personally i think theyre both great singers but tarja's voice is best suited for nightwish and this style of music, anette's voice and singing style would make more sense if she sang pop..not bashing anyone just saying anettes voice doesnt match nightwish's music.
Being new to Nightwish, I bought a CD with Tarja and one with Annette recently. Both are hightly talented with great voices. Tarja is simply amazing and opera trained; while Annette is an excellent singer.
As I played both albums from beginning to end, I grew kind of tired of Tarja's opera singing for an entire CD;and while Annette didn't stand out like Tarja in the fist few songs, she became much more enjoyable to listen to as the CD played on. Annette, to me, is the better choice.
@YannaYochana Negative; I strongly dislike pop and rap music. That's why I like bands like Nightwish; they are far, far away from both those styles of music.

Annette has a great voice, just not like Tarja, and I find hers more enjoyable. But yes, I understand where long time Nightwish fans might miss Tarja's incredible voice.
This video was clearly made to favor Tarja. You should've at least picked Anette's own song for her! I'm glad there's at least some open-minded people like me out there who manage to appreciate Anette, what a great singer she is. These fanboys remind me of little kids who move from a nice house to another, but they cling to the memory of the old house and thus cannot appreciate the beauty of the new one. It's just sad, really...
@MeanMiniMice you nailed it! Thumbs up for you;). The stage Annette is on is much smaller (probably in America, since great bands like Nightwish are not promote in the USA) and the video and sound quality looks like it was by an amature. The performance with Tarja is much bigger so she can be more animated and it is in a huge venue probably in Europe with professional cameras and proper editing. Tarja does have an amazingly powerful voice, though.

It's really a shame they don't have so many tours in America, but that's just the way it is: America produces so many singers on it's own that foreign ones have little ground to stand on, so to speak. I'm not really sure what you mean when you say Tarja can be more ''animated'', but then again I'm not really into any sort of concerts... People, what's wrong with you? Hear the voice of Tarja, is amazing. I don't know all the details of Tarja's departure, but in therms of voice quality, voice power and skills, there is a WIDE difference between those two vocalist.
Is very sad for the group, is very sad for Tarja and for Anette.
By the way, even with her great voice, Tarja's carrer will NEVER be the same outside Nightwish.

@kobaltblau007 They sell more albums now, so seems like they're more liked today. Both singers are equally good, but in so different ways... As for Tarja's departure, she was kicked out. (Google Open letter for Tarja Turunen, can't link here) Tuomas handed that letter to Tarja after their last gig and told her to read it when she's at home. I also read Tarja's response, but it really doesn't seem to negate anything said here. So I think I believe the rest of the band: Tarja became a bitchy diva.
Sick of tarja fans saying ''Nightwish is dead'' Really? When they are selling more albums than they ever had? Tarja was never nightwish, tarja was tarja and still is, and incase you didn't know she has a solo career. Nightwish still has the same distinctive symphonic elements and it's still symphonic metal, ok the voice is abit more generic but it isn't pop music. I'm a recent Nightwish fan without prior attachment to neither girls so I can say without bias that Tarja's opera saprano voice suits this metal-goth band better and really belongs with the "Nightwish" name. Tarja's voice is deep, soothing and magical - just like the night.
Anette is great too in her own way. The later songs written for her alto voice are good. She can't compete with Tarja singing Tarja's songs but she holds her own very well singing her own songs. Give her a chance.

Still makes no sense to me why Tarja gets so much support considering she thought she was too good for Nightwish and basically forced them to kick her out. Nightwish is no longer known by that name I now change its name to Nightmare of the horrible singing. Just listen at 0:30 she went flat and most of the song she was over-shadowed by the band ass her tone def ass sang maybe 3 different notes. Tarja on the other hand over shadowed the band slightly and in it you clearly hear a wide range of notes without her having any problems. I miss the rush I got hearing her sing

A replacement is a hard thing for the fans.All they need to do is change the band's name. In a way thats he cause of some fucked up debate!!! Once they change the name, I believe they are as good as Nightwish and can be better.
If there's one thing I can't stand in a debate, it's ignorance of reasons... The rest of the band ASKED Tarja to leave the group in an open letter, because apparently she was drifting towards doing Nightwish just for the money and fame. If those were her reasons, what in the world was the point of her continuing? Nightwish's music (or ANY music) without passion for it isn't MUSIC, it's just someone singing rhythyms and notes to a group of other real musicians' music.
I love how for Annette there was some crappy quality video and for Tarja there was a near concert quality video. If there's going to be a comparison it should be with videos that are the same quality.

Anette has a great voice but I started listening to Nightwish because of Tarja's voice its not like every other female voice. It gives so much power to their songs. I still listen to new NW songs and like them but they lack the Power with the Voice. Tarja's voice made Nighwish standout from all other Metal bands.

tarja has stronger voice but anette is really perfect too .. she sings very well she has her own style of singing.. but nightwish is still alive and i still like their songs with tarja or not :P

ok i think you must leave anette alone! she didn't do something bad...so why this "vs", tarja wanted to leave so....what is you problem....they chose it! tarja and nightwish chose deferent roads! anette is very good singer and she gives something new to nightwish...nightwish didn't die...they are alive...they had very difficult hours and now they are happy again... this is my own opinion

Can you people please just SHUT UP AND HAVE SOME THINKING? Nemo was wrote for Tarja to sing so suit her voice and style perfectly, there is no way Anette can sing that song better than Tarjia. Anette can sing better at other songs, i bet Tarjia can never sing Aramanth as well. Plus, Tarja is not what made Nightwish. It's Toumas, he composed and arranged everything, awesome music.

Tarja and Anette. Two totally different styles to compare. Sorry, but that can't be. Tarja, has a powerful operatic voice, that can make everybody cry. But Anette, has a sweet, warm voice, and while sings, she can make a story real (like song Eva). But if i have to choose, because i am Tarja's big fan, i choose her ofc!

I'm a recent Nightwish fan without prior attachment to neither girls so I can say without bias that Tarja's opera saprano voice suits this metal-goth band better and really belongs with the "Nightwish" name. Tarja's voice is deep, soothing and magical - just like the night.
Anette is great too in her own way. The later songs written for her alto voice are good. She can't compete with Tarja singing Tarja's songs but she holds her own very well singing her own songs. Give her a chance.

Still makes no sense to me why Tarja gets so much support considering she thought she was too good for Nightwish and basically forced them to kick her out. People say Anette shouldn't sing Tarja's songs but what do they expect Nightwish to do, play only the songs on Dark Passion Play? That wouldn't be a very long concert if they did that.

Nightwish is no longer known by that name I now change its name to Nightmare of the horrible singing. Just listen at 0:30 she went flat and most of the song she was over-shadowed by the band ass her tone def ass sang maybe 3 different notes. Tarja on the other hand over shadowed the band slightly and in it you clearly hear a wide range of notes without her having any problems. I miss the rush I got hearing her sing

If there's one thing I can't stand in a debate, it's ignorance of reasons... The rest of the band ASKED Tarja to leave the group in an open letter, because apparently she was drifting towards doing Nightwish just for the money and fame. If those were her reasons, what in the world was the point of her continuing? Nightwish's music (or ANY music) without passion for it isn't MUSIC, it's just someone singing rhythyms and notes to a group of other real musicians' music.

Anette has a great voice but I started listening to Nightwish because of Tarja's voice its not like every other female voice. It gives so much power to their songs. I still listen to new NW songs and like them but they lack the Power with the Voice. Tarja's voice made Nighwish standout from all other Metal bands.
