eh, I feel like the illustration of weening off of addictive substances isn't comparable in the case of serious alcoholism... in certain cases it can be very dangerous to take an alcoholic completely off alcohol all at once.
I am doing SO much better since I tweaked this diet to suit me, a fast walker and early riser but no athlete. I have my smoothie and then a little pineapple for lunch then fast. I've lost ten pounds [almost down to my normal weight again, gratefully] and am no longer moon-faced from the sugar reaction of eating too many bananas and dates. If I were 20 and an athlete it may be different, but it's sorta silly for an elder more sedentary--which they SHOULD be as they study and write for legacy
Dangerous information from Doug Graham if you ask me and obviously doesnt know much about drug or alcohol addiction, cold turkeying alcohol or pharmaceutical drugs such as benzodiazepines can result in death as well as other problems such as seizures(often the cause of death). Which is why a taper is recommended for these types of drug/alcohol addiction to reduce the likelihood of death or adverse symptoms from withdrawal.
The Grahams on the value of fasting. I agree! What I don't understand is: Why can't we just fast each day after breakfast of ten bananas and ten dates with a little green pr in the blender--Why do we have to eat all day if Dr Doug says to fast? that's my tweeking of the 80-10-10, since I love fasting, not eating all day.
@karenkellock 10 bananas and 10 dates is roughly 1500 calories. Unless you lie in bed all day you will need more than that. I find that working and fasting is not nice and hard. A lot of emotions come up when I fast and work. Graham proposes fasting equals resting here and that is probably what one should do when fasting.
that is one way of fasting intermittently if you do not have time to do a whole 6 or 10 or 30 day fast with full bed rest. Tonya Zavasta another raw foodist advocates doing a fast after three pm for longevity. she is also into calorie restriction. without high carbs low fat diet that is one alternative.
@jblandzorz He says those words exactly. Go watch at the 3 min mark. Doug Graham is a genius when it comes to nutrition and health, but this video makes it clear that he has not had experience with drug addiction.

@FoodnSport I think you sent me the wrong information. I meant to ask about the song with the sitar at 5:41.
It's very relaxing.
