I find alot of this entertaining. However, I think that songs have a way of being recycled in our subconscious. Music will live on longer after we're dead. Human beings are just the channels of it. There's not much room on the musical canvas to dispute over who wrote what. All the really great melodies have been taken it seems by The Beatles, Radiohead, CSNY, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, etc. to name not even 1% of the great musicians that have embedded their songs in our ears. Speaking as a musician, I highly doubt they did it on purpose. It's a fairly common progression and the melody just seems to come naturally. I don't really think that Coldplay turn to progressive rock legends for inspiration.

I can say in all honesty that if it wasn't for satch, I wouldn't play guitar today. He's responsible for the innovation of dozens of techniques on guitar few mastered before him. I find alot of this entertaining. However, I think that songs have a way of being recycled in our subconscious. Music will live on longer after we're dead. Human beings are just the channels of it. There's not much room on the musical canvas to dispute over who wrote what. All the really great melodies have been taken it seems by The Beatles, Radiohead, CSNY, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, etc. to name not even 1% of the great musicians that have embedded their songs in our ears. There's a difference between similar chord progressions and the exact same melody. Even the timing of the song is exactly the same. Satriani is an original artist and writes his songs using his own massive reservoir of musical knowledge. Coldplay had a keyboard and smacked their useless heads off it until they got a melody that they thought would sell. It was a replica of a Joe Satriani song and they lost some money because of it. Unfortunately not as much as they earned from the single.

Speaking as a musician, I highly doubt they did it on purpose. It's a fairly common progression and the melody just seems to come naturally. I don't really think that Coldplay turn to progressive rock legends for inspiration.

Satch has been a legend for many years since he has taught many famous guitarists like Kirk Hammet (Metallica) and Steve Vai, So don't you think it's a bit of an injustice for colplay to "transform" this song into a diffrent genre.

@SpencerStreetStation and further more I am the only person I know of that has heard "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven in the second movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto # 21, so, suck on that..... who made who......gr8 IM track by the way.....

Coldplay steals songs from every other band and jazz it up a little and sell it to suckers like you that think "this is an original"... "a classic" when in reality there lazy muscians that can't think of anything to create, so they pick on small artists like Joe Satriani and totally rip it off.
