  • If your job is to teach contemporary science, and you teach mythological rubbish instead, then you should be fired, or at least warned.

  • I'm happy to see Pennsylvania (my home state) is in the green for standards. I had my first real biology class in 2006, soon after the Dover, PA trial was ruled on, or even during (I don't really remember my schedule from back then), and I can personally say we were taught evolution, and we had very little controversy. We did discuss some ID and creation ideas, but they were usually just questions, such as the eye argument. We were shown the evolution of the eye, so it was all good.

  • 606JJ The coordination of science and religion with the truth of reality - the COSAR Principle - A Revelatory Proposition is detailed in Up Close and Personal with The Urantia Book - Expanded Edition. PZ Myers will appreciate this work. Those that are thirsty for truth will want to explore further.

  • Americans have are fucking morons

  • @martyaus2905 Poor morons, getting fucked by Americans.

  • Iowa was settled by Dutch, the country that produced Spinoza and was a haven for rationalism. We're the state that started Obama's nomination and one of the few states to have legal marriage for homosexuals. I was taught the theory of evolution in school, so not having standards is not necessarily bad and it certainly doesn't mean we're all bible-thumping farmers.

  • I agree and I don't think PZ was claiming that, I'm pretty sure he was just making a joke.

  • @jgoemat If you listen in at about 3:00 you'll hear that he says the state standards don't necessarily reflect what is actually taught in the class rooms but it gives the parents some leverage on teachers and schools who don't teach according to the state standards. So having a good state standard is still better than not having them but I think no standards are better then having bad standards.

  • A creationist puts on a suit goes and applies for a job studying the evolution of teleosts

no, this is not the set-up for a joke
