  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCE

  • @PBANDSNOW Ok that says it all. I can respect Eric Singer (See Alice Cooper's "Brutally Live") because he had his own reputation, but that's just sad. At least Singer had a career to acknowledge before he joined KISS.

Tommy Thayer's History: Black N Blue

Eric Singer's History: Alice Cooper, Lita Ford, Black Sabbath, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer Project

  • ace is god

  • lol horrible

  • BAD ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • This was probably the best Kiss performance I've ever seen. They are not super talented but they all have their own thing going on. Ace definitely created a signature vibrato. They were hungry in this videoand I enjoyed it.

  • ANY KISS is AWESOME KISS!!

  • Best KISS performance EVER on video!

  • Saw them In KC Dynasty Tour With Judas Preist! The best ever!

  • god bless ACE

  • Killer performance Tap dancing on the fretboard pre Eddie

  • I gotta hand it to Ace he was on his "A" game with this solo. Phrasing, tone, everything was on point..as usual!!

  • wow, just happened on this video while on you tube ... brought back many fond memories. saw them in 1974 opening for the james gang in long beach ca. me and my buds would air guitar to kiss all night. great band

  • ace and peter and the rest of kiss here were fantastic...ace and peter in the later years fell off the wagon,,,what tommy and eric bring kiss today is this musicianship in present day,,i have seen at least 5 shows with the current line up...it sounds like this ,,,flawless ...give kiss a chance and see them with tommy and eric ,,you won't be disapointed ,,especially music wise.

  • KISS were at their peak here. They had other peaks and valleys later, but this is the best footage ever of the band of heroes. Every kid in America was glued to the TV, when this came on. My mom was in NOW, and she HATED this band so much ESPECIALLY Gene Simmons. KISS was banned from the TV in our house. This of course made me love KISS even more. Name one band before or since that has matched KISS' stage show or energy and enthusiasm. They may not be King Crimson, but who cares?

  • Ace does the "finger" tapping with a pick, EVH with his fingers, thats the difference!

  • Never been much of a KISS fan, but this is a solid performance. I think this is back when they were still hungry and actually cared about musicianship. It was all pretty much downhill after this. They became the K-Mart of music acts.

  • @c0deMunkey Actually Walmart! KISS soldout ages ago...yup but all the bastards followed suit and did the exact same thing!

  • How the hell are they not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

  • Killer performance!!! You can feel the intensity and see the desire...awesome stuff

  • THE FINGER TAPPING.......GO WATCH "THE RAIN SONG" FROM THE MOVIE "THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME" BY LED ZEPPELIN FROM 1973!.

PAGE DOES A LITTLE BIT OF FINGER TAPPING AT THE END OF THE SONG. ALSO, HENDRIX DID IT A FEW TIMES IN THE 60'S.

THIS MIDNIGHT SPECIAL PERFORMANCE WAS APRIL FOOLS' DAY 1975. IT'S DURING THE "HOTTER THAN HELL" TOUR.

  • was this really april of 1974? Ace is doing finger tapping (see it at 5:50) but that finger tapping style has always been credited to Eddie Van Halen. What am I missing here.......

  • @717mienbao thats what i was thinking! i thought nobody was doing finger tapping until evh. maybe he got it from ace then.

  • @717mienbao think about gene simmions found van halen

  • @717mienbao EVH perfected what some were doing as tricks. Many did it. Look at Roger Fisher of Heart. He was doing that and tap harmonics as well. EVH was just in a league of his own for a while. But as time goes on, someone adds something to make it new again. Look at alternate tunings (see Jimmy Page) it was dabbled in throughout the 70's, but came into vogue again and went even further. That's why most guitarist will say do your homework on the classics. You'll find it in it's rawest form.

  • Ace has no idea how good he really is.

  • Head banging freakin' music!

  • @stephenjones102 FUCK YEAH!

  • It's all about the music: A+

  • People can say what they want about Kiss & their music but on a good night Kiss could blow even the best band right off the fucking stage...

  • Well Kiss blew the socks off everybody with that performance & Ace's solo just made it that much better... probably one of the best Midnight Special acts I've ever scene...

  • They are not kicking ass 2011. This is the real & only Kiss-The original line up in their prime. They need to give it up. Maybe I'm an older generation fan who saw them in 77 on the Love Gun tour & nothing will compare. The 70's years are far & above beyond anyhting else that came after.

  • @mikens1 I hate you. :[

  • @mikens1

Yeah kinda agree. They're old and mold. If Gene tried getting on the floor now he might pull his back out getting up! And the yeahhh would be followed by a couple coughs.

  • @mikens1 Me too. I actually saw them from 1974 - 77. They were never good musicians, but wrote great songs and had a great stage show. Now they are a joke.

  • GO ACE...........................SMOKING HOT!

  • @richluvsellie: Your are so fuking right!

  • man its amazing kiss playing here 1975 and and still kicking ass 2011, only kiss could pull that off

  • @jay032974 You are correct sir! I can easily live with that, if in fact it was recognition of inspiration and respect to the previous in succession. Very subtle and classic way to pay homage. Thanks for the heads up! Peace!

  • @ thatguyfromImpanema, you're right Pearl Jam (Mike McCready specificly!) ripped off Ace's solo but did you know that Ace ripped that solo off of Robby Krieger, from The Doors song "Five To One" in 1968 (from the album "Waiting For The Sun") Check it out! It was such a good solo it's been used 3 times in rock history!

  • Ace Frehley blows away Tommy (copycat) Thayer!!

  • @guitarace1965 I agree 100% although Eric Singer is the true copyCAT

  • @guitarace1965 Ace may be the god, but let's not disrepect Tommy. He isn't a copycat. If you believe otherwise, London's Burning for you! Oh wait, are you familiar with the reference?

  • @RockNEHouseNHipHop All Clash references aside, Thayer is a copycat, and Ace agrees. He punched Thayer in the face more than once because of it.

  • @PBANDSNOW You know, the more I get these comments, the more I think about it more. And I mean it in a bad way. Maybe you folks are right.

  • @RockNEHouseNHipHop I;\’m sorry about that. I’ve been in these situations too, where you write something and people keep responding even though you get like, ten a day, but he is a copycat. In 2004, Ace was running late to a show because of medical problems. He managed to get to the stadium less than an hour before the show started to find Thayer wearing ACE’s costume, ACE’s makeup, and ACE’s guitar. And best of all, the rest of the group thought Ace would make it, Tommy hoped he wouldn’t

  • Pearl Jam rips off Ace's solo @ 3:17 for their track "Alive" 's solo @ 3:28... look it up. Don't know if it was meant as a tribute to KISS but I remember being PISSED OFF the first time I heard it back in the early 90's. Being a KISS fan for so long that solo popped right out as soon as I heard it. Whats the story on that? or am I the only one that hears it ??

  • @thatguyfromImpanema you're right Pearl Jam (Mike McCready specificly!) ripped off Ace's solo but did you know that Ace ripped that solo off of Robby Krieger, from The Doors song "Five To One" in 1968 (from the album "Waiting For The Sun") Check it out! It was such a good solo it's been used 3 times in rock history!

  • I remember watching the airing of the show. I was 11 and would sneak into the livingroom hours after everyone was asleep. I would stay up whenever KISS was schedualed to be on and get caught for having the volume too loud. Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on NBC @ about 1 or 2am would get my ass kicked as well. But KISS had me by the SOUL back then. Watching these vintage clips reminds me why all over again! Seen them at CAL-JAM Angel Stadium,Anaheim, Calif. Thanks for the post! Long Live KISS

  • ACE IS THE MAN

  • If KISS would of kept a little of this energy and not done the Disco shit, they would of ruled the 80's too. Instead they went with the flow and lost alot of fans!!

  • Wow! It still gives me butterflies and a puts a big ol smile on my face =D

    Thanks for sharing!

  • whats with the stripper boots/shoes?

the act is not about the sound, if it was - then they would be a 2nd rate band.

the show is so dated with [the over the top] look that the 70's did to gain attention.

-------------"vaudeville with a facelift" i call it...

  • When metal was heavy and Kiss was Kiss!

  • The 'raw' look and sound they had back then was KISS---First concert I ever went to --->'77 NYC Madison Square Garden!

  • Now thats a show!

  • They looked like they were having a lot of fun making the "vroom" slide sound ... :)

  • I saw them in 73 at the Lakeland Civic Center in Florida. Of all the shows I've seen after, I can't think of one that topped it.

  • @debiegibsonfan

Just so YOU know -- I have EVERYTHING KISS has ever done. After KISS' "Dressed to Kill", Ace Frehley NEVER played the lead guitar the same way again. Now, you can admit to it either being a loss of ability, laziness or drugs. Or, simply deny the cold, hard facts.

  • Best ever, so heavy!

    KISS ARMY Forever!

  • Ace rules !!!!

  • WHAT A KICK ASS PERFORMANCE!!!!! WOW!!!!! KISS! KISS! KISS!

  • Wow. Ace was a fucking beast there!

And a little pre-Van Halen tapping thrown in. Wonder how history would be different if Ace had really developed the two hand thing a little more at that time in KISS's career.

Bands are so much better when they're still straving and have a chip on their collective shoulders.

  • @spunkybrewster1972 Ace is a fucking beast indeed! And he was tapping before Eddie, there's a show on KISSOLOGY vol.3 that's taken from 1973, where Ace is tapping. I guess he came with but didn't took it "as far" (doing it too much?) as Eddie did, which is probably why history helds Eddie as the "creator" of two-handed tapping. Don't get me wrong, soem of Eddie's work is truly amazing (I mean those first 3 Van Halen albums are pure magic). But Ace has such a kickass tone.. :D

  • My speakers wont get any louder!!!

  • i like the mthr fkin ampegs!!!

  • ACE FREHLEY IS GOD!!!!

  • Before there was "super kiss" there was DANGEROUS KISS! This Clip serious RnR HISTORY. 1975....fuuuckkkk!!! go ACE!

  • kiss in there heyday great song

in my opinion the kiss touring today is nothing really

if there going to get people to replace Ace and Peter at least have the dignity to use different makeup

and gene wtf always putting down Peter and Ace sure looks like in this video around 6:24 he sure doesnt look like hes thinkin ace is so bad

one lil thing i gotta say Mick Jagger and Keith Richards left the stones would they get lookalikes or what

  • Acid rock was a pure form of heavy metal and from 1973 to 1975, KISS had a sound like no other like most every rock band of that era. Todays music is garbage with few exeptions! HAIL KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @METALIZE1

i grew up with acid rock and heavy metal and acid rock is not in any way shape or form heavy metal

bands like the original black sabbath judas priest or led zep are far from acid rock

bands like yes pink floyd and Genesis are acid rock

now kiss was hard rock maybe even heavey metal but i can say they were also glam rock also

  • Strip away the makeup and costumes. Strip away the flames, drum risers, and blood. Strip away Gene's ego and Paul and Gene's love of money. Strip away Gene and Paul's attempt to re-write KISStory by bad mouthing Ace's abilities and contributions. At the core of what made KISS great are some great songs and ACE'S AWESOME GUITAR PLAYING. Anyone who thinks EVH came up with the tapping on his own needs to see the end of this video. Why isn't Ace ever given proper credit in rock circles?

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • ¡ este es el verdadero KISS ! gracias CrazyNights14

  • this show is a great show but it would be stupid if they put artist from today in it.

  • The old man took me to my first KISS show,I think he was in his 50's. He was not a fan of my generations music but standing in the shadows even he said they gave you a great show. Love'em or hate'em,they get your attention.

  • I wonder if Gene ever watches these old clips and regrets what his ego & greed destroyed. Kiss in the 70's were amazing.

  • This footage is a revolutionary and important as the beatles on ed sullivan. Ace lead the way.

  • this is badass! Viva Rock and Roll!

  • Now that is a lot more exciting than watching 4 guys on stage who need a shave. Go KISS. And go Ace!

  • The Anthrax cover of this song is awesome, too.

  • You almost forget how bad ass they were at one time. dangerous and vulgar. love it !!

  • 2 hand tapping? omg Eddie V didn't invent that LOL

  • Now this......is KISS....Gene,Peter,Paul, and Ace.

Greatest rock band of all time.

  • what guitar is paul using!?

  • @AOTTGvideos Gibson L6s also known as the Midnight Special

  • ACE FREHLEY is the BEST !

    better than angus young.

    Without ACE ...Kiss is nothing

  • you guys have to be kidding...Kiss at this era is not heavy metal at all,Kiss was really close to heavy metal in the 80's during the non-makeup era,but anyway Kiss has always been clasified as a Glam Metal/Hard Rock band

  • @The Spaceman 77 Most of the bands later classified as Heavy Metal like AC/DC were introduced by KISS as opening acts.

  • I met Ace in real life last year in NYC. The best 10 minutes of my life.!!

  • I second that! ACE just rocks! KISS ROCKS!!!!! This was KISS at their very best!!!!

  • Ace killed that shit, epic

  • @ChickenFriedHamMan No one played guitar like that until Ace came along. Then he was copied by others like Eddie Van Halen.

  • notice ace doesnt use a sissie bar why cause he can

  • Boy Howdy does that bring back some memories. That kids is exactly what a Marshall and Les Paul are supposed to sound like. 100% vacuum tube yumminess.

  • Damned! Ace is a hottest guitarist in the world!

  • ace has the coolist guitar runs.unique and the sound of kiss.

  • metal? KISS was and has always been hard rock. they competed with Aerosmith - another hard rock band. you're the fool for not being able to tell the difference.

  • @StephanieHammack Heavy Metal originated in the latter 60s and early 70s. The metal of now is not the same as the metal of back then, but only because it has changed. Stephanie, don't be mistaken, KISS was Heavy Metal, the metal now is just evolved to something else, so it can't even be compared.

  • @tyRONasaur

So, you're saying Aerosmith was heavy metal as they were the big name competitor of KISS at that time? Both have been listed in the same genre since their creation.

Heavy Metal was quite healthy in the form of bands like The Rods, Deep Purple and many others.

On the other hand, when Ace was at his prime during the KISS, Hotter than hell and Dressed to kill "era", I MIGHT concur. But, either Ace got lazy or he simply lost it because he was and has never the same lead guitarist aftr

  • he IS here. something happened between Dressed to Kill and Destroyer, tho because, from Destroyer on, he wasn't the same.

  • @StephanieHammack

Excuse me?....have you ever heard of "Shock Me", "Rocket Ride" or Ace's solo album?.....he didn't 'lose' anything after '75.....don't give me any of what you're smoking.

  • peter was awesome!! a monster!

  • OH! KICK IT ACE!!!

  • Space Ace rules!!

  • i can see where ed got bits of his early solo

  • Still stands the test of time, rockin' good stuff!!!!

  • Ace plays pure funk here. Very funky here.

  • This is the real sonic boom! Listen to Ace Frehley' solo! Great!

  • This was a spaceship back in time! One thing I will say is that they were master at entertaining the fans and giving them what they wanted. Just think back at that time period...it must have been mind blowing to experience that performance, to see them at there best. I was only 4yrs old but I remember the excitement of seeing KISS on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special on primetime TV. Forever bonding KISS with Halloween and making allot of kids fans in 1976! I was one of them!!!

  • I want a time machine :(

  • @SpicyTaco29 who doesn't want a time machine i think everyone does

  • @SpicyTaco29 I SECOND THAT ST!!!

I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS 5 years old and listinening to these guys. I was like hypnotized in front of the huge speakers at home. My aunt said to me "what have these creeps done to you!"lol

    i was laughing like crazy.

  • ACE !!!!!!! WOW !!!!!!

  • So much fun to watch!

  • Kiss was so awesome! Pure basic traditional rock n roll at it's best!

  • AW-RIGHT!

    AW-EH!

  • holy moly that climax gave me goosebumps LOL! (no Lie, and Ive listened to KISS for 35+ years!!)

  • Great clip!!! I've never seen this one before. You rock, thanks for sharing!!!

  • Love the sound of Peters open concert toms!!

  • i was 3 years old and my Parents would wake me or let me stay up to watch Kiss. Never looked back since

  • KISS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ace is the man! Did not know he was tapping before EVH. See 5:50. Of course there was a tap in All Right Now by Free in 1970, albeit a harmonic tap.

  • @pixelvisions That is remarkable. I didnt know that either!

  • People who don't know shit say it was the make up that made Kiss so big. No, it was Ace Frehley's guitar playing. The costumes and fireworks were just bonuses to some really great music that involved phenomenal guitar. Ace knew how to make the guitar sound extremely good.

  • watching kiss in their metal 70`s days gives me a hard on. is that wrong ? if so i `ll pay to be wrong. fuck real kiss was epic !!!

  • Well said bro. some of these idiots like to play monday morning quarterback and ignore the fact that BACK IN THE 1970`S they were a METAL band end of story. i love how people that were not even born than like to tell you how people thought about things.

  • yes ace did tap. maybe not as much as evh but he did..and benji1165 i saw kiss 3 times before ace left 2 times from the front row and ive seen him do it live and in person, ive seen every version of kiss 13 times total ace is the best guitar player ever in and out of kiss.

  • always copied never matched... And as 4 Peter hey come on theres a real rocknroller as well, Gene he kept up, and Mr. Stanley yeah baby

  • get on google and search for Replay Media Catcher. Download and install it. The demo version will work for you just fine. It will catch anthing going into your sound card and save it as an mp3. I've had great success with it. Hope that helps!

  • uh...he's tapping at like 5:50...........1974

  • agreed.... XD

  • You are a dipshit. you probably were not even around back than dummy. compared to todays bands no they are not metal but listen dummy go back to 1975 listen to alive and tell me for back than they were not metal. you are a dummy and you disrespect fans of metal and hard rock. you are a dummy.

  • dummy?

  • This might be my favorite performance from the band. All of them are at the top of their game, before fame, fortune and chemicals deteriorated their skills.

  • Ace is great period

  • all you idiots that argue if kiss is metal. well its about history and in 1974 kiss was 100% heavy metal...no monday morning quarterback bullshit...k

  • @bosoxyaz8 nice said...

    nowadays this is almost pop...

    its inbetween rock and pop

somewhere over there its till cooll..

btw eddie van halen go his inspiration fromt the tab solo of ace!!

  • @bosoxyaz8 Not only was KISS metal back then - they scared the hell out of people.

  • @SupernautG Totally bro. some people like to forget facts and history.

  • @bosoxyaz8 sounds like rock good rock

  • Electric woman and Dyna girl couldn't deny the cosmic powers of Kiss..They had to at least admire genes tongue all on the media..Those chics were so killer back then..I guess it was ace that showed tapping to fucking van halen? Its just that ace was so caught up in his card games to do anything with the tapping idea..IN A FUCKING PIGS ASS..Fucking stupid shit for brain comments..You ever here of Frank marino?Straight up hammerons 76..

  • ace rocks. a looooot. i lub him :D

  • That video, right there, is the perfect example of why they are the greatest thing on Earth. I'm seeing them tonight (but with Ace and Peter absent, I have issues calling it "Kiss"). And just a little clarification, Eddie Van Halen didn't invented tapping, Ace did. Eddie did Ace's guitar parts in studio for the Love Gun album and Ace showed him how. Don't give me any of your "No man, its Jimmy Page who did it first" kind of crap. Ace is something bigger, cooler, and more mystical than Page.

  • If only he had some brain cells left to remember all the great riffs, and lead that he wrote. He was definitely bigger in the drugs then Page. I disagree with you saying Ace invented tapping, wheres the proof. Gibson, the person who invented guitars could have done it, who are you to say Ace did. Where's the proof???? Ace barely did any fucking tapping, as a guitar player who embraces kiss, I know for a fact that Ace did hardly any tapping Live in his career. I wanna see a video where he does.

  • 1. Than Page*

    2. You're a fuckin' idiot he does tapping in every one of his live recorded solos.

    3. Never say you know anything for a fact when its obvious you don't cause you just look like a silly cunt

  • Shock me is about as far as your gonna get.

  • actually surprisingly, Gene simmons did guitar on the first love gun recording. Eddie van halen almost joined KISS but never did, and did not do any songs.

  • get fucked he did not. EVH that is

  • @TheMullerFan yep, he certainly did, gene simmons convinced him to stay with his Van Halen, im not joking lol

  • @TheMullerFan, haha i just saw this and yeah he did, gene simmons convinced him to stay with Van Halen, look it up!

  • Ace at his fucking best here!!!! any one who says he's shit can stick this peformance up their ass!!!!!!!!!

  • This was KISS at their very best - when they first came around their first 2 albums were just breaking through & they were definitely something to see "live" as you can see here...

To me out of all the bands that played on the "Midnight Special" Kiss definitely without a doubt put on the best show! Edgar Winter was another! Ace Frehley's Solo at the end of the set is enough to make your hair stand up on the back of your neck it's so fucking good! This was 70's rock!

  • They sound especially tight here.

  • ace's costume is cool especialy this one

  • video timer at 4.58.weres thease 2 guys going?dont leave now(LOL) the shows juz startin

  • what no posts on this one.dangggg!killer solo ace fans.classic.too bad for analog audio of the times.cause these guys was so loud and clear, video never captures the real show.
