I think that as long as they (any child) are singing in a safe, healthily sound manner/practice and aren't trying to obtain that mature, adult sound while causing their vocal mechanisms undue stress, potential damage, and other such things, then it's alright. I'm learning more about this every day as part of my Music Education degree, some things of which I didn't know before now or was misinformed about.
Healthy and safe is the key. If it is, then I'm all for it.

@originalcarbonation ACDA National Convention isn't a competition. we are singing this song right now in my choir and there is nothing about this song that is taxing on "their young vocal cords." i have been in a children's choir for 12 years and have never hurt my voice. if you are taught to sing the correct way to begin with then there is never a time a song is taxing on your vocal cords.

I was not only impressed by the quality of their singing, but the composure they maintained throughout the entire piece. I've seen college choirs that fidget more during performances.
Of course Ms.Krehbiel is fantastic director!!!! She was my all-state director in florida last year. Ms. Krehbiel IS THE BEST!!!!!!!! Thanks for everything you taught me!!!:)
@pianogirl324 Good for you! I want to be in so bad but I live over 1,000 miles away! I think at All-State, I made her cry because we had to leave! I cried. Ask if she remembers a Soprano 2 that wore a crazy piano outfit from 2009 Florida All-State that came up to talk to her every time we had a break. I remember her last words to me, "Allison, I can see your name up in lights." But she probably doesn't remember me. It's okay if she doesn't. Just tell her I said hi and she made me who I am today.

one thing, the alto part was probably a little low for you guys, you could try transposing it up a bit. but I know that'll be hard for the sopranos then to get the high notes...

Your vowels were very good, and you didn't sound off pitch at all. One of the best 5th grade choirs i've heard. They are even better than most middle school choirs that i've heard, and they aren't even in middle school yet ! Well done!
this was very well done. well practiced (or so it sounds) there was only one small imperfection. that is, vowel sounds. in band, you can be off pitch one way. in chior, 2 ways. a) pitch b) vowel shape( the way you shape your mouth) so just keep that in mind!!! it was great!!!
Ah in behalf of the entire choir, thank you so much! This is my last year in the choir. I'm a 9th grader :(. But this was my favorite thing ever that we did in the choir. Truly and amazing experience that I will always remember and cherish.
