  • This is a good documentary.

  • yo dude got on a avirex jacket ...america wasnt rockin dat til 1999

  • which year is this from

  • Dave Pearce, did'nt know that he was into rap. Thought he came up through dance music

  • @stepahead2be Dave Pearce is the guy on PE's Nation of millions album who says 'Hammersmith Odeon, are u ready for the def jam tour let me hear u make some noise...'

  • Lots of Wacky D's in the UK back in the day. Some of these guys have no feel for rap! Others sound like they just practiced those lyrics minutes before they got on stage!

  • Ah before Dave Pearce went pop/house. Every Monday night on Radio London. OMG Faze One at 4:34. If you can get their 1987 Lp Heroes in the works you'll be a better person for it. UK old skool

  • Hip Hop is BLACK Music/Cultture! We created it to give us voice around the world. Don't label Hip Hop something else because the rest of the world has embraced it.

  • Dave Pierce is a cock

  • Ahahahahahhaahhaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahhahahah......Hhaaaaaaa

  • they were sayin american hip hop has nowhere to go even way back then and this sadly is stil true.

  • Some real cringe worthy shit there lol..Faze 1 were ok though..If theres any Americans reading this..Trust me theres better stuff out there from these days...Look up Hijack..RIP Derek B

  • @tapz1972 Yeah, y'all had some dreadful acts back in the day. The first female on the mike should be flogged for ever thinking she can rock the mike!

  • Who's the radio presenter at the start?

  • dave pearce

  • hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha!

  • Ouch - amateurish doesn't even describe it - I see your post Theo - hope you're good

  • This program was terrible at the time, not just watching it now.

I remember me and my mates laughing / cringing / yelling at the TV in hilarity / horror.

Dave Pearce's show was always a bit shit.

Wee Papa Girl Rappers etc. Total rubbish.

  • Very sad to hear that Derek B has Passed away at the age of 44 Years.......Condolences to Family and Friends

    R.I.P Derek B.

  • OMG!!! So it is true!!! I read about on a forum and thought it was a wind up!

R.I.P. Derek B thanks for the good times in 87'

  • Gosh UK hip hop was really shit wasnt it

  • It's come a long way since then, you've gotta realise this doc is from when the UK was only just discovering it.

  • Mighty Shameful...lol! Still...this was like the side to the scene that was within view of regional news at the time.

  • who the fuck was that shit female rapper at the start??? wtf! my mum cud take her!

  • Yeah, and I'd fuck her too - she was pretty!

  • @kober777 Sonia Frazer, Lol

  • serious dude, i can't believe how shit she is..she annoys the F*** out of me! lol

  • omg Dave P looks mega young

  • Sonya Fraser is without a doubt the worst MC ever. Makes Reh Dogg look like Biggie.

  • Sonya Fraser lol needs blasting with a laser.

she sounds like a teacher or a mum trying to rap

    STOP please!!!

  • It was painful to listen to, so glad they cut her off!

  • RIP Derek B

  • innit man that was proper corny

  • Forget all the arguments, How ahead of his time was Derek B? The man is rocking a avirex jacket!!! took 15 years to catch up to that

  • lol yeh u right on there...

check out a uk hip hop doc i just put up 'south coast'

  • god dave pearce is ugly, and why did he sell out with the dance crowd??

  • is it to late to send in my demo?

  • as much as the brits hate yanks why is that ugly brit wearing a yankee hat?

  • NY caps were the style bk then...still are now a suppose

  • silver bullett,hijack,demon boyz,gunshot?derek b bollox.

  • see redvenom been on the scence for years nice video peace

  • Well its obviously how America was very ignorant over the years...we let their artits comes to us BUT they dislike us

Also not only Hip-hop aint influence us..we made up our own URban Ting such as Jungle/Ragga & Drum N bass...those kinds of music touched the UK scene with influeneces such as The Slang Decent from Jamaican...

They cant touch UK man and we aint big headed either...we should make peace cos after al its music!!

  • Well, we did create it and all music the world loves - so what do you expect. No one here wants to here people from other countries rap. It started talking about black things and our concerns. Other accents don't work. While London has been down for a while, the style and imitation can't work. Wee Papa Gris and Slick Rick were your best. SR of course was good because he lived here. UK can't touch US in anythng. You guys imitate all that we do. No influence from there to here.

  • Steely blue eyes with no love in them, scan the World,

And a humourless smile, with no warmth within, greets the world.

And I, I have got nothing, to offer you

No-no-no-no-no, just this heart deep and true, which you say you don't need

  • I do agree with you somewhat ON THE MUSIC SIDE, yes the world loves black/AA music and culture anything from jazz, blues, rock and roll, rap, harlem rennaisance. But this does not mean other countries cannot have their own variations and hybrids from South Africa, to Maoris in NZ to Brit blacks in UK. Many Americans wonder why they are hated around the world, I personally love a lot about America but others hate the type of arrogant comments and hyperbole typical of that nation.

  • I never wrote that other countries cannot have their take on our creations (African-American creations by the way), I was just saying that we are no arrogant, you guys are just mad because we create and you can't shine in the US. The Who never had hits here when they sounded British. Once they changed, they had hits. The world hates #1's. In the US, the rest of the country hates NYC because it is #1. In the NFL, people hated the Patriots for the same. Yankees for the same. No one hate #15.

  • N0Gar, you're comment highlights how insular the US is. Generally if it ain't country, rock or rap, you're not gonna hit wherever you're from. Here in the UK, we have a huge and diverse range of music on our radio/ charts from novelty comedy records, hip hop (US+UK), Europop and a huge variety of indie/ electro/ house records from around the world and our home market. C&W from anyone sells virtually nothing here. That's without mentioning the # of UK producers and songwriters who are global hits

  • dave peirce is such a twat.

  • amen. the westwood of the era.

  • respect to the overlord x but im sorry not one of these hip hoppers was fit enough to lace up silver bullets trainers british hip hop started with the bullet you know what time it is london? time to bring forth the guilitine....wake up the kracken unleash the heat peel back your shirt and inject the beat!! nuff said

  • uurrmmmm.... Demon boyz. Oh and Hijack.

  • Demon Boyz and Overlord X (14 days in May) for real!!!

  • Hijack!

Going way back we had Family Quest, Capital Boys etc :) Saw Them at the Lyceum with Richie Rich supporting Afrika Bambaata, Soul Sonic Force and Jazzy Jay:))

Although the artists in the video may seem tame...today's scene sits on a throne created by them and others:) Evolution:)

  • London Posse

  • From the start of this vid there isn't ONE person(with the exception of Overlord X) who shows where UK hiphop was at that time, sorry to be negative but this was the 'goofy' end of things when hiphop radio/releases was in all the wrong hands, on street level there was plenty rough rugged n'rawness, especially heads who mixed it up with the reggae, i'm sure youtube will see a lot of unknowns get their time to shine, btw these comments are by no means a diss to bobbcorridor, keep postin' bro!

  • Well said!

  • your from my manor, we have similar musical taste

  • Hahahah Faze One

  • thats funny as fuck

    lol

  • Check my flow y'all....

Derek B is a sucker mc,

wears Hi-Tec Slammers in size 33,

need an auto cue every time he's on TV,

don't quit his day job down at KFC.

    ....Taxi!!

  • fuck you new jack!

  • DEREK B!!! I loved that dude!

  • well now sonya fraser on the mic right now/

this rap stuffs easy I'll show you how

haha! Wow! She a good rapper man - she better than 2 pac innit!

  • Bizarre Dave Pearce now a cheesy dance DJ, but back then. The voice @ the start of Nation of Millions, Derek B i remember Bad young Brother was awful. Sorry to offend

  • hypest hardest rap track was "rock the beat" no question!! you disagree, you was born after 1990.

  • I'm from the US, and I remember Derek B (Rock the beat was the bomb). The British Rap scene has such a different flavor then the one in the US. I guess its all a matter of taste, but the British accents are a bit formal and it seems their rappers don't flow like the US rappers. I'm biased I guess.

  • Im from the UK and for years we've been listening to Krs1, Nwa, Public enemy. etc. UK artists up until recently have always tried to copy the u.s style and it hasn't worked. But since the likes of Kano, Dizzee Rascal, and Wiley its become more "ours" something we can relate to more.

  • Sway, klashnekoff, akala, plan b, skinnyman.

This vid kinda makes me laugh cause it makes us look bad, but our scene today is strong.

  • naaah, since the early 90's we've had the likes of Roots, Tony R, rodney p. all of them we're making music that the US hadnt even touched on, listen to Roots 1st album and u'll realise Uk Hip hop has its own sound from way back. also dizzee n kano r grime artists, garage is their area, u want uk hiphop u go tommy evans, jehst, braintax.

  • Word!

  • type in skam1 for a old skool uk bboy battle between krew jam and break jam 1985

  • yo easy Q and the E.L.P... nuff respect

  • THIS MUST BE FROM THE 80S

  • SONIA WAS SICK

  • sicck

u recon da comp still on loooooooool

still old skl uk rap blatt

  • 14 days in may vid is dope..is there really a vid of the tables are turnin?..along with pleasure seekers that was a great early uk tune..anyone got the origional version of freshki and mo rock incredible..not the remix on the ep..

  • Derek B is defenitely dope. Too bad there's no video's of him on the net (or I can't find em)

  • I respect Over Lord X & love to see his video for "14 Days in May". I also want to see CJ "Tables are turning" & the full video of the last song on his clip.

  • derek b is the s@%t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Faze 1 were back in the days of UK scene...dont forget sound storm crew with DJ Tec either!!

  • Dave Pierce at the start... What a c*nt! Derek B though, Bad Young Brother, ruff tune at the time. He was the DJ and rapper at the same too...Unique ;o)

  • Bullet from a gun,that was a good album,wish i could find it.

  • It's true mate - top album with some really good tracks n samples. Alright Now & Success, and Bullet From A Gun of course - were well cool cuts.

Still got my crispy vinyl on the shelf somewhere.

  • Overlord X was not Derek B..Overlord X real name ben balogun or BJ lived in Kingsmead Hackney, went on to form Benz,,,also Don Weekes was in Overlord Xs collective and he went onto to form Definition of Sound a truly great ground breaking Brit Hop group.

  • i did a search for overlord x looking for the 14 days video,i remember seeing it as a kid on mtv,,really thought it would be on here, nice vid anyway!!

  • Tiny bit of overlord x on here is only reference to him on you tube. any body remember the tune "14 day in may"? It had a video, cant believe it not here somewhere.

  • 14 Days in May was a tune! Loved it!

  • It's funny watching this, cos I went to a show that was held by Dave Pearce back in 87'. It was at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, just round the back of Hammersmith Paliy. Derek B and Cookie Crew performed there.

  • The Fresh Start To The Week Under 18s thing? I went to that. D 2 the K also performed if memory serves me (I think over an instrumental of Jimbrowski). Also remember getting hit on the head with a coin!

  • OMG!!! Yes it was that!!! It started at something like 3pm and finished at like 7pm. I was 15 then so it was good for me to go and not get into trouble with my mum. I don't remember D2 to the K performing.. but I know it was not just Derek B and the Cookie Crew. I remember do the wop dance hard when the Cookie Crew did 'Females' hahaha!!!

I hope you slapped the fool that hit you with the coin! What a fool.

  • I've got the ticket somewhere.

I'm sure it was D 2 The K (it will always be in my head anyway) and they'd won a competition to perform on Fresh Start To The Week. Derek B and Cookie Crew were compulsory at any show at that time.

I think Bambaataa was in the crowd too (obviously open to some over-18s!)

  • Bambaataa was there? Bloody hell I didn't know!

Your good to keep the ticket.. I wished I kept mine now..but I was young then. I just wanted to go and have a good time couldn't care less about the ticket back then.

Miss those days so much! Hip hop aint the same now, too much fucking crap nowadays.

Major props to you for posting this up, it's brilliant!

  • I used to horde everything, which is one of the reasons I have videos with things like this on it!

Nothing lasts forever I guess, I still feel energised when I put my pumas on though! I miss it all too but so much of it is being young at the right time.

  • Being young at the RIGHT time was right! I'm glad I was a teenager at that time I still got the memories clear in my head! It's funny you chatting about Pumas. I'm into trainers and those times had the best trainers ever! I look at my air max90's, air max87's and my jordans and think about the good old days of Chipie clothing, C17 Jeans, starter jackets and of course great music. :)

  • I gave my jordans aways, shame I didn't forsee ebay. I think it was all about MA1 bomber jackets in '87 as well, which was a bit soul boy too.

  • i used to record night network late at night on LWT, kept the video for years until my video chewed it up

  • Great!

Can anyone tell me whats happened to Derek B? Is he still djing? And if yes where?

  • He's still around he came to Derby a few years back he goes by his real name Derek Boland these days cheers

  • remember when uk hip hop was a black thing

  • Yeah its great now how there's so much integration and diversity in UK hip-hop.....Acts as a big unifying force.

  • there were always white/asian kids on the scene, albeit ones who acted 'black'

  • better than alot of british emcees i see at local jams, noce one bobby
