Actually, a lot of those pokemon have potential.

Poliwag's speed is the same as Poliwhirl's. Sapphirehuntressx uses a Pichu, but without counte rand it works wonderfully (given appropriate luck, however.)

And you're joking about Bellsprout in your description, but the one I use in ym baby tema is the most reliable member of the whole team.

the best item for an unown in my opinon is metronime since it can only use that move and it progressivly gets stronger.

EV training is a great thing, but it does not make a pokemon invincible. It does boost the stat a little, but even if I put 252 EVs in HP and the rest in Defenses, the unown is STILL going to be very fragile so sorry dude.

There's not much choice when it comes to poliwag. The only other physical move it learns is Ice ball, and without belly drum, it can't do much due to it's poor attack. That's pretty much all poliwag can do.
