Had a girlfriend in high school find a couple babies (mom had been run over I guess).. She brought them out to me in the woods (south of worcester MA) to release. She had already gotten acquainted with them and they'd run up to the car whenever I'd pull in, climb up my jeans and look through my pockets for treats - till their brothers-in-limbs taught them differently..
I see them every weekend. (at least I think it's them) The cage is still at the edge of the yard and we put peanuts in it for them ...and the chipmunks and birds.
No, they run away if I come within 20 meters of them.
They didn't become socialized at all, which I suppose is a good thing. I had thought they would feed from my hand for a while longer, but the were fully feral by their second day of freedom.
than your work was completely successfull.if they would be still tame, this could be a problem if they would cross the way of other humans especially the people without respect of little creatures.have a nice weekend.greetings from berlin (germany)

Must have been a great experience raising them, and great to see them leave, but obviously sad at the same time.
