And honestly, I say It's worth it to pick one up. No, It's not going to keep you entertained forever or change your life. But It's a fun way to pass some time, and It's a great find for Nintendo collectors. Not worth whatever they charged back in '95, but I say get one if you've got the cash. :D

Yokoi quit. He and Nintendo had a falling out, as is common in Japanese video game companies (like Nobuo Uematsu and Square). To say it was Yokoi's fault the Virtual Boy was a failure would overlook Nintendo's history, as well as Sega's history even (just look at the Saturn-Dreamcast issue), and ignore all Yokoi did to make Nintendo what it is today. The Virtual Boy was a failure because Nintendo couldn't afford multiple development projects.

If you didn't see the 3D effects on the virtual, then get your eyes checked, because the stereoscopic effects were very good.

Leo Laporte has a condition where he can't see in 3D you may have the same problem.

The thing sucks batteries almost like a Gamegear, luckily, you can get an adaptor to play with a wallwart :P But I don't thiknk Nintendo sells them anymore...so it may be hard to come by. Love Wario, and Galactic Pinball, didn't care for the generic sports games or Mario Tennis (though Tennis does show the 3D ability of the system pretty well)

I thought he might have eye problems until I watched the second part.

The 3DS with have both 3D graphics and a 3D display, which will be much closer to what TolstoyKafkaEvsky was expecting.

It's portable because you can move it around just like a laptop, it's not meant to be used WHILE moving around - like a laptop.

The big problem the Virtual Boy had was depth perception. While it played ok with some games, like the tennis, other games were just a pain. There was that one flight game that used wire frames. In concept that looked ok, but not having any reflective surfaces made it a pain to try to play.

It wasn't Nintendo's idea. THEY hated this idea. Gunpei Yokoi wanted to create a 16-bit handheld,while Nintendo wanted to design a 32-bit console called "Atlanis" before Ultra 64. After Nintendo decided to stick with SNES for two more years, Yokoi retooled the handheld concept for VB and combined it with Atlanis. After VB failed, Nintendo treated Yokoi like an outcast before he stepped down disgracefully and died two years later in a hit-and-run accident.

The games failed too. Whereas 32X had poorly designed Genesis ports, Virtual Boy suffered from supbar SNES ports that were lame at best. Besides Wario Land, name two VB games that were worth playing.

Mario Clash was an awful remake of Mario Bros. and it had 100 levels so if you wanted to beat the game in one setting, you would risk going blind or having a seizure. Nester's Bowling got old very quickly and had NO replay value.

Wario Land is fun. Telero Boxer is fun, I think thats an exclusive, Panic Bomber was amazing, and Galactic Pinball is well...pinball. There was about 5 good exclusives for the Virtual Boy and 50% of the ports were good.
