I would think evolution decided not to give us 4 gametes because it would naturally select against that, being that the mother is most likely to die if she had 4 babys growing in her body at times where food was scarce ? or maybe it would kill her if she had for example 4 cells to develop into twins or triplets ! that would be fatal don't you think ?
@BillieBaby143 Meiosis does not occur after fertilization, mitosis however does... to replicate the cell and grow into a baby.... when the baby gets to maturation age (around 12) he will undergo meiosis
@alaazahra Meiosis in females does not complete till it meets the sperm. Technically it's not an ovum until then, it is considered a secondary oocyte. When the secondary oocyte is released from the ovary and meets sperm, meiosis II proceeds, AFTER fertilization... Crazy, I know...
i was sitting up here reading my hard as hell textbook and freaking out cause i didnt get a thing..so i thot what the heck,,,ill check out some thing on youtube..and i came across you

@alaazahra I don't think it would be that fetal. Twins are naturally occurring phenomenons. Women give birth to twins everyday.

Can you explain how meiosis occurs after fertilization? It's hard for me to grasp that concept for some reason.

"sadly being the mother" not the best thing to say =/ but helpful - make the diagrams in the books come to life and easier to follow through.
