@OMGitsSander I don't think you understood. What I mean is, you could have a graphics card with a custom cooler, but the PCB can be reference. I'm not completely sure how you can tell if a Radeon HD 6950 has a reference PCB, especially now when Radeon HD 7000 series of AMD graphics cards are releasing soon.

hey i just unlocked mine, its an msi 2gb. winflash said it was successful but gpuz tells that it only have 1408 shaders, is that normal?

Did you ever fix your Aero issue? Check your processes(Ctrl+Alt+Delete for task manager) and make sure dwm.exe is running. If it's not go to services and find Desktop Window Manager and start the service. Thanks for the video, i'm getting 2 6950's would i be able to unlock one at a time?

@pokealong1227 I think you might want to try flashing 1 card, then replace it with the other then flash that. I'm not sure if my aero issue is fixed, I think the CPU is what caused it but since then I've purchased/installed a Phenom II X6 1090T. Thanks for the info though, I'll try it out if it's still a problem.

@pokealong1227 LOL Well normally the FPS isn't dramatic, but this thing renders physics amazingly. On BF3 I've seen 20+ people run in front of me without it breaking a sweat, whereas beforehand I would be staggering at 20fps. Rendering is allot faster too.

@Phenom69ll If you download this tool, you'll be able to find out. Like I said, if that option to unlock the extra shaders is faded, it means you don't have a reference design PCB. Hope that helps.

I've heard that the newer 6950 cards that are on the market these days have an updated batch and would not allow you to flash to a 6970 because AMD doesnt want you to be able to flash to a more expensive card with a cheaper card..

I dont know if this is true.. I hope you know a bit more about this.

Another question: Can you still, after you unlock it to a 6970, overclock the card (as in Mhz) without any problems? Or is it like, integrated and you dont need to play with voltages + mhz and such

@YoTurko Yes this is true. Like I said in the video..."reference design only", they updated the PCB in March. And yes, you can overclock the card after flashing it.

Yea Craig, The Aero problem happens when your Ram is being used or it hasn't be defragged in awhile. Try that =)

Hi mediadoctor, which exact model can be unlocked to HD 6970 , ASUS DCU2 or Sapphire Dirt 3 edition or Sapphire Flex Edition or Sapphire Regular Edition ? ...can you help me showing how to Backup and resetup the BIOS when something goes wrong...!

@kichathedelver Definitely the reference Sapphire design, but I think the DCU2 from Asus has the potential. Backing up a BIOS is simple, you just save it. Once you edit it in RBE, it will write a new copy, so you have your legit one in case.

@kichathedelver the D3 edition shows the option in RBE when you load its own BIOS (saved via Sapphire's TRiXX). Don't really know if it unlocks, though, I haven't tried to yet.
