  • UR old!

  • @triplet5266 sweetie, when you get old you'll get your fair share of rude comments thrown back at you. karma will be a bitch.

  • Ah, I love the idea of a retractable brush for same bag travel - perfect! As for the non-sponge usage comment, doesn't using a brush on your face pick up the oils and transfer them back into the compact the next time you use it too, or is it OK because it is such a light sweep rather than a wipe/drag?

  • I see what you're saying about the oils going into the compact from the sponge, but you have to remember that 9 times out of 10 your face is clean before you apply your makeup. At least I hope this is the case for women. So you are applying it to a clean surface. PB makes really great points about the brushes. I'm kind of like her in that was as well. I'm a germaphobe. lol

  • my comment was for roundgecko btw...not in reply to what PB had to say. I totally agree with PB.

  • thanks for the tips! I got lots of wicked Maybelline makeup from 'gratis makeup samples' they'll last me ages!

  • she makes it look so natural... but what she really wants is for you to buy that brush....

just wash your face,, wash your brushes or sponge..

  • u have too much blush... :) ur pretty even without make up... :D

  • E.L.F. Has makeup bags where there's a compartment specifically for makeup and specifically for brushes! And they run really cheap!

  • thanks for that tip! never really thought about that but now it makes sense!

  • I hate people use sponges that are so old and brown, when you pull it and will break YUK!!! more pimples

  • Cool video pursebuzz! Still excited about the monthly give away haha. Im going to target today, like the higlight of my day =) have a great day!

  • you should wash your brushes regularly.. like every other day for sure

  • wat if oil gets on the brush

  • Comment removed

  • you wash brushes..

  • u can wash the sponge as well, can u?

  • not very many times before it loses its quality

  • i don't leave any personal items that go on my body (any part) on bare surfaces (even mine).i let my brushes hang off the ledge or put them back in brush container.if in public surfaces,i layer w/ clean tissue: freshly packed, not yet exposed).every few weeks,i clean my brushes and container w/ baby shampoo.you can also actually get away w/ sponges if you wash them.baby shampoo contains no harmful chemicals so your essentials last longer and don't deteriorate.make sure hands are

  • ooooooooomg where was i when u mad this video... thank u so much for making this.i am very anal about my brushes and letting people know how to refrain from bacteria is important. may i please put this video on my blog for other people to see?

  • yes please do :) spread the word xox PB

  • where should i store my brushes that stay at home? Would a circular container be suitable?

  • What would you suggest for applying *liquid* foundation? After watching this particular video I've realized that using the same foam pad a lot is probably the reason why I break out so much (have only had 1 day of clear skin in 10 yrs)... using a new one each time seems so wasteful, though. :\

  • OMG i love this video! i usually think about minor details && idk how that flew past me. i guess it`s the whole not knowing better, like when i was growing up i saw people using brushes && thought it was weird now i see the sponges && i`m like omg how did i EVER do that! veryyyy good idea for this video!

  • thanks!!!

    you're so cute

  • WOW thankyou im 14 and i think thats why i get anche ,when im using spotcream aswell,

    thanks xx

  • thanks for the tip!

i think putting the brush in a ziplock bag and putting in the make up bag work too and of course replace the ziplock bag b/c you don't want all the germs to grow in it lol.

  • wow! i never thought of that thank u so much

  • i always put my blush brush in a little plastic baggy so nothing gets on it

  • ohh never thought of that!thanks for the tip!=]

  • how do you wash a brush? with water? because id think thad ruin the bristles...?

  • @bububutterly: soap & water should be just fine - I'm an artist who paints in oil and that is what I use to clean my brushes... I don't think makeup would be any different to clean out of the brushes and it won't damage the bristles as long as the brush isn't smashed out of shape. Just load the brush up with water, rub in liquid soap (dish detergent works good too) and gently work it up into a lather, rinsing often.

  • thankyou ladytalon! :)

ps i love painting too! im doing acrylic work right now :)

  • i recommend baby shampoo also.

i usually just use normal shampoo though.

  • thanks so much for this could you do a video on what you have in your purse please because i dont no what i need in my purse because i carry around everything and dont end up needing it all

  • Never thought about this! Great tip. :)

  • i never thought of this, but shes right! my aunt is a dermatoligist, and i asked her about this, and she agreed!

  • great explanation pursebuzz!! glad someone finally addressed this issue!

  • wow does the sponge applicator also apply to the eyeshadow sponge applicator as well why is it that ppl prefer a brush rather than a sponge applicator??

  • A brush sometimes is softer than the sponge-tip applicator (therefore it's more gentle on your eye) and may be able to pick up more product. Product might be able to distribute better & more smoothly without fallouts if the brush is good.

  • the brush is still going to carry bacteria!! unless you wash them constantly...seriously i wash them after every use. and but i use cosmetic wedges for concelar and my foundation. So yeah girls wash your brushes[if you haven't lol]

  • yeah! but then each swipe would carry bacteria right? so what do u do? Like wash after every swipe?

  • Well if the powder was already contaminated with bacteria it yeah. I use cosmetic wedges and then I buff and distribute the foundation evenly with a brush. After that I wash the brush so it is ready for when I need it again.

  • that stuff is oil in my compact?! i just cringed......that's my whole comment because now i have to tell my mom. : ) i'm serious though......thanks pursebuzz!!

  • sooo...i keep my brushes in a seperate bag, am i ok?? xDD

  • That's what I do.

  • WOW!thanks info u gave i didn't know.i will stop doing that

  • thanks for the tip. i never really knew that before and my cheeks were always breaking out. so i tossed my old blush brush and have gotten a new one, and i can already see a difference in my skin. it's definitely clearing up which i'm super excited about because i've been struggling with acne for so long :)

  • actually... there's cheap retractable brushes from ulta.. some of them cost like 3-5 bucks.. kabuki ones cost like 10 bucks somewhere.. u guys might wanna check that out~

  • I totally get what you mean. Right when you first mentioned putting the brushes in the same bag, I knew what you were gonna talk about. My favorite was at the end when you said "please please please take care of your face shpeel". But I must say, I totally agree.

  • nice tips...tnx..

  • TIP FOR THOSE OF US THAT CAN'T BUY A NEW RETRACTABLE BRUSH! : Stick your fav brush in a plastic zip bag! I know it's kinda "ghetto" but it works! I'd rather have people lookin at me for pulling a ziplock bag out of my purse than have zits all over my face! yuck!

  • How would a brush be cleaner than a sponge? They should be nasty the same :/

  • because the brush is a bristle brush that doesnt claud up..like the sponge it just keeps collecting and stacking up germs..like u know ur skin is oily the spong sucks up ur oil and than u dabb it in the powder and it creates the chunks on it..think like as when u mix water with flour..u get those chunks and it hardens after a while..dats y a brush is better and cleaner..

  • You can wash the brush.

  • This is your funniest video! But it's so true, and I can really relate because I'm also very aware of germs! You're so sweet. Keep up the great work!

  • pursebuzz is trying to say that it is important to be hygenic with makeup n the tools. its for makeup users' benefit as well.

  • okay..wow... haha

  • STARVING CHILDREN IN AFRICA HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS TUTORIAL LOL.?

whyy are you even talkign about this in a MAKEUP tutorial.

    OMG.. dude like seriously ??!?

  • yeah i know :S its gross (i think so) and see people like drop their eyeshadow on the floor and then pick it up and put it in their bag.. that.. yucky xDD

  • Wow thanks!! I hadn't even thought of that!! Thank you thank you thank you!!

  • hahha your so funny

  • how much is the brush thingy????

  • wow! after that i'm gonna throw my sponge and get a retractable brush. heheh!! better safe than sorry!! thanks for the tip!!

  • Very good tip i loved it and you look so sweet....

  • lol i knew about this but never really cared, ill definitely keep that in mind xD

  • omg your SO right!!! i'll never NEVER do it again

  • thanks for the tips. you look really cute here!

  • I looove your tips!! Yous said things i never thought of before o.O

  • OMG eee. I have been using the same make-up brush for about 5 years and i've never washed it. How vile. However, i've never ever had a break out, ever. I've never even had a spot that i could pop.

I did have a retractable brush but got a bit drunk and lost the lid.

  • what brand of frames do you have? they are really cute!

  • was wondering if the brush takes up the oil as well.. if not it ld be just the same as the flocked sponge..

    thanks for the tip though!

  • I think I love you!

haha no but seriously your tips are great! Things that I've never thought of & at the same time, you're sharing all of these thoughts most people dont care to tell others. Thanks :)

  • good tip! i keep the brush in the same box, but since i have a professional makeup box/carrier, i have a special section just for brushes where they dont touch the other cosmetics :D

  • that stuff is so true it's not even funny

  • if anyone lives in the uk, body care has the same retractable brush for something like £1.99 i have it :)

i hate it when people put their brushes in there makeup bags too, i sometimes use a different smaller bag to put my brushes in then shove that in my handbag too! :)

    thanks

  • i'm in the uk thats really helpful i'll go buy one!! x

  • thanks for this tip. its so true!!!

  • omg, i have never thought about that. thanks! (:

  • mark and coastal scents have retractable brushes that are sooooo much cheaper!

  • which retractable brush from cs would you recommend? :)

  • I'm like that too, it's the same with other things such as bars of soap especially in public places, I see people wipe the soap on there hands, put it on the side then rinse there hands. All the bacteria is on the soap and not being washed off. But anyway, a bit ocd of me but I see where you're coming from that's my point. :) Keep up the great vids!

  • great video!

what blush are you wearing in this video?

  • what lipgloss are you wearing in this vid?

  • What about the retractable brush...if your face is oily wouldn't it be the same as using the sponge in the compact. Couldn't bacteria grow on the brush itself inside the container itself. How would u go about cleaning a retractable brush plus the inside of the container as well when the brush is closed???

  • if you wash the brush, the inside wont get oily.

    common sense things.

  • true however...how often do you have a travel size brush cleaner with you? And on top of that how often do you clean your retractable brushes...honestly retractable brushes would allow me to forget to clean them especially since they are for travel purposes.

  • @pinkmacprincess Well.. I hope you clean your brushes O.o... Any face brush that I use on my face ONCE, I wash it right after, rarely would I with the same face brush twice.

  • @pinkmacprincess Bacteria need moisture to grow.

    So , No.

  • Hi, im learning so much from u! thank u for the info.

  • Gross! I never thought about this! I just got done throwing away my sponges. And I am planning on investing in a retractable brush. :)

  • ew i never thought about thiss...yuck

  • your blush looks great! what kind is it?

  • You know what, you are amazing!!

I have been breaking out, the first time I started using mineral powder makeup that requires me to do touch ups with the brush.

And it was probably so harmful for my skin because of the fact that the brush got dirty!!

I am certainly going to buy the retractable brush! :D

  • That is such a great tip. I'm going to invest into a good retractable face brush. All the compact sponges and puffs are trash, after watching this.

  • u are soo funni and cute thanks for the tip now i totally want one too

  • omg. i din't even think about stuff like that... eww. thank god for all these makeup videos!

  • aww thanks for letting us know cuz i've broken out before and i thot it was because i was using heavy makeup lol...this tip really helped!

  • I found a retractible brush at shoppers for a very nice price and it looks like stila's but you have to pull it out, FYI shoppers only in Canada if any Canadians are watching hint hint ^^

  • brushes don't pick up face oils like sponges?

  • I guess they don't as much...I use the sponge all the time...bit I have pretty durable skin (I hardly hever take my makeup off besides if I have eyeshadow on and I still don't break out)

But the brush dosn't get it on that well...so it's not much covereage...the only time I use concealer with a brush is I have a compact I use with podwer and I dip my blush brush in to maybe tone my blush down a little, but otherwise I use the sponge

  • you are sooo lucky. :) Envy !!!

  • well you can always clean your brushes right?

its much more better to use brushes[:

    love love love your videooo!<!♥3

  • man THANK YOU! that really made me think lol

    your so awesom!

  • Thank you so much for this tip!

In high school I always thought you were supposed to use the sponge in the compact, but then I started breaking out and I had to stop using the powder. (greasy looking face ICK)

Thank you again for the tip! I can't wait to tell my friends!

  • haha i totally know how you feel i know girls who do the same and when i tell them they still complain about their pimples its like they never heard me in the first place, but yeah i usually just wipe the powder with tissue and i always wash my brushes :)

  • thank you so much, im going to throw some stuff away RIGHT NOW lol

  • Too Faced makes a great retractable kabuki brush. I love that thing. It's super soft and the package is cute and pink. Definitely worth the money!

  • oh god you're SO right! i started wearing make up 2 years ago and i just didnt think about cleaning my brush or anything (i used the same brush over and over for one year without even cleaning it!). i ALWAYS broke out so i used even more product.

i used some H&M powder, uh i know right, and it got soo dirty, there were little brown thingy on it eww. i think i still have it, ha...

  • there's a retractable brush at ulta for $14

  • Thanks for the tip!

Also sometimes I've seen girls using those lip balm where you have to use your finger. Well I've seen girls in class picking up their binders/pencil/books from the floor and then they took their lip balm and used their finger and dab it on their lips...it's like they wipe the floor with their finger, mix it with the lip balm, and dab it on their lips. gross!

  • i have the same germophobe thoughts as your. i create these ideas in my head that my brushes are getting infested with bacteria from being in my bag. so i actually wrap my brushes up with tissue paper before putting in my bag lol! sometimes they fall off so i think im going to try the retractable brush idea! thanks!

  • wow i nevah knew dat wow

  • OMG U R SO RIGHT ABOUT THE BRUSHES

  • thank you so much pursebuzz!

  • germaphobe perhaps? ;P I agree with the sponge part.. but if your dropping your brushes on the ground in public bathrooms etc in the first place then I think that should be your first concern lol

  • they have it at sephora too

  • oh, eww. thank you for pointing that out and giving this tip! good thing i dont like using sponges.

  • omg i have the same pet peeve as u lol. I hate the idea of putting my brushes into my bag. What I do is I end up wrapping my brushes with tissues and then I put it into my bag. Lol..

  • how much does the retractable brush cost?

  • Another solution is to put your brushes into a ziplock bag first and then put them into your makeup bag. The "powder puff" thing has long been a source of frustration for me. Another idea, recently I purchased a traveling brush set. It's in a small zipup case and comes with 5 brushes so there's more selection available. Thanks for getting this off my chest by doing this video. I could tell at the end you were relieved. Me too.

  • :0) haha What a cute kit!

  • hi there, i just luv ur videos, they are so imformative especially for a makeup junkie like me..lol.. I was just wondering what glasses u r wearing here, they are gorgeous..xx

  • whoa great tip i never thought of that...thanks

  • yes you are right, one side is orange and the other side is pink

  • Great tip! Thanks!

  • I love your video. This is so weird you know. I was gonna run out to buy a retractable brush after watching this video(even though I barely wear powder). Then when I went to YSL to get the latest collection I got a free retractable powder brush. How freaky is that?

  • haha i think like you! people say i'm paranoid!

  • "Yeah, La-di-Da!"

    You are too cute!!

  • excellent idea :) and...ew..: P

  • Eww I never thought of that. No wonder I used to break out a lot in high school. What do you use to clean your brushes?

  • oh my. right after this video, i totally ran to my purse & put my brushes in a seperate bag. thanks pursebuzz! :]

  • Mary Kay has a brush like that too. I have one from a few years ago. Looks just like that. hha only Mary Kay thing I use now.

  • EEWW! I never thought about the brushes! I never take makeup anywhere with me so im glad I dont do it! hehe. As far as the sponge, I dont like using brushes to put my founation on, so I just buy a big bag of the spongies and throw them away after every use. The baggies are like a $1 for like what...a 100:) hehe.

  • I used to do this too but then I saw how much foundation I was wasting by using sponges. When you put the make up on the sponge it absorbs a lot of it. Now I put the foundation on the back of my hand and use a brush and it takes twice as long for the bottle to run out. It may take longer in the morning and some getting used to but it's worth it because you save a lot of money in the long run!

  • enlightening!

  • i love this video.

where did you get your glasses? they're hot!

  • I have the same petpeve but the worst one i have is when people share face brushes or mascara well make up in general.

  • lol...you're so cute when you say "it's so gross"

  • I think you broke out as a teenager because of the pubescent hormones, and not because of the brush/make-up.

  • while hormones play a huge part they are not the only factor in breakouts. My acne was so much worse when i was a teen because i was not responsible with my makeup habits.

  • i like the stile retractable. but i like using my big posh kabuki brush with it's case =]

  • don't you still need to wash the brushes periodically?

  • I clean my brushes after I use them. :-)

  • Thank you so much! Cause I always put my brush in the my purse along with everything else. Now i'ma get the retractable brush or put my brush in another bagg! I was wondering why i was breaking out so much.

  • oh....wow...i would have never thought of brushes that way lol! good job

  • Too Faced has an awesome retractable brush, love that one.

  • I thought i was the only one who cringed about that.

  • how do you wash the retractable brush anyways?

please teach me before I buy them...

  • Thnxs! :)

  • where did buy ur stila brushes?

  • Sephora , stila and ulta

  • thanks for scaring us pursebuzz. haha jk. I carry a mini travel brush kit with me that comes in its own travel case. and then i put that in my bag. thanks for the vids!

  • haha.. . well someone gotta do it :P

  • Oh my goodness. I am the same way towards germs and bacteria too. Haha! Your so funny.

  • Do you have any tips about keeping eye shadow brushes clean?

  • thanks for the tip! I need to buy a new brush since I always put my brush in my make up bag :|

  • that is true I did notice that since I started to apply make up with a brush I had less break outs

  • Pressed powder from Aloette already comes with a brush. Not the best one but its not a sponge!

  • OMG thank you soo much i used to use alot of powder and never new what that stuff on top was, thank you im going to sort through my make up now n throw old stuff away, and get new make up bags!!!

  • what about poor high-school kids? i know i cant afford a 25-dollar brush :(

  • Try Ulta Target and Walmart most brands make it :)

  • Thanks!! even though i dont live near any ultas... or sephoras... *grrrr*

  • Sonia Kashuk - Target

  • do you know of any retractable brushes that are cheap?

  • i think sonia kashuk (for target) makes some :)

  • Sonia Kashuk - Target

  • I highly recommend the Too Face retractable Teddy Bear Kabuki brush! It's 28 dollars, it's expensive, but let me tell you, it's worth EVERY penny! It's really soft and applies my powder when I need a retouch evenly and smooth. (:

  • ew, i'd never thought of this before!

i'm getting onw of those brushes!

thanks a lot for the advise!

  • I have a problem with my blush....I do not know what i am doing wrong but it never lasts!

any tips on that! Thanks for the grt tips!

  • GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE, TOTALLY! I feel the same about contamination. Coincidentally, I just received my Stila brush 31 yesterday in the mail! However, mine has a pointy tip for under eye area.

  • My god I never knew that! Maybe I'll have less break outs in the future!

  • Are we advertising for stila now lol

  • its all goooooood

  • you're so cute!! i need to get one of those retractable brushes. do they have retractable brushes for eyeshadow brushes? i need one of those instead of the powder ones.

  • So I'm guessing this probably goes the same for makeup boxes (with no compartments), too? Damn...Thanks for the info!
