their statements are to point out the hypocrisy in the Republican party. They talked as though they(the Republican party) have a monopoly on patriotism and one way they try to prove this is they always talk how they support the troops, but when it comes time to vote, they actually vote against bills that would help/ provide additional funding for the troops.

Ron Paul was the only hope the Reps had of winning. They chose to discredit him instead because he was going to expose the corruption in DC with the banking cartel. He was also going bring our troops home form an unjust war and reinvestigate 9/11.
Obama is no better he is the corrupt attorney for Acorn in Chicago and ran policy to force bad/risky mortgages, bringing on the credit crisis so the big banks like the FED could buy up all the little banks.

McCain says Obama wants to spread the wealth around. McCain should first look at himself in the mirror before opening his mouth. He wants to give Bush-like tax cuts to the rich, while the poor and middle class will get important programs cut for them. Plus the Republicans almost always put us in huge debt when they leave office. Reagan, Bush one, and W. Bush all gave us huge deficits. McCain and Palin would do the same. This is an example of Republicans version of spreading the wealth around.

Or you could actually work for a living and get paid. That's what a capitalist democracy is founded on: Work your way to the top. Getting "our share" as you say, is a definition of Socialism and Communism. Try moving to China or Russia. They already have that kind of government. Or you could try North Korea. Amen, it's time for a change - it's time for Democrats to take office. Sure they can't fix everything but at the very least they can end this war which will AUTOMATICALLY stop the immediate debt. The deficits will be here to stay for the next 60 years or even a century but with McCain/Palin it will get MUCH worse.

McCain won't sign the GI Bill because it's yet another hugely expensive entitlement program...and we can't even pay for the programs we currently have (social security, medicaire, medicaid, federal pensions, etc.).
I retired in 2005 after 24 yrs on active duty and I opposed the Bill because...WE CAN'T AFFORD IT.
The Dems always have an advantage here. Basically buying votes by promising everything to everybody. It works because the bill doesn't come until "later".

How is it that Obama was the second biggest receiver of campaign contributions from Freddie and Fannie if he was a senator for two years. Chris Dodd was the first and he has been in office way longer then Obama. Could it be that it was his involvement with ACORN?
