as far as mid priced AB style "old school" amps I'd pit a Crest CA-18 against the MA series anyday...the 20-20khz spec (at rated power) and power supply are far cleaner with the Crest
I have one of these. I push either 4 McCauley 6174's or 4 sonic 18W's depending on the venue. This amp is great. Can't beat it for the price. It's runs class AB+B which means it's linear (like the MA5000) up to the point where it can't draw anymore from the wall. The MA5000 is pure AB so it's linear all the way to max output. The difference is the MA5000 will drive crazy loads (like poorly designed horns, or vented boxes missing port tubes) and it will also be more stable at very low impedances.
I'm running two EAW Fr250z. With the xls5000 at four Ohms per side. As the bass player in our band, I've never heard anything so huge and controlled. Most larger speakers run at 4 ohms. I'm not sure how they get that much power from a 20 amp fuse. Make sure you've got a heavey duty case the amp weighs.
Why do manufacturers never talk about what an amp puts out at 8 ohms, when most speaker cabinets are 8 ohms! Must be the like spitting out big numbers!
How much ???
