  • I don't know the background of this guy. He certainely has the skills of playing genuine gharanas bols. But in this video precisely, he's doing tricks, obvious. There is no need to be an expert tabla player to notice it.

Any person familiar with tabla concepts (theka, mukdha, peshkar, banth, kaida, rela, tukda, gat, paran, chakradhar, etc...) and with biographies and concerts of masters can see that what is played here, "Gegegege composition", is not a composition. It's impro on easy bols.

  • @shishyupal you are a miserable judgmental prick. It's fun, Pt.Samar is having fun, not every tabla playing has to be of the same structure of what tradition follows.

  • @DrumTeknique

Yeah whatever. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed are the kings.

The video shows cheap fun. What exactly do you know of tabla ?

Tabla has one severe drawback: it can sound spectacular with cheap style and speed. People think they're enjoying it and that it is fun. The thing is it's not real fun. It's a trap for Western tourists and ignorant Indians. I'm not an extremist. Real fun is recommended by all masters. Fun to delude people is another thing.

  • @shishyupal Yeah whatever to you guy. You really are a miserable jerk, "real fun" "fun to delude" haha what the hell are you talking about? I've been studying with pandit Abjihit Banerjee for years, I know quite a lot about tablas, and I respect and understand every players different approach to the instrument and music. Maybe you should learn something before making your knowledgless statements.

  • @DrumTeknique

Well, sorry for being a "miserable jerk". I feel even more sorry for you, knowing that you are a student of the wonderful Farrukhabad baj. Ask your teacher what conditions Banaras gharana was founded in, and how and WHY it is seen in a particular way by the rest of the gharanas. (Fortunately there are exceptions like Anoke Lal and Samta Prasad) Get informed better then you'll understand what the "miserable jerk" is meaning by "real fun" and "fun to delude".

  • @shishyupal Why would feel sorry that I am a student of the farrukhabad baj? You have a heavy heart, you just want to argue, disagree, and criticize musicians. Good luck in life, lighten up, and enjoy yourself, peace.

  • @DrumTeknique

Misunderstanding. My point is, in spite of being a student of Farrukhabad baj, you didn't catch the meaning of my words. For that I feel sorry.

Farrukhabad & Banaras derived from Lucknow. While Farruk. was acclaimed and legitimately recognized, Bana encountered problems, and that for very good reasons. Your master can inform you.

I've seen concerts from Banaras players, and often one has the right to question the consistency of some players who acquired the "Pandit" title.

  • what the hell

  • Fantastic! I love his innovation.

  • He doesn`t use`s his bayan aswell as dayan with Benares technic.. He takes the name of Benares gharana while i can c nothing of that badk in any of his solo`s..

Swapan da has played dhige dhina, Banares band on several solo`s played with Benares vinger techniq and with a superior sound and speed.. Pt Samar Saha is good for accompany but not solo.. These days tabla players only want 2 show and impress people with small trics.. @ this time there are a few who really represent their Gharana..

  • I'm not sure what gives you the impression that he panders to the audience with cheap tricks. Pandit Samar Saha is well-known and respected within Kolkata as one of the few top-level players who stays true to only 1 gharana during performance. As for his sound production, i recommend you attend one of his concerts and hear the result of his dugi technique yourself.

  • Nice 1 like the style

    keep it up

  • Sorry, but pandit Samar Saha is from the beneres ghanara, unlike anindo chatterjee...their styles are not similar. Also, this guy is easily ranked at the same level as pandit anindo chatterje. We can't judge people at such a level.

  • What?? You rank him with Anindo Chaterjee?? Sorry u dont know any thing about Tabla frankly speaking..Next time be careful before making these comments

  • another thing, is that benaras player, are noted for their excellent baya usage.

  • Again, you have shown your lack of knowledge on by making a silly comment...Please seek knowledge!

  • well, you certainly are a very diplomatic individual to talk to. Beneras players are very much noted for having excellent baya usage. Sorry sir, but if you don't know that, you need enlightenment!!

  • please sir, there was nothing silly about what i said. You are in no position to judge any pandit ji or ustad ji, they are all way above us. Yes, I will try to seek more knowledge in these matters. I have much to learn.

  • the harmuniium is very bad though, but tabla is good, but seen better....?

  • great tabla but the Harmunium player is a bit in stress or someting else??? whatever its nice! respect for your work and thnks for uploading... i give you 5 stars!

  • wah wah nice one

  • wow!!! 5:10!!!

  • great
