They don't get their name because they make their hives in soft soil like a regular ant. They will bite you and even if you chop off their head they won't let go. @Phenom69ll The queen and only male ants have wings. I think this is true for pretty much all ants. You can tell this one is a queen not by it's size, but by the shape of it's back. It disposed of it's wings after mating, but the muscular structure can still be seen.
They have those in Trinidad and Tobago, South America side. very large worker ants. I used to dig up the nest and watch them in containers. I remember the stings I got, a powerful, and aching feel.
Is a normal size, it's bigger because is a Queen which are almost always very protected deep on the nests. We usually see worker ants and they are much smaller.
