Postpunk? Pregrunge? Kurt Cobain wasn't a blip on the national radar yet. As always, Todd had his finger on the pulse -- and his heart in the right place.
@BlueOrpheus1988 Thanks so much. People have posted the song is slow compared with the original, and it is. Personally, I side with you, I love the way it grinds, just has more balls to it.
Love the fact that Todd comes on these shows and RARELY plays the "new hit single." This song was 8 or 9 years old when he did this show. I saw him do Tonight Show in about 91 or 92 and he sang Hello It's Me.
Has been one of my favorite music videos, and one of my favorite Rundgren/Utopia songs too. I love all his stuff, mellow or rockin'. This one does rock. Shows what a great guitar player he is.
Thanks BasinatArgenteuil! I've had these old videos that are so great(my opinion) sitting in a cabinet, thought I would start putting them out so everyone could enjoy them. That's cool you got to meet Todd and get a picture/autograph. I saw Utopia when this song came out on "Oops! Wrong Planet", 1977, at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. I was only 22 for that Alpine show and went with friends on our motorcycles in the summer heat. Still remember that day and night, what a great time it was.
I saw him in Covington last Saturday, took a picture with him, got his autograph and gave him a hug. Sweet!!! It was my first rock concert and I sure picked the perfect one. He was concerned that I needed ear plugs...don't mean to brag but it was such a neat experience. I love seeing him on Dave's show.
Forgot to mention, you picked a great artist for your first rock show, I think that's really important. My first show was in '72, Procol Harum, at the Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, where the Milwaukee Symphony plays. Perfect acoustics, beautiful place, has velvet seats. Check out Procol Harum. A great group from the 60's and 70's.
Ah..thanks Mike but I wouldn't picked anyone else. It's just a very personal reason. I want my second rock concert to be his as well. Hopefully you have more of Todd's? Dave needs to have him more on his show.

A tad slow...But Todd is doing the best he can with gay schaffer. You can see Todd trying to inspire energy that the band can't comprehend.
He should have brought out Kasim, Roger, and Willie to blow the roof off the joint!
