How does it hold up. They all look good when they are first sprayed. But after a few months it starts pealing up or it tears up easily. My current truck had one of those cheap jobs done. I am not looking forward to scrapping all that crap off.
I have only had one problem. On my truck behind the pass wheelwell I failed to clean that area well after prep and it bubbled up and flaked off. I went over the area with a wire wheel and reapplied while we were doing another bed. You can not even tell the repair happened and no miss match in color. Kinda glad it happened, now we know it is can easily be repaired. Great stuff!!
You sold me on this product. I just sprayed my brand new truck be with this stuff, and it was super easy and turned out like a $500 custom job. People who talk bad about this product must not have mixed it right. After 1 hour, i was walking on the first coat applying the 2nd, after another hour, walking on it and apply touch up. Have 1 bottle left over after doing a short bed 2011 2500 silverado. Did not do the tail gate.
First off great vid! I'm about to do my Jeep Wrangler TJ with the paint tinted Raptor, and I was just curious what prep ya'll did for the best adhesion and how long? Do you think a weekend is enough time to do the project? (prep and paint). THANKS.
A weekend would be perfect. Prep time is by far the biggest part of your project. I love how my jeep turned out. That hooked me on the Raptor system. Good Luck, let me know how it turns out.
How does dirt and mud come out of this raptor liner? Thinking about putting it inside my jeep. I know with some of the other DIY kits that are like sand paper dirt is hard to remove. I have rustoleum on my fender flares and its that way.
I used this Stuff, I bought 2 complete kits, and sprayed a 6ft bed extra thick due to the heavy loads i haul. Its softer then i like and it rubs off fairly easy. Its good for light loads and light duty, But not real strong. And yes i prepped it the right way, Sanding and a pre- Paint degrease whip down.
I just sprayed a Raptor Liner in a 2011 Silverado 2500 LTZ today, over the rail, used 6 bottles, shot it with a texture gun from Harbor Freight $20.00, it looks awesome..... 2nd 6 ft bed I've done in a month....
Is this a DIY kit? looks like way too much work, seems like you would be just as good having a professional do it. Most of these will fade under the sun-like anything, the sun is very brutal. I worked at shops that did SPI and Line-X. The Kevlar top coat seemed to work the best to avoid fading. There's also this stuff called Just Once that can bring back the shine.
I am curious, I used Herculiner and the shine did not last. Now I have a new project, how long has the shine lasted so far? I am doing a whole truck 99 F-250 ext. cab powerstroke and just want to know how durable it is? I know they look good at first but after a while they fade like my herculiner did on my 89 F-150.
@bigbird189 the Raptor liner is the only liner on the market w UV inhibitors in it other than Scorpion, it's very good stuff for the $, I've done 3 w Herculiner in the past, they all chalk up, the fix for it is to paint over it, I used a gloss black acrylic enamel and it really livened it up to look like new again.
is this something you would use this on the bottom of a car? i'm building a 69' camaro and i'm just about ready to spray the bottom of the car to seal it up. just wondering what people are using these days
Truck is sprayed!!! lol But a warning to those who want to use this stuff!! WEAR GLOVES!!!!! This stuff does not like to come off!! lol But I will say.. What an amazing finish!! Looks incredible.... Time will tell on how durable it is.
I gotta finish sanding the bed on my cummins then I'm spraying this stuff... I have heard nothing but good reviews on the raptor product!! Can't wait to get it done!!
--UPDATE-- Today I saw the truck we sprayed from Phoenix, It has the same sheen as it did the day it left. There are mild scatches but overall it is holding well. The truck spends all it time outside. I am very happy to say the least!
I applied last week and the end result exceeded my expectations. Looks like I had it done professionally. I used a 30 gallon compresser and sprayed at 45-50 psi. I did 3 coats letting it dry an hour between sprays. I have a Dodge Dakota with a 6.5 foot bed and had one full quart left over. As far as durability time will tell but it seems like tough stuff. Prep work consisted of sand with scotch pad, wash bed and let dry, then wipe down with acetone. Tape off and spray. Mix one qt. at a time.
Great stuff!! Used it on the bed of my pickup, where the previous owner had sprayed trunk spatter paint. (What a moron!! It's water soluble!) Fully sanded off the old paint, cleaned and tacked it. 3 coats of the Upol liner. Stuff is tough as nails and looks great!
As long as you are not laying it down real heavy, you can spray another coat in as little as 10 min. However, if you shoot this indoors I would wait longer. We have shot all of ours outdoors in direct sunlight. As soon as we get the last coat on we move it indoors and let it cure.Once it is dry to the touch, we move it back into the sunlight to let it bake under the sun. All this seems to be working for us.
I shot two trucks rockers with one kit and still had a bottle left over. The only problem I had was the gun wouldn't shoot with the straw in? I took it out and turned th gun sideways and sprayed. I had enough psi so I don't know what's up with it not spraying like yours?
what kind of air compressor r u using? also, how many cans did this take? cost? as much info as possible is apreciated. oh and how long does it take to cure?
Any basic garage compressor will work. We do use a moisture trap. The kit comes with for bottles. This is enough to do a full size pickup bed. Cures to the touch in about an hour. Probably a few days to fully cure. Price around 100 plus shipping at tptools
I think one of the advantages of this kit is that the end result is not a 1/4 inch thick. It is more than durable enough for normal service. If you haul cinderblocks and bricks you probably need the thick stuff:)
Does this stuff have the rubber feel to it like Rhino liner does? It does not seem to be as thick as other liners. Or would you compare it more to a tough paint? It looks awesome, and easy. But is it tough enough to handle things coming in and out of the bed of the truck?
It has a hard surface. it feels like a plastic shell liner. As for toughness I am not sure. The truck in the video stays outside all year round. So far it has not faded at all. I have had it in my jeep for over a year now and it has held up well.
This material is UV stable and will not fade. If you have enough mil build it is extremely durable and generally won't chip. If you do drop something in that gouges the liner, it can be repaired and recoated. Also, you can reduce the material down and spray it out of a regular gun for very fine texture or to g over fender flares. We have even sprayed it on vinyl seats and wood. This stuff is amazing.

Looks/sounds like you're using way too much PSI...

@sweetlikeADAM
Thanks for the comment. We chose that psi to allow for a smoother finish. Lower psi would add more texture.

It cleans up well. You might have to scub a little if the mud drys. I keep my floor plugs out of my Jeep and hose it down. Love this stuff!

All our projects look great. I thinks the only problem one might run into would be from poor prep work. Give it a try and post you comments.

did you get the 3 coats just out of the one 4 bottle kit?

@1slowgto Yes, you can get 3 coats out of one kit. It would have been nice if the kit came with one more bottle.
