  • to remove nut on axle do not jack up .leave on ground with tries on then use socket on loosen way easyer

  • Thanks. Now I can drop the crankshaft from my son's drive around without oil Corolla.

  • OK, so now my issue is that I can't get either axle out. I'm using a giant (14") flat head screwdriver with an extension pipe on it, applying pressure and hitting the driver with a hammer, just like you did. The only thing I have succeeded in doing is bending the thin metal at the base of the axle. I don't seem to get enough grip on the larger thick portion at the base of the axle.

    Any tips?

  • @electrohippyj You need a tool like i am using "MAC Tools PB18 Prybar"

  • OK, thanks. I thought that was just a giant screwdriver!

I guess the head of the screwdriver I have, though 1/2" or more wide, is not enough to grip and make a good transfer of torque.

  • Never mind, at first I didn't see the knurling on the top of the tube. Pliers rotating that broke it free, then I could turn it by hand.

  • How do you remove the speedometer cable after removing the bolt? Twist? Pull? Pry? Thanks, great vid!!

  • @mopar334 As far weight goes this tansaxle is on the light side.

  • Great job very simple. I like it..

  • Dude, this guys has the best voice for this sort of videos. I am not kidding. Something about the way he explains this stuff that makes it very easy to understand. Good job.

  • Do you HAVE to remove both axles to get to the pressure plate or can you just remove the drivers side and is it pretty much the same procedure for a 1996 Mazda 626. Thanks for any help.

  • I am watching this video at stopped at 4:45. All this so far is to replace the clutch? Someone told me it was a lot simpler than what your showing so far.

Also is $1000 about right for replacing a clutch in a 1990 F150?

    Thanks.

  • @TheOpenDialog Yes removing and replacing the clutch is easy it is removing the transmission to get at it which can be difficult and time consuming .

  • richpin06a do i need to drain the gearbox oil for doing this jab perfectly?

  • @dawood1351 Yes you do.

  • @richpin06a Thanks for the reply,

Now I have 2 more question if you don’t mind please,

    1. I do not have a pilot, can I use something similar instead? If no where can I buy one? 2. I have the small drive ratchet which you first used to tighten the bolts on the pressure plate but do not have the bigger one, so can I use the small one until they are completely tight?

  • @dawood1351 You can get a pilot from any good auto parts store. If you have a 3/8 drive you should be all set.

  • @richpin06a thanks again for the quick reply you seem to be available 24 hrs a day,

so will i gentley tighten them as long as i can?

  • @dawood1351 Yes because 14 ft-lbs torque is not very much.

  • hello again

today i removed all stuff till i got to the bolts that hold the tans. to the engine. i removed the 3 bolts on the top of the tans. including the other 3 bolts that holds the starter, yet the trans does not come out when trying to pull it out it seems to be still strongly bolted mainly in the back near the starer. it is a VW polo 2001 any idea?

  • @dawood1351 I have not worked on a polo but i bet it is similar to most vehicles in that there are 4 main bolts that secure the transmission to the engine. Two on the top and two on the bottom and don't forget about the locating pins that hold the transmission on..

  • @richpin06a the 3 main bolts i removed, 2 of them were on the top and 1 on the side near the radiator but the bottum of the tans. is close to the engine oil pand and there is no any bolt.

there is an extra oil drain bolt just beside the drive shaf and is very straight to the engine mount bolt just below the starer ,

can it be a long bolt? by the way where is the location of the pins?

  • @dawood1351 The pins are usually close the the bottom bolts between the engine and transmission.

  • @richpin06a finaly i took the tansmission off from the engine,

now i see the input shaft bearing is completley brocken,

i rang couple of places they said that i should buy a complete gearbox,

is there any place that i could only buy the input shaft bearing?

  • @dawood1351 The dealer should be able to hook you up on that.

  • LOL Rich and his dad are rockin out to "bound for the floor" from Local H. You can make it out at around 8:00

  • I replaced my clutch over the past week but now when I go to start it, it turns over feeling really rough (maybe where the starter is?) and won't start. Any idea what that would be? Maybe I didn't get the starter lined up quite correctly or something when I reassembled it, though everything went together easily enough.

  • @couchbum88 Sounds like something is not quite in the right place.I see this from time to time after a clutch replacement.

  • @couchbum88 Something is not lined up right, sounds very weird. If the clutch alignment tool is used, everything goes back together as it came apart, this is not rocket science, it should be fine. I would say start taking it back apart until you find what is wrong

  • wow i didnt know that a clucth replacement needs the hole car dissasembeled...:/

  • @kronosg13 That's why you don't buy a front wheel drive truck. I didn't even know they made front wheel drive trucks, bloody useless.

  • I didn't know Ray Romano could work on cars!

  • @natnat1975 O ya he is a very versatile guy

  • @natnat1975 At least his mother is not nagging him while he is working on them.......lol

  • I replaced my clutch a couple of days ago and the damn thing won't shift at all. What do you think that could be?

  • @DMLuikens What year make vehicle do you have.

  • @richpin06a 1994 Toyota Tercel

  • @DMLuikens There could be something wrong with the clutch hydraulic system. When you push down on the clutch see if the release arm is moving.

  • @richpin06a yeah everything moves my clutch is spongey feeling and you can't even force the car into gear. Do you think something is misaligned?

  • @DMLuikens If the arm looks like it is moving the correct distance and there is no air in the hydraulics then the problem is possibly something wrong with the plate, disc or arm and if that is so the transmission will have to be removed for inspection.

  • @DMLuikens sounds like you could'nt put a bolt in a monkey's mouth

  • Are there adjustments to be made or checked when replacing the clutch?

  • @Heronemous Not on this car.

  • Hello, thanks for the great video! Are there seals or other parts that would be a good idea to change when you do the clutch job? I plan to do this one next weekend. Thanks!

  • @electrohippyj If you have high millage i would go ahead and change the rear main engine seal.

  • this video is way better than the professionally produced ones, but it makes me miss my tercel :( Thanks for posting

  • at 3 :14 can you just get someone to hold the brake

  • @imthechandyman That should work

  • dude ur car is over 15 years ol and everything is coming off with ez it makes me belive uve did this a couple of times to this car......

  • Great instructable! I've dropped my tranny twice on my Corolla 3E and they come out pretty easy.

  • This is why I love RWD so much easier to work on. Top video

  • Gracias por toda la informacion, me fue de mucha utilidad

  • This video was great. Thanks for the detailed how to. I'm going to try to replace the clutch on my 96 Paseo when the new parts show up in the mail this week.

  • great info : )

  • i wish the f i was mechanically inclined i would love to drink beer and try to to this

  • @beachboytriad After enough beers you might not hesitate and give it a whirl...

  • This man is good teacher, he takes it step by step, its impossible for anyone to fuck this up.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I am doing a clutch right now on my 95 rolla. Did the tercel have a crossmember. I think I have to remove my crossmember:(

  • Yes,it was his car so he was making sure i did the job right.

  • @richpin06a Thank you sir, I managed to replace the clutch on my car "JDM toyota Glanza V" we did it with my brother and my dad, none of us are mechanics, thanks to the video we did with no problems, save about
