I never see any videos of people around say 30yrs old doing this stuff, but can they?
I am 30 now and an active crossfiter and former martial artist of 11 years.
I also am interested in gymnastics and, while pretty much everything fitness. I would like to see some older people doing this stuff so I can feel less useless, since it looks beyond me at this time. Or maybe its hopeless for me and I am too old?
Only 30? You are a spring chicken compared to the some of the people on the GB Forum. Among others you may want to that check out GB Forum member FritsMB who is 70 now and has progressed all the up to training iron crosses!
Difficult to say without observing a video. You may post one in the digital coaching section of the GymnasticBodiesdotcom forum to have your L-sit Lifts evaluated.
Hey coach, i recently got a copy of your 'Building the Gymnastic Body' book and was stunned by all the exercises and full progression stages. I have found it extremely useful and i thank you greatly!
I still don't see why this is not good training for the manna, I mean after all the angle between the boys torso and legs remains more or less constant and the lift is achieved by pushing his hips forward in the same way as a manna. Can anyone explain the fundamentally what is lacking in this movement that is needed to train the manna? Respectfully Mark
Wow, that was amazing!!... Not only a good example of isometric strength but also of flexibility that also is required to acomplish it... Congratulations kid
your arms are not too shorts, it's your back which is not flexible enough to bend forward.
Can you sit up at a 90 degree angle with your legs straight? Sit with your back against a wall and slide your hips back as far as you can. You should be able to get the back of your pelvis against the wall. If you can't do this, then you need to improve your flexibility to be able to do a L-sit
This shit makes me feel like I only work out my show-gloat muscles. I can only hold this static for like 5 seconds, haha, I have the core strength of Iraqs government.
man i wish we in Norway had this cind of gym. and that we could train more often. we only train twise a week for about 1,5 hour a day. ;( i'm not getting any good at this rate.
Damn you are damn good.. I was always impressed by strenght of the gymnasts, they are usually lean and fit and have such a mighty power... Much respect
and the good thing is that you don't need to compete or train for years to get the benefits of gymnastics, you can use gymnastics as your fitness tool whatever you age or athletic level
I've been a subscriber for about half a year and every time a new vid comes out im amazed at the stuff your athletes are able to achieve.
I was wondering if there is a way I can achieve something that is even modestly comparable to what they are doing in a home gym/basement environment and what exercises do i need to do to achieve it.
starting out with a spot is the best way to go; it's really hard to get up part of the way initially but with a spot you can at least start to build the balance and strength.
no this is not the drill to learn planche pushups. coach summers wrote an article about learning them on drillsandskills. iv never practised gymnastics and im pretty decent at them :) i have a video of it here if you want to look
Don't assume you can't do it because "your arms are too short." Notice that when the kid first comes off the ground, his hips travel behind his arms and his waist bend is somewhat less than 90 degrees. This is how you would compensate if in fact your arms were too short, which is most likely an illusion (in reality, you just need to get stronger).
No, utilizing only this exercise will ultimately lead to a V-sit and no further. To develop a manna, go to the GymnasticBodies Basic Strength forum and read the essay on Manna progressions posted there.
Nothing of course exists in a vacuum, my athletes do a great deal of basic conditioning. However, my primary focus for developing Mannas is as I outlined it in the essay.

@GymnasticBodies if the individual is 70 and just starting crosses how long has he been training for? and or when did they start.
gotbass21 2 days ago
@thewhistler Recently deceased Jasper Benincasa (bodyweight strength legend) performed a one arm pull up aged 89, with cancer.
So yeah you can do it!

I tried to do the L sit with my back straight like in Builiding the gimnastic body.. but for me it's impossible.. is it a matter of lack of strength?
flaviocipriano23 4 days ago
Yes, it is a lack of strength in regards to your ability to depress the scapula while under load.

Hand placement during fundamental static positions is purely a matter of personal preference.

@Multilingualtricker
I believe it is because the focus of this is to lift the legs, but the primary focus of the manna is to lift the hips.
