The shuttle's thrusters are no more than the controlled release of compressed gas. Now, this gas does not spontaneously emit light when decompressing and so the flash of light that is seen before the object changes velocity cannot be attributed to the shuttle's thrusters. It appears to be an electromagnetic affect that has interfered with the camera itself.

i think the source of the flare is the object not the shuttle.. you do not see this flare but when the object moves... if thats flare comes from the shuttle's engines then the angle of view should have changed but it did not...

and what about the missile why it passes exactly where the object was???

pt1. On YT every clip except this one is cropped on the main subject which makes it look more "weapon realistic". Here you can see that its not the only object that goes away while the flash occurs. Besides, if this flash is an earth based weapon, this flash would be seen on the other end of the continent and maybe from our Moon... it fills almost full frame of the camera, and it looks like its close to the camera. Compare it with the lightnings seen here. TBC

@sebastiansz pt2. Lightnings seen here are clearly happening on Earth, but this flash looks like its behind, left of the camera, not launched from Earth. Once again, if this flash is really an earth weapon, is brighter than the a-bomb and the visible lightnings seen here. This is ice crystals + RSC thrusters + they mentioned coming sunrise which makes a camera flare appear bigger and brighter in the top left corner, sunrise makes ice crystals suddenly appear visible from the dark, IMO anyway.

I too used to like this clip and only focused on the main object at first. But the thing is, its not only that projectile that changes direction, its all the others too. So I think like alot of others its easy to jump to conclusions and be blinded what we want to see. But after seeing this clip countless times over the years I believe they just are ice particles affected by the shuttle. Otherwise why do all the other objects on the far right side change direction as well at the same time?

i personally believe that I have seen something similar tot his on the ground... as in, I was in a car, looking up at the stars with my head out the window (parked of course)

and I notice what I thought was a slow moving satellite, except it was pretty bright... but it was moving slowly, and constantly through the stars... when suddenly, it shot off in nearly the opposite direction at a very fast pace... it really did kind of a zig zag, but it was gone... dunno =/

if this is supposed to be an "ice particle" then why is it the only one to change directions at the light flash? makes me wonder about the education level of the nasa scientist. whatever it is it's miles from the shuttle. this has always been one of my favorite vids.

@nglashaw This "ice particle" appears to be the only one that accelerates completely out of the field of view, making what appears to be a 90 degree turn in the process. This is quite a neat trick for an "ice particle". All of the other lights in the picture, as best as I can tell, appear to continue to float slowly along, so I guess I'm getting the same impression you did.

uhmmmm wtf. there is a flash in the window. ok so everyone has seen this the footage at the end. ok at 8:54 or a bit before it there is a flash pause it on that flash that spawns in the upper left hand corner. You will see the outline of an "Grey Alien" standing in the window. I'm not kidding.

the more i watch these STS videos the more i realize that all these "spherical phenomena" with their abrupt movement are image manipulation. no offense to anyone who believes in UFOs. It's just my personal opinion

Well some of the "light points" may be geostationary satellites, moving with different speeds and directions, reflecting sunlight. At 8:54 we see a "L.P." that changes its direction and speeds up, obviously not following the earth curve, heading somewhere in the space. This is the point of the whole video. There was nothing constructed by man (-1991), that speeds such up the idea is getting terrifying concidering the distance between STS and the LP One of the few times I cen believe what I see.

Geostationary satellites are placed on the geostationary orbit (altitude 35,000 km on the equatorial plain)

The Shuttle is limited to about 600 km orbit altitude!!

Impossible to see them at that distance.

These are clearly low orbit "objects" very unusual for satellites.

8:40 something appears and travels slowly toward the left and at 8:54 it changes direction while 2 objects shoot skyward (upper and lower part of screen) Also alot of other strange light patterns

Than you for posting this. I had never realised before that there was a large town/city right underneath where the projectiles come from.

Also why do the "ice particles" (as Nasa claimed) exactly follow the curvature of the Earth as they orbit? Why do they randomly change direction? Because they are spacecraft, that's why.

I don't know what annoys me more, the fact NASA are lying about all this, or that they think we are gullible idiots!

even through the storms while there is 'nothing' happening you can see strange objects in the upper atmosphere moving too slow or not at all to be satellites and too large to be stars... its a good clip. Thanks for posting :c)
