thats not bad quality for a cell phone camera that is almost better than my canon power shot A560 digicam but I shoot at 320x240 mode b/c anything higher and I lose zooming ability and it eats up memory like crazy. the video from this is amazing theres no compression artifacts and no AMR narrow band scrambled sounding audio this thing takes nice videos. how is it on still pics, any good?

After viewing the rawn file I can safely say that the OmniaHD is way better than this in terms of quality. In fact I personally think my Nokia N82 is a much better video recorder than the Droid.

However the quality here is more than acceptable... I think the software could improve with time as I hear the stills capabbility is pretty bad.

I must say this is some the best video i have seen taken from a phone. That said, I'm getting one with my "new every two" in march.

And check out the link in the description to get a real feel for the video quality, most phones you can't make out moving objects, whereas with the droid you can clearly read the words on a moving train. Brilliant.

Thanks for the video and especially the link to the original. I'm a bit disappointed. I'm coming from a 3GS and I think it may be a step down in video/camera quality but at least I'll be able to receive calls if I step into the grocery store. (Verizon vs. AT&T)

That's not uncommon in digital cameras in high-contrast situations. Sometimes called purple fringing. You can read a bit more about it on Wikipedia.

Yes, but the point I was making is that if you want good pictures and/or good video footage, you shouldn't be looking at a phone. I only use my phone when I really need to capture something and I don't have any of my cameras on me(which is rare, usually have my D3s or Canon Vixia HV30 24/7). Basically emergency use only. For the price the Droid is, you get a lot of features. Don't expect excellent picture/video quality. That said, it's still good for a phone.

You have to compare the videos with others that have been uploaded to YouTube. The actual video looks *way* better on the phone or on a PC than it does after YouTube mashes it up.
