Some behavioral experts actually recommend using a toy to have your parrot vent their aggression on, which is a natural part of flock behavor. I think it's an excellent idea. Better he take it out on the toy than you.
That woman's taking a big risk when she kisses the parrot immediately after its aggressive battle with her toy frog! Plastic surgeons have made small fortunes from such indiscretion.
If you want a bird that merely mimics, then a recording may be the way to go. but if you want her to be able to use what she learns, set a talkative example by using the desired phrase/word often around the bird in the appropriate context, and she will pick up on it.
i've been wanting a conure for a while now...but i don't know what to do with it when i travel one month out of every year :'( does anybody know what to do then?
Worse thing is when somebody unexpectedly walks in, the bird could take off through the door :( My parrot loves to attack a small, stuffed monkey toy. She grabs him and tosses him across the room. Then she feels all brave and a show off.
Seriously. I would rather take a way a little bit of freedom than have my birds fly into a window or mirror and break their necks. Or God forbid fly out a window or door.
Or into the toilet or anything else that can go wrong.
Dude..considering you are calling me a moron twice..maybe you should change your nick to Namecalling instead of BaileyFlys..you birds dosn´t seem to be flying so why call yourself BaileyFly?I am not saying it´s cruel but I think birds should be allowed to fly free. Nothing else DUDE.
Uhm... Actually... Bailey would my uhm.. HORSE. Dont assume things. And if a bird is kept as a pet, flying would be a bad thing. They could hurt themselves by you know... flying into windows and mirrors, And perhaps find a way outside and you know.. DIE. -_-!
Yeah I know..just I sah a vid with free flying parrot. The guy who had the parrot taught it to fly outside and to get back to him. But I know there is a risk. Peace..:-)
It's good to boost a bird's ego once in a while. I let my Cissy "attack" a toy monkey that she hates--about once a week or so. It does not harm and the parrot gets to strut afterward!
I have a conure and he LOVES pillows and play with pillows the same way you bird plays with that frog. Also if the bird was scared it would run away or do any thing to get away from the thing that is scaring him.
Just kiss him for me. I love my birds, they are spoiled rotten. Peace and harmony. I should have not said anything, it made a total ripple, I was just having a bad day. I love the frog, I am gonna buy one today, right now. :o)
its ok i forgive you. you maybe had bad experience with ur previous birds. everyone has rough times. im sorry to taking it hard on you. i just thought you were an igorant person which you proved me wrong. merry christmas!
seeknpeace, you are stupid, obviously you're talking out you ass like you actually know something.. the parrot enjoys the frog, hes playing with it not running away. it you truely have a problem with this video then dont watch it. i feel sorry if you have any pets. you must be a boring owner
I replied to this earlier and it never posted, so 2 may post. I am not stupid. I know little, perhaps a bad day. I agree with you all. He is having full, chasing the frog. Blame it on the brain tuma. Seriously, I have one. My birds are happy, Why are you so angry? Can you forgive? He loves the frog.
In the many books on parrots I have, not once do I recall any mention of heart problems associated with 'scaring' the bird. Methinks this expert be fullofit.
You are probably right. My experience prior to this has only been parakeets. If I remember correctly, and it has been a while since I owned one, sudden temp change and heart from fear is what kills them, but if I am wrong, it is from something learned years ago. Not because I am fullofit. I have become a parrot owner, 2 quakers, and 1 tiel in recent times. I have a lot to learn. cut me some slack.
This video bothers me. Why upset the bird like that? and continue doing it? It is not good for the bird and not entertaining. I would never scare my birds. Heart problems are one of the big factors that kill them. You ought to rethink what you are doing.
I think it is good once in a while to let the parrot feel like he's pretty tough! As long as the owner is still "top bird". My Cissy has a toy monkey she wants to tear apart, and I let her attack it once in a while. She feels great afterward!

my amazon is 25 and only attacks women. and paper. whats the best way to train them a new phrase? anyone??
jkuz05 4 years ago
I hear that the easiest way to to record the phrase on a tape/cd and put it on repeat when you're not there so he learns from repetition.

You negative people are funny! It does not hurt birds to clip them and i know a friend that has a parrot that LOVES LOVES LOVES his human family!
Clipping our legs? that is a big difference than clipping a birds feathers for safety reasons! It's like a hair cut for us!
Peace brothers and sistas

u cant cut wings!!!! Its wing clipping!! U dont cut wings u just clip some feathers so it wont fly so high up
FeatherDiamondz 4 years ago
You schouldn´t clip wings. Would you have your legs "clippet"?
cucumb 4 years ago
You're a bloody moron.
The feathers clipped are the feathers used to fly. It doesnt hurt them, they dont bleed.
Its simply a safety issue,
moron.
I clip my birds wings too, most people do that.
It doesnt hurt them one bit.
So its nothing cruel.
Moron... =\
