is this how they create a video where everything is in color except for one object that happens to be black and white? and u wonder how did they do that? i bet it's a video mask or something!
@DestinyQx Small Canon digital cameras let you do that automatically by picking a colour and processing the video internally. Check out the SD1300/SD1400/SD780/SD4000/... et cetera.
Great tutorial. It was easy for me to follow and consider myself a pretty high end user of the software. Not sure how easy this would be for a newbie.
Or you could avoid all of that and just use "color range" tool, and you could have accomplished your task in a matter of seconds instead of wasting time with layer masking.
Colour range only works in certain situations (where edges are very distinct), and the "fuzziness" slider is NOT a replacement for a true alpha-channel mask. Edges are way cleaner using this method -- try them side-by-side and you'll see what I mean.
I use the 'select->colour range' tool a lot as well, this method *is* way more time consuming and often unnecessary. =)
Perfect! Please keep making tuts, you rock

The GIMP can do this now? The main reason I bought Photoshop was for proper masking support... how things have changed.
(Well, the Gimp's interface is still a huge mess, so I think I'll still to PS, but it's good to know the open source team is still working hard.)
