WOW I can believe I am even sitting here and reading all these comments. If you really are an orthodox Jew you would NEVER come out with Lashon Hara against any one ESPECIALLY a Rabbi is backed by other big rabbis. Some wonder why it's wrong when people are just that way. There are many things we are born with that we need to overcome. Some people have a temper. It might be natural, but we still need to control it. True, homosexual urges are extremely hard to control, but the action wouldn't be forbidden if it's not possible to control. @KajexFiredrake I'm an orthojew,this guy distorts the true orthodox jewish approach from Talmudic times (like r levin). there is no consensus that earthquakes would be caused by gay marriage, and there are no less than 6 random opinions in a non-legal midrash (not halachic gemara) as to possibly why these events do occur (i.e. if we believe in an all-powerful G-d, why on earth would he ingrain such a wild and dangerous occurence to happen in nature, just create a world without tectonic plates).

I'm guessing the reason Judaism took such a tough stance on sexuality was to maximize the population (as you will recall, Abraham's own daughters committed incest to bootstrap the tribe), and also to distinguish themselves from the Greeks and Romans (and other prosperous city-states like Sodom, Gomorrah, and that other place G-d decided to spare) had the practice of f*cking the slaves and youth coming of age. This is very far removed from the SSM debate today.

Rabbi Wallerstein is way off-base to presume to know what G-d is doing. Pray tell, what was the cause of the Holacaust? What lesson do we learn from it? An interesting thought, in the countries that were the seat of orthodox Jewry (Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland) between 83% and 86% of the pre-war Jewish population were murdered. In Germany, the center of the Haskalah movement, 24%-25% of he pre-war Jewish population were killed. What lesson should we learn from that wise Rabbi.

Those chapters discuss God judgments in the form of physical and economic disasters. More and worse as YOU become more rebellious. They don't list every last disaster that God is capable of sending. The Old Testament is all about retribution, tough-justice, and a zillion arbitrary rules you can't even shake a stick at. @nosmopika You know, it always makes me giggle when I hear super-orthodox Jews say things in Hebrew and then English as if the Hebrew mandates more reverence, even when most of them (and nearly all of their audience) cannot speak or understand it in day-to-day speech.
