I love how a hair-dryer is construed as "brash bald-face blasphemy from an increasingly aggressive atheist community" WTF ABC?? Seriously. You wrote that, and so you suck the tailpipe of stupidity. Breathe deep, otherwise you wont die fast enough.
"Take god out of the equation and see what happens, with the likes of Polpot and Stalin..." What a stupid assumption and a complete demonstration of ignorance of history. Ideology and Athiem is completely different. Atheism is a lack of a belief in a deity. That's it, Full stop... nothing more... Now can an Athiest have an ideology... sure... but it's not his lack of belief in a god that informs their ideology or allows them to commit attocities.
“The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” (Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11: Written during the Administration of George Washington and signed into law by John Adams.)
In 1966, the phrase "In God we Trust" was added to the American Dollar Bill should it be removed? I would like to see Abraham Lincoln's QOUTE added on the back of The American Penny, (“The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession. I could never give assent to the long complicated statements of Christian dogma”),US President.
SO many athiests with double standards against their own people. You see Christians and Muslims do this sort of thing to an even worse degree against Atheists, or against other religions. Yet, when Atheists do it? What's the difference? People are people and if you don't like what certain people do then just ignore them. Being tolerant means tolerating intolerance.
this guy is one of the worst things to ever happen to the whole atheist/ agnostic movement. he is going at it all wrong. look at richard dawkins, sam harris and christopher hitchens, they go about it in a way that will move society forward. this guy while trying to do good.... is fucking it up terribly and should just stop
Look at the face on that Catholic douche bag, he's been made to look a cunt and he knows he is a cunt. It's written all over his deranged little face. :)
Great job making Atheism look like a "violent movement". Neither of those two words apply to atheists as a whole. First, it is far from violent. The video shows only a fraction of the atheist community. Second, it is really no movement. It is precisely the opposite: the lack of a movement. People have always viewed atheists to be harmful to the society. Again it is exactly the opposite of that.
When he talks about the crimes by the faithful and faithless, thats an invalid argument, as the motivation between the crimes of the two parties are totally different. The when a believer does something, they are influenced by the idealogy of their religion. Whereas what was the motivation for Stalin and Pol Pot's crimes? I don't think it was the fact they were atheist. And also, Christians are disrespectful of other peoples beliefs, so they can fuck right up

@keithrose4227 See the problem is, if you give such a violent message, then the religious are bound to view us as a violent community of people. Having said that, I do believe that it is important that there is a separation of church and state. An atheist should be just as qualified to run for public office as a believer, which however, isn't the case today. So in that sense, yes, we have to keep fighting. This is precisely why the Founding Fathers emphasized the separation of church and state.
I don't know much about American Atheists (the organization), but the more I hear about them the less I like them. So often their membership and representatives appear to be sanctimonious, centered on taglines, and organized around leader figures. As an atheist myself, I am deeply grateful for their advocacy, but I can't help but feel we all would be better off if they took greater pains to eliminate any similarities, however superficial, with religious organizations.
I'm an atheist and I agree with Silvermann, but the way Silvermann puts his arguments isn't very good. When arguing with a christian, you can't insult the Pope in the very first line of your argumentations. There are better things to say to make a point...
Can some theist explain to me how it's offensive for someone else to reject their faith and have their baptism, which in many cases occurred without their consent, symbolically reversed?
Atheism is a religion. And it's one of the most intolerant and preachiest ones at the moment. Don't kid yourselves. Cong. Giffords' shooter is an atheist.
What the fuck is the ideology of atheism?! Atheism is just a standpoint: the rejection of the belief in a god. Going beyond that requires an adjective or additional label.
I don't believe in God for the same reason I don't believe in Santa. I wish there was a god. It would make life more interesting if he was real. And I read the bible just because it's an interesting story.
Atheists have done major damage to America. They have made the greatest effort to remove a person's rights to worship the only true God in America. Atheists are total idiots who can't look at the evidence around them that proves that He exists. Atheiism is not a positive force in America.
Atheists have done major damage to America. They have made the greatest effort to remove a person's rights to worship the only true God in America. Atheists are total idiots who can't look at the evidence around them that proves that He exists.
@1954phyllis: I'm afraid Atheists aren't the "idiots" here. Many of the greatest minds, researchers and scientists who made the medical breakthroughs you depend on, created the technologies that made this country a leading innovatir, were Atheists. The fact that countries where Atheism is MORE prevalent do better in all measures than more religious countries must upset you, but facts are facts. Just because Atheists do not believe in YOUR "God" is no reason to blame anything on them.
Haha, "the ideology of atheism"? Yeah, some 99 percent of the country's top scientists probably have lots of time to "study the ideology of atheism" in addition to everything else they do...NOT! Again, atheism is just a lack of theism, of religion.:)
The problem is christians don't understand what "lack of belief" means... they think not believing in something is a belief, as if 'belief in not' = 'not belief', and they will argue with you for hours about it.
Ideology... hahaha! We're a movement? I wouldn't say that atheism is a force for anything. But perhaps critical thought (often one of the mental tools one uses in order to get to 'atheism') should be championed. Pretty hard to hide behind stupid ideas when critical thought is being used to its fullest and proper extent.
Hahahahahahahahahaha I keep meeting Christians like this dude with glasses. They have literally zero knowledge of even their own source, which is the Vatican is this case. The vatican has never promoted knowledge outside of basic knowledge on how to make a bread. The pope has in fact, since 2004, made an entire file on all cases of abuse. Until this day he refuses to give these thousands and thousands of cases to the law all over the world.. uhhmm... obstruction of the law?
It seems like the only way for religions to keep themselves a live, is too tell themselves and each others lies. Exactly why we should promote atheism and knowledge. Religious people should all get back to school because they miss even the simplest biology lessons(gay people, gay animals, evolution etc)
The question was just too broad. If a theist believes that dying in battle earns him a place in Valhalla, does that mean all theists need to defend this? Clearly not. The debaters should be free to defend their own positions, and not some vague generalities.
"Is Atheism A Positive Force In America?". How about the other way around:
"Is the Catholic church a force for good in the world?".
There is a full debate on my channel, under the 'Intelligence Squared' playlist (second series down). The religious side get seriously taken down by Hitchens & Fry.
Stalin shouldn't come to mind as an atheist. Stalin grew up in a religious family and joined a seminary as a teenager expecting to enter the priesthood.
@mrbhave Exactly! And the fact that he, along with his friends, were badly treated in the Tbilisi seminary by the Orthodox monks was what inspired him to rebel and read Marx...
-Holy schnikeys! 0 to Catholic meltdown in 5 seconds @11:30! Girlfriend sounds like Sarah Palin on the CBS Evening News... or Porky Pig... That's all, folks!
Silverman took the initiative early against Field by pinning him down to the Pope's earlier behaviour; well done. In an encounter like this, the initiative is all-important.
The bible monkey doesn't even know what a fucking ad_hominem argument is (let alone attack, as he describes it). Calling someone an asshole or calling them evil is not ad_hominem. Saying their arguments are invalid because they are evil is. (which he did not say). Fucking bible monkeys. If they spent a bit more time in school instead of feeling self righteous in their ignorance then the world would be a better place, failing that it would at least be better educated.
"Freedom of Religion" includes being able to be "Free from Religion" and yes, Atheism is a positive force. The different religions should be respected. And just because we are mostly ONE religion, does not mean it is our COUNTRIES religion.
Wait, WHAT?!? Hitler was a CHRISTIAN!!! Pol Pot also had avowed atheists and anyone deemed an "intellectual" put to death or "confessed" at the S-21 prison camp. I would not call that doing anything in the name of atheism.
@RyuDarragh Christian's refuse to believe that someone as insane as Hitler could be from their congregation. They're constantly boating all of the communist of this world into the Atheist category so they don't have to deal with them. They also claim that he was a closet case. Even if he was an Atheist (which he was not, although it's still often debated) it would be impossible to say "I kill in the name of Atheism".
@KraXoom "Christian's refuse to believe that someone as insane as Hitler could be from their congregation." - I don't think it really matters to be honest. The whole argument is rather childish and stinks of "wanting to be on the winning team". The reality is no matter whether he was a Christie or not is that his whole regime was run too much like a religion. You had a totalitarian leader who demanded worship and praise and all the trimmings that go with religion. It was TOO MUCH LIKE RELIGION.
@Boomx2Brian - Did you miss the point of my comment entirely? What difference does it make? Idiots will always find justifications for what they do.Labouring on whether he was a Christian or not is simply point scoring. Which is a very clear demonstration of childish logic or at best indicative of poorly formed thought, which for all intents and purposes is the same thing.Hitlers regime was run like a religion, herein lies the problem. Ps: It's "God with us" - Don't teach Germans German.
@Boomx2Brian I put that in so that you could completely ignore the point i made and instead comment on something completely small and incidental to save face. I see you rolled with it. ;-) Try it sometime for yourself. When correcting someone or demonstrating the poor logic of someones position, always tag on something small and inconsequential so that the other person can save face. I coin this as the "poorly evolved monkey retort", :-)
@TheSpankymonkey Your the one who used something insignificant to nitpick when you mentioned "is" when my intent was to show Hitler certainly was godly. So u r guilty of the same bullshit u brought up to begin with.
Btw we did not evolve from monkeys. We share common ancestry with monkeys. Dont tell a biologist how to do biology. :)
"Gott Mit Uns" was on the Wehrmacht (normal army) belt-buckles. The SS had "Mein ehre heist treue", "my honor is true" or "my honor is called loyalty" on theirs. Himmler was more a mystic and into pagan Norse mythology, but Hitler and many of the top nazis were convinced that God, was, indeed with them, against the "Atheist hordes and Christ-killing Jews...."
@RyuDarragh people will always put it down to a "belief system" as an excuse to accept themselves as authority. If we're playing that game, I wonder how many more people atheists have murderd then christian..
@Bradulation: Ah, but no one has done such murders in the name of Atheism, or you'd hear Glenn Beck and his ilk foaming at the mouth and trumpeting it from the rooftops. Countries with a greater number of Atheists have less crime. Atheists represent ~10% in the US, Christians 78% and yet, in prison, Christians represent 74% and Atheists 0.2%. We Atheists don't get an imaginary "Get out of Jail Free" card by confessing our sins to Jesus.
@Bradulation: Actually, no one, not one verified case or historical figure, has ever, in recorded history, killed anyone in the name of Atheism. No nation has ever been founded on a lack of belief in a "revealed" religion and its "God". Have Atheists murdered people? Yes. But less than 1% of murderers are Atheists.
@1954phyllis: Sorry, but history and the mans own words and beliefs say he was. This is called the "No True Scottsman" fallacy and you have fallen for it. Hitler was not a very well behaved Christian nor was he an innocent man by any stretch of the imagination, but the man who proposed the "Final Solution" was most definitely a Christian. As was many another "Cult" leader before and since. Need I remind you of David Koresh?
@RyuDarragh Hitler was not a Christian. How could a Christian murder milliions of Jews when Jesus Himself was a Jew. A person can tell if a person was and is a Christian and Hilter sure wasn't one. Murdering someone is of the devil and Hitler was definitely a chid of the devil.
@1954phyllis: Just as easily as a Christian ordered the liberation of Jeruselem at all costs and your biblical "God" ordered the death of 100,000 and more, men women and babes. I presume you have read your own bible?. Whether you want to accept it or not, Hitler was a Christian and had close ties with the Vatican. And I remember a time not too long ago when racism deirected at the Jews was excused by some as "The Jews killed Jesus!". Whether Hitler was a spawn of a lawnmower is irrelevant.
@1954phyllis: Hitler came up with his "Final Solution" for both that sad and poorly thought out excuse and didn't just have Jews killed. His "solution" was also politically motivated and was also intended to cleanse an imaginary taint of racial impurity. As I said, just because he was not a "good" Christian or a sane individual does not make not what he claimed to be. There but for a more radically polarized population and a few more IQ points goes the David Koresh of the world.
@1954phyllis: By the way, where have you been lately? Why do Christians seem to miss the pledge by every rational Atheist on YouTube to defend both your freedom of speesh & your right to worship and believe any way you choose? Just because there are idiots pushing agendas they feel are to make folks aware Atheists refuse to be the whipping boys of the religious anymore is no reason to associate an imagined "war on chsristianity" solely with Atheists. After all, some in the ACLU are Christians.
@1954phyllis: Just because you can't accept this fact of history and do not believe you could possibly commit such heinous acts or that no Christian could, does not negate their claim to be Chsristians. Just because he was a Christian does not make you a bad person, too. What this proves is that religion is a favorite reason and excuse for the mad and insane to do all the horrors committed in religions name. To do horriffic acts "In the name of God" is more likely to gather converts, eh?
Atheism is neither a positive or negative force anywhere. However, the refusal to allow religion or any IDEOLOGY not shared by everyone a place in governing our lives in place of reason IS a good thing.
@dioseolo Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you are the perfect example of the reason why yet so many religious people yet exist. You clearly have no clue what we believe and why we believe it. Nothing more and nothing less. There is no other argument that we need to proof you have a lack of knowledge on Atheism. You proved this yourself already! Don't worry, its never to late to learn. And as our movement grows bigger we will eventually force you to study our beliefs retarded monkey!
@dioseolo why dont people just admit they dont know what happens when you die because they dont nobody does nobody has powers t hat i dont possess oh the crimes of the catholic church are centuries old and the amount of crimes are uncountable jeff fields thinks he has powers that i dont
this is called atheists acting religious, it is an attempt to make religion see itself and say 'wow that's stupid is that what i do?'

In 1966, the phrase "In God we Trust" was added to the American Dollar Bill should it be removed? I would like to see Abraham Lincoln's QOUTE added on the back of The American Penny, (“The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession.

And also, Christians are disrespectful of other peoples beliefs, so they can fuck right up

keithrose4227 10 months ago

Ideology... hahaha! We're a movement? I wouldn't say that atheism is a force for anything. Pretty hard to hide behind stupid ideas when critical thought is being used to its fullest and proper extent.

KraXoom 1 year ago
@KraXoom "Christian's refuse to believe that someone as insane as Hitler could be from their congregation." - I don't think it really matters to be honest. The whole argument is rather childish and stinks of "wanting to be on the winning team". The reality is no matter whether he was a Christie or not is that his whole regime was run too much like a religion. You had a totalitarian leader who demanded worship and praise and all the trimmings that go with religion. It was TOO MUCH LIKE RELIGION.

"Gott Mit Uns" was on the Wehrmacht (normal army) belt-buckles. The SS had "Mein ehre heist treue", "my honor is true" or "my honor is called loyalty" on theirs. Himmler was more a mystic and into pagan Norse mythology, but Hitler and many of the top nazis were convinced that God, was, indeed with them, against the "Atheist hordes and Christ-killing Jews...."
allieron 1 year ago 2
@RyuDarragh people will always put it down to a "belief system" as an excuse to accept themselves as authority. If we're playing that game, I wonder how many more people atheists have murderd then christian..
People are to blame. God is to SAVE.
Bradulation 1 year ago
@Bradulation: Ah, but no one has done such murders in the name of Atheism, or you'd hear Glenn Beck and his ilk foaming at the mouth and trumpeting it from the rooftops. Countries with a greater number of Atheists have less crime. Atheists represent ~10% in the US, Christians 78% and yet, in prison, Christians represent 74% and Atheists 0.2%. We Atheists don't get an imaginary "Get out of Jail Free" card by confessing our sins to Jesus.
RyuDarragh 1 year ago
@Bradulation: Actually, no one, not one verified case or historical figure, has ever, in recorded history, killed anyone in the name of Atheism. No nation has ever been founded on a lack of belief in a "revealed" religion and its "God". Have Atheists murdered people? Yes. But less than 1% of murderers are Atheists.

1954phyllis 1 year ago
@1954phyllis: Sorry, but history and the mans own words and beliefs say he was. This is called the "No True Scottsman" fallacy and you have fallen for it. Hitler was not a very well behaved Christian nor was he an innocent man by any stretch of the imagination, but the man who proposed the "Final Solution" was most definitely a Christian. As was many another "Cult" leader before and since. Need I remind you of David Koresh?
RyuDarragh 1 year ago
@RyuDarragh Hitler was not a Christian. How could a Christian murder milliions of Jews when Jesus Himself was a Jew. A person can tell if a person was and is a Christian and Hilter sure wasn't one. Murdering someone is of the devil and Hitler was definitely a chid of the devil.
1954phyllis 1 year ago
@1954phyllis: Just as easily as a Christian ordered the liberation of Jeruselem at all costs and your biblical "God" ordered the death of 100,000 and more, men women and babes. I presume you have read your own bible?. Whether you want to accept it or not, Hitler was a Christian and had close ties with the Vatican. And I remember a time not too long ago when racism deirected at the Jews was excused by some as "The Jews killed Jesus!". Whether Hitler was a spawn of a lawnmower is irrelevant.
RyuDarragh 1 year ago
@1954phyllis: Hitler came up with his "Final Solution" for both that sad and poorly thought out excuse and didn't just have Jews killed. His "solution" was also politically motivated and was also intended to cleanse an imaginary taint of racial impurity. As I said, just because he was not a "good" Christian or a sane individual does not make not what he claimed to be. There but for a more radically polarized population and a few more IQ points goes the David Koresh of the world.
RyuDarragh 1 year ago
@1954phyllis: By the way, where have you been lately? Why do Christians seem to miss the pledge by every rational Atheist on YouTube to defend both your freedom of speesh & your right to worship and believe any way you choose? Just because there are idiots pushing agendas they feel are to make folks aware Atheists refuse to be the whipping boys of the religious anymore is no reason to associate an imagined "war on chsristianity" solely with Atheists. After all, some in the ACLU are Christians.

Just because he was a Christian does not make you a bad person, too. What this proves is that religion is a favorite reason and excuse for the mad and insane to do all the horrors committed in religions name. To do horriffic acts "In the name of God" is more likely to gather converts, eh?
