So true. When you think about Pitbull or Soulja Boy, those guys don't have anything to say the way Rakim and KRS-one did, and don't get me started on Public Enemy. I MISS Public Enemy. I feel like rappers have nothing to say these days. just talking about money and girls- its so old. I think with the recession, the way it now, you would think there would be a lot to say right about now in hip hop

@veganchefnyc haha! don't knock Soulja Boy! JK. I think there is a time in a place for everything. Sometimes you want to hear frivalous club music that doen't talk about anything except partying. And not every KRS-One song would be great to hear at a nightclub. Personally I don't know how any musician makes money anymore. Too many one hit wonders and then they're gone.

@nofarmnofoodnofuture i'm not knocking soulja boy per say :) as much as I am saying, I mean, look at his lyric 'them boobies, that azz that azz them boobies' I mean, REALLY?!?! But maybe I am just jealous that someone can get away with such terrible lyrics AND buy a 5 million dollar jet. FML. I am just saying I prefer lyrics to songs that have something clever to say or that might even be inspirational. That's what I would rather here, and frankly, what we need more these days.

@ringinthenow Agreed. Both there are so many great MC's out there, they just don't get as much airplay as Kanye, or Jay-Z, but that doesn't mean their isn't some really amazing music being produced, it can just be a little bit harder to find. But, I feel like we don't give enough credit to the Classic's like KRS-One or Rakim, etc.

@ringinthenow honestly I don't listen to a lot of hip-hop and I really haven't listen to any rock after 1998. But, I would love to hear some new stuff that I could get into. I loved Tribe Called Quest and KRS-One, and that's pretty much the last of what I loved about hip-hop. I think the name 'hip-hop' now should even be associated with the hip hop that was made in the 80s. In the 80's and early 90's there was something to say. Now rapping about how blinged out you can be, or the club is lame

KRS-One is amazin' I didn't know much about him til I read his wiki page. He has been through a lot- they don't make MC's like this anymore. This is from his wiki page "Born Lawrence Parker in Flatbush in Brooklyn, New York in the summer of 1965, the MC left home at 14 to become an MC and Philosopher. He came to live in a homeless shelter in the South Bronx, where he was dubbed Krishna by residents because of his interest in the Hare Krishna spirituality of some of the antipoverty workers."
