@Toracube Do you by any chance a CD of the "Martians Go home"? Would love the number of the CD. Shorty Rogers assembled a wonderful group of progressive musicians. I am trying to replace my old LPs with CDs.
Hi Otaku friend, just to say Magalee has put this on her channel, as a favourite and I can tell you that it's one of mine and you brought it back- so nostalgic for me, reminding of my suddenly getting hooked into this music aged 18 my sincere thanks -david
60 otaku3, I'm an Englishman who loves American jazz, especially those great and wonderful sounds of West Coast jazz, he Shorty sounds in particular. Great chords and solos. Exciting but hauntingly sad. The best years of my life spent flying around the world were backed by those fantastic jazz works. Thanks for the nostalgic kicks.
Beautiful-Lyrical-Talented-Skillful-Artistic-Memorable. Thank you for posting60otaku3. Do you have any Shorty's LP's pre 53 ? Say 46/7/8/ ?? I heard one aged 12 ish and it made a real impression Like to find it.
Unfortunately I do not have a old album of Shorty Rogers that much but love the album "Modern Sounds" (GNP Records) which he recorded with Art Pepper, Jimmy Giuffre and Shelly Manne in 1951.
It is that record which is the oldest in his album which I have.
Thank you for the prompt reply Otaku I checked Amazon and found there is a 1946 CD copy of it. I suspect it's that which I heard. There are also several cd's with all the usual suspects playing !! Have a\ look ?!
You are right @60otaku3 But there is a set of five cd's entitled Shorty Rogers Vol.1.1946-1951 West Coast Trumpet Ace Bandleader Composer Amazon $28.98
I love these sides and hearing world class muisicians navigate the dense arrangements. Any chance you can post "Blues for Brando" with a beautiful solo by Bill Perkins?
Thank you for these wonderful examples of "west coast jazz." The arrangements are thoughtful and provide excellent points of departures for the many fine solos. I particularly liked the Art Pepper solo on "Bunny." Sometimes arrangers get in the way of the soloist's space, but in this case Pepper had plenty of room to explore. I also enjoyed the many Shorty Rogers backgrounds and transitions. Shorty was a giant out in L.A. Thanks agin.
lulz I just found about Short Rogers cuz of the looney tunes cartoon "3 little bops"

Domo arigato, David-san!!
By the way, I do not have a relation at all with Magalee's channel.
If you intend to comment on that channel repeatedly, I must break off my friendship with you.
Please understand it beforehand.

Incidentally what is the name of those CDs?
I think that Shorty Rogers in late 40's was participated as the trumpeter (or the arranger) for the Woody Herman's orchestra.

編成からしてマイルスの「クールの誕生」からかなりの影響を受けている演奏とアレンジですが、明るくメロディアスなところがいかにも
「ウエストコーストジャズ」という雰囲気があって良いですね。
