  • I walk to this music, i partially owe my 120lbs weight loss to this amazing man.

  • this plays on the best part of "adventures in babysitting" lol

  • @NetteFraulein YES!!

  • I remember playing this song over and over on our trip to Fort Lauderdale in the spring of 1969. Those were the good ole days when things were normal.

  • @MrUncleglenn Yes, when Joplin and Hendrix were overdosing, war protesters were getting stoned and yelling "Kill the pig", the Manson Family was running free, and for three days in August up in Bethel, NY, a concert was going on in the mud. How much more normal could it have been?

  • i really love to have fun, but i don't think i've ever had as much fun doing anything as he looks likes he's having singing this song.

  • From LA to Vegas

  • Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay under=rated singer.

  • Love this song!

  • Did anyone else catch that; "7 miles, 6. 6. 6. 5 miles" Pretty badass

  • Pure Motor-City T.N.T.!

  • THE TEN PEOPLE WHO DISLIKED THIS... shame on you

  • This is a ripoff of Wilson Pickett's 'Mojo Mama,' recorded two or three years prior.

  • The other day I was singing this song at the begining of the work shift, saying lets just try to get to the end of the day. No one heard of it before! I felt old for a second, but I still like the sonjg.

  • Huh. Good gawd.

  • I first heard this great song on 'Adventures In Babysitting.'

  • Do it, Edwin - This song was "the jam" back in the day & still is !

  • R.I.P, looks like he was enjoyin himself in this video he in a better place though

  • I love this song. Great drums. I have trouble singing along because his voice is so high.

He does say "666" at one point. The first Satanic reference in rock?

  • Keeping me inspired....I <3 this jam!!!

  • chooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! Saw him sing this live in Ashland Ohio in 1969. He was opening for Iron Butterfly.

  • So freakin' effortlessly cool!

    What a video!

first heard this on the adventures in babysitting soundtrack when i was a kid.

    Feet dont faill me now!

  • OMG this is spectacular!

  • I remember hearing this for the first time in a sample (was it salt n pepa or the cookie crew or something?) and for years and years and years trying to find out what it was. I sang the horns to a new mate and he said "Yes, I know that song" and I could have kissed him when he played it to me. BRILLIANT TUNE!!!

  • I am waiting for a marching band to do this song! It sounds like a great marching band song.

  • this was one of the great motown songs.the hard horns, and the tight sound was the motown sound it was a great loss to lose mr starr

  • i just can't figure out how could i live 23 years without knowing this song. Now i have to listen this masterpiece all day long.

  • he totaly knows what hes doing.

  • war is better

    just saying

  • msGeorgiaGirl, it's a JOKE, i could not care less, calm down.

  • yes remember this track...sampled by cookie crew....thanks

  • Saw him in 1969 at Magic Moutain Valencia. From the first few powerful notes from

the horn section, and then Edwin's voice and dancing, he had the crowd mesmorized. They played this 2 min song for 15 mins. It was wonderful.

  • Top Tune.

  • smart and clean

  • spent years looking for this song...ahh finally !!...greaat

  • What a joyous performance! This is a great song to have on when you're driving and in a hurry to get somewhere, like in Adventures in Babysitting.

  • Bad ASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

  • awsome song

  • Superb!!!!!

  • in 1979 i accidentaly got his greatest hits and i didnt know he was as good as he was. man he was cold!

  • KICK ASS

  • Such a groovy voice!

  • I was lucky enough to see him live. He turned everything off and sang with not even a mike- nothing. And it was perfect and he could be heard clearly at the back of the hall

  • @electricsheep0191 That what you call showmen ship.. Real artist of yesteryear. not these fake ones out now who can not barely hold a note. Very few artist can sing live these days.

  • Wow is all I can say. God Bless Mr Edwin Starr. RIP an thanks for the music.

  • me nd my brother have different fathers and that's my brothers grandfather on his daddy's side

  • WoW!!! nice song

  • So underrated.

Met him once at a "Party in the Park" gig and he signed my plastercast - I saw him again about three months later at Asda Supermarket in Tamworth (near where he lived) and he said "i see your arms got better then mate" What a legend - R.I.P Edwin ! You are missed !!!

  • @ryanfrombrum Wow! that's a really cool story!

  • @ryanfrombrum he was from the uk?? tamworth isnt that in birmingham??

  • @1AStaRZ

Thats right - a town 10/15 miles north of Birmingham. He moved to the UK in the 1970's and lived at Pooley Hall at Polesworth. He did move to Nottingham towards the end of his life though (about 40 miles further north) and I do believe he is buried there. Such a lovely down to earth, friendly bloke and everyone else who met him says the same. Bless him :-( x

  • @ryanfrombrum haha thats cool , i go to tamworth alot

  • @ryanfrombrum He was very underestimated as an artist. I wonder if it's because sometimes music labels give more attention to others and that some are more appreciated as to their popularity and not neccesarily talent?

  • @ryanfrombrum Edwin Starr at Asda in Tamworth...where do you even start with that? :op

  • I jammed with his son Robert (who is truly another great talent) He plays in a band in the L.A. area.Although he works hard not to "sound" like his Father the pipes are just as strong with the same timber.

  • saw Edwin in Bromsgrove years ago at a craft fair getting his name cut out on plywood... I knew it was him he had his name in silver studs on the back of his leather jacket...how the mighty have fallen.. hes a hero though.

  • oh YESSS

  • Me and Peter Butcher were the first scooterboys to dance on stage with "the man" at the IOW scooter rally 1984 Edwin RIP you made us HAPPY

  • Edwin did a free concert @Dorsey High in L.A. in the early 70s. He and his band and singers had the whole football field a rockin. What a voice. He passed away in England right? What was he doing over there? He is still missed.

  • He moved over here for the last 30+ years of his life.

    Missed indeed. What a voice!

  • He used to perform at loads of Northern Soul venues here in England during the late 70s and ended up living here. R.I.P Edwin Starr!

  • I saw him do this at Univ. Calif. Riverside about 1972. He was sensational! I never thought I'd hear it again. Thank You, Thank You!

  • i saw him sing this acappelo and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.. what a truly fabulous singer

  • what a talent!

  • i love this man i knew him b4 he died he's ma brothers grandfather i miss him so much tear

  • Woah awesome!

  • This song get's my white ass a movin!!

    Grove babeee.

  • LMFAO Ha ha ha ha! Oh, man....: )

  • cool !

    love it :)

  • Motown tried to cross over but they still had soul in their music. Junior Walker, Martha Reeves, David Ruffin, Paul Williams, Levi Stubbs, Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Marvelettes, Edwin Starr, Tammi Terrell, Mary Wells, they all were definitely soulful. The Supremes music was the less soulful. I agree Edwin probably would have been a bigger success if he was with Stax. Berry Gordy was too busy trying to make a star or of Diana Ross to worry about his other artists.

  • Here, here,,,,,,,,,,I met Edwin twice, he was always very gracious, when asked about all the trouble he just shrugged and gave us that big southern smile.I m sad I ll never see him again.

  • I love this song.. edwin starr was really great

  • I come back to this video every couple of months just to see if it really is as great as i think. The verdict: It'sensational!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm surprised that not one of the singers on American Idol's recent tribute to Motown performed this song!!

  • soooooooo funky

  • I always LOV ED this song what a GGOD ONE 2 dance 2.. although I am from Ashtabula, Ohio, I just recently found out he was from Cleveland, O., ( a little more than "25 Miles" , it was more like 60 N.E. of it ) L ~

  • I love this song!! I did an exercise routine to this song for PE when I was in 7th grade in the late 60s and got an "A".

  • What a tune......This is going to open our new set.

  • I didn't know Edwin Starr sang this..."ah ah, ah ah...I'M SO TIRED! BUT I JUST CAN'T LOSE MY STRIDE!" love it

  • x2-i was lookin up his name to see what he did besides "war"-great song,i too was unaware he did this funky classic ;)

  • I knew the back-up band that toured with Edwin in the early 70's, thay all said he was really stupid.

  • what do you mean by stupid?

  • Like a room temperature IQ. Not retarded, but a real thick-wit.

  • he was one helluva singer though....

  • ha and they said only asians have small eyes...lol JK...no tho nice song...

  • Michael Jackson sang this

  • He covered it

    It's on YouTube, too :)

  • Nice Gators!

  • Reminds me of a certain Paula who loved this song and always used to get up to dance to it in the old Bush club in London

  • Classic.

  • i love this song

heard it for the 1st time in adventures in babysitting

  • Chocolate Power :D

  • December 4, 2008

I saw Edwin Starr do this song live, some many years ago!

He was incredible... he improvised in the song saying c'mon ya'll let's go to church!

Yes, this is where it comes from... the feeling, the soul in any genre, straight from God!

    Groovin'

  • This is one hell of a track!

On the studio version you can just feel the energy of the performance, I'd love to have been in the studio when he laid this down.

    Stone cold classic!!

  • I LOVED THIS RECORD "SO" MUCH WHEN I WAS "ON THE AIR" at WOHO in Toledo,,I almost got fired for OVERPLAYING IT "OUT OF ROTATION". I had the RATINGS is what SAVED MY BUTT. THEMOJOMAN(.)COM

  • I adore this song. He's like a human dynamo; amazing energy & movement!

The arrangement/accompaniment is tighter than Warren Buffet too.

  • timeless...motown music

  • this is a northern soul essential as well...

  • Brotha Edwin Starr one of the greats in the history of Tamla Motown.

Brotha Edwin had class and hits where just fast and unbeatenable.

    RIP, Brotha Edwin Starr.

  • how and when did he die?

  • legendary...

  • I would love to here that seen him live many times cool cool cool!!! KTF

  • Love this, my fave Edwin Starr hit.

  • legend indeed

  • Nice song. He seems like a very impressive performer.

  • I love it haven't heard it in years. Thanks

  • He was one of the hottest acts to play at the Le Coq D'Or club in Toronto back in the early 70's. When he came to town, the Canada US border was a busy place

  • Carlton Banks's move all start to make sense now xD

  • The man was a true performer and always sharp.

  • this song is good but i prefer war

  • wrong answer!

  • RIP Edwin you were a truly great soul singer.

    Thanks for posting

  • this is country .

  • i also danced on stage with him .But he did nt want to marry me .But he was fantastic .And he stopped to talk to everybody after he must have been there an hour or more.Another great beacon gets snuffed out on the ever dimming musical horizon.

  • Great energy. Gives 150 percent. He will be missed along with James Brown.

  • This song just made me get up off my chair & dance. Feet don't fail me now :)

  • what a jammin tune...Starr is a legend!

  • Few videos can ever really display the greatness of a tune and performer. But this one sure does! Could Edwin Starr have ever been better than on the day he did this video. Pure Joy!!!

  • He was called The second hardest working man in show businiess

  • Edwin star was the epitomy of SOUL - I remember in the 80's driving on my scooter to a Mod Scooter rally and singing this song as i got closer and closer to my destination.

  • He used to do the British scooter rallies during the 80s, and I got up on stage with him too. He used to sweat so much he looked as if was melting; he always gave it 101%. Great man, an American and an honoury Brit, sadly missed.

There's gonna be some great gigs going on up in Heaven though!

  • Love this song. This guy has SOUL!

  • Edwin Starr and James Brown are in the same category - excellent entertainers.

  • hahahaha... Feet really hurt'n @ 1:53...funny bloodcurdling scream,,,,,wooooooeeeeeeeoooo.

  • Anybody see him at Brannigans in Leeds, just before he sadly passed away ? Sang to backing tracks all night ( sometimes accappella ! ).

He was brilliant and I was proud to shake his hand, so did my son and daughter ! God Bless Mr Hatcher !

ah ah ah ah I'm so tired but I just cant lose my stride

it was jr high school not middle school in 1967
