@cripwalkerss Genetically modified foods are altered to resist certain diseases/pests, have more yield, more nutrition. It's about turning something good, into something great. Genetically modifying papayas in Hawaii saved the industry there from the ringspot, and that's ONE example. There is a perfectly valid reason to genetically modify these products.

They don't just pump chemicals into tomatoes to make them more red, they alter the DNA to change a certain aspect of the product. Wouldn't it be nice if the whole world could eat organic, but we can't. Only the select rich can. People complain about GMO foods, yet they eat items MUCH worse like trans fat and palm oil.

@chechnya Only the rich can afford organics because companies can now patent these GMOs. How do you patent a species of plant? A plant that naturally spreads from farmer to farmer to farmer, but if found on their land will now get them an expensive court case. Organic farmers can either practice expensive defensive farming techniques, or they can be sued by a corporation that has a specific department for these cases. Were natural food prices really that bad?

Shortage of food is not something which can be solved by biotech. That's the most ridiculous statement ever. This world has more than enough food to feed all it's inhabitants times about three. The issue isn't quantity, it's the quality of governments which have created and promoted capitalism. Food is thrown away each day in countries like ours (the US) instead of giving it to the hungry.
