bought a kit about 6 years ago from a dealer in the U.S, but now the faggot lawmakers changed the law so they can't export to the U.k anymore. fucking shame, they're great pieces when they're finished
Now that I know it requires extensive welding with a MIG welder... I think i'm going to pass up on the Sten parts kit. I personally can't weld worth crap, and to take it to someone in town costs me a lot of money.
@mark16443 Got it on eBay. I was at a Gun Store/ Pawn Shop and the had several of the "aircraft rivet guns". So, I guess you can also check out a Pawn Shop too.
@REDHORSECA ill probably try ebay for one also what was the process for registering the receiver tube or did u have that shipped to your ffl. i saw centerfiresystems(dot)com a suomi kit and it doesnt require an ffl so i dont know if it doesnt have the tube or if it just has to be registered after you cut the tube.
@mark16443 The STEN tube I used was an unfinished tube. Much less than 80% the of work was done to it and was not considered a firearm receiver , so it did not require an FFL. The unfinished STEN tube was legally shipped directly to me since it was not a firearm, and I did the machining to the tube to complete it as a firearm receiver.
@REDHORSECA so it doesnt need registered or anything submitted? cause if thats the case im suprised that building your own is allowed, does that go for all firearms then that you can make one and you dont have to register it? im assuming you can but u just cant sell it? idk ho sorry if im bothering you with all these questions lol
@lassoe Blue prints were pre-glued to the Tube that I purchased. I just cut along the lines and drilled out the holes. The Blue prints were specific to the semi-auto STEN bolt that I used. So, not all Blue prints will work in every case/build. You can find a couple different Blue Prints online, another place that may have them are the two popular STEN Yahoo! Groups IIRC.
@Bouzoukiellas Semi-auto receiver has the same outside dimensions, that way all the parts (magwell, trigger group, hand stop, slings, stocks) will slip right on, riveted, or welded.
The wall thickness of the semi-auto receiver tube is thicker than the FA receiver. The inside dimensions is smaller than the FA receiver. So the FA bolt will not fit, since it's too big to fit inside the semi-auto receiver and only the SA bolt will fit.
i dont even know how you make a open bolt gun semi auto but if you use these recievers you cant use the original full auto bolt. but all this 'reciever' is is a pipe with a paper glued to it lol
i been wanting to do it for a while. how much do u have in it after its all said and done. im goin to go ahead and pay the 200 tax stamp for my sterling and for the sten so they can be short.
I didn't use a bucking bar. The barrel would sort of acted as one, but the rivets weren't that long. The barrel trunnion is pretty thick. The factory typically installed the rivets the same way, then brazed the trunnion to help hold everything together. I haven't found it necessary to silver braze mine.
Yes, some have used screws. I used Allen head screws for the front trunnion, so that I could remove the barrel.
@REDHORSECA Hi, What size allen head screws did you use? I'm building my first sten mk3 from Ind Ord. So far it's been easy. Have you heard of anyone threading the barrel end to use a 3 lug adapter for a Advanced Armament can? What would be your thought on this? Thanks for your time. Great video!
Only a Class II manufacture can make a full auto firearm (post 1968).
A Civilian in some US states can purchase a full auto STEN after they get a CLEO signature, plenty of forms to fill out, finger prints, a background check with the BATF and tax stamp.
@nv707 you have to make your own reciever. as far as i know the ones they sell online are too small inside for the original bolt. so you would either make your own.
Nice build, i'm in Kalifornia too, and will soon be building a sten of my own. To bad the prices of the kits have gone way up. Lucky i saved my old sten mags that my wwII Vet neighbor gave me when i was a kid.
is that stainless steel ur using for the reciever ? and what grade of stainless would be sturdy enough to withstand the pressures involved ? ive heard of guys using water pipes and mild steel for gun parts but that doesnt seem very safe ..something that blows up in ur face isnt really worth owning
God bless America, a country where the common man can BUILD A FUCKING GUN! i want to build one of these in .45 ACP. is it possible to build a decent .45 cal barrel and make it so it can withstand the pressures of the gasses?
Yea, you could definitely build one for a .45. Receiver is more than strong enough, as the barrel is what takes all the pressure. A .45 would just require a heavier bolt and stronger recoil springs.
I'm thinking of building one from scratch (except for the barrel and mag) so can you make a detailed video of how the semi auto sear system works. I have a rough idea how it works but I'm not sure. If you can I sure would appreciate it.
It uses the original unmodified STEN sear in the trigger group. Sear engages the striker and holds it in place when the bolt cycles back after firing. Trigger draws the sear down, allowing the striker to strike the firing pin. Disconnector is the only part modified, to only work in semi-auto. Machined slot keeps disconnector in place for the bolt to trip every-time the bolt travels forward to chamber a fresh round. Disconnector resets sear to catch the striker after each firing.
I took the STEN out for the 2nd time last weekend without any issues. I didn't get to put too many rounds through it, as I was busy supervising newbie shooters that I had invited to the range. I didn't use any guide to build the STEN. The instructions that IO included with their kit did a good job of the build steps.
That's a mighty nice build! Good to see you're also a member of calguns. Did you have any issue witht he springs? It's said that the indianapolis sten kits are buggy. Did they fix the issue since 07? Did you use a guide? If so, from where? Sorry for all the Qs but thinking of doing a build myself:P. I watched your 1st shoot vid. You did a wonderful job!

I think I might go with a PPS41 parts kit.

There's a PDF somewhere on the web with the entire plan and drawings laid out in it, can't remember it's name or where to find it.
Keep in mind what Redhorseca said above however, as you will end up in some serious trouble if you don't sort the paperwork first.

Do you, by any chance, have any blueprints or dimension prints for this gun...??? And by the way, sweet piece of work.... Thumbs up...!!! :-)

how do you make it full auto?

That would make it illegal and a Federal crime.
