  • lee, i farted. any thoughts?

  • @204manpreet

Did is stain your under shorts? If not then you should be ok... But just to be safe always wear black underwear... You never know when your farts will leave a pesky little skid mark :-)

  • I think dumbbell give me more pump on my chest than barbell.

  • Thats a nice sandwhich maker u got ther....

  • @leemhayward: Hey, I like your videos! I was wondering, do you have any advice about incline Bench or Incline dumbell press? I have been benching for a long time, and recently switched to dumbell press. I always found that my chess was worn out after either Bench Press+Flys or Dumbell Press+Flys, so I would leave out Incline press. Where should incline, and should I switch it with bench press some time?

  • @analyticannoyance

Just swap flat bench for incline bench. You can alternate back and forth each week if you like.

  • im hitting a plateau in my dumbbell press instead of my bench. i rarely do bench, idk what it is but i can put up more weight in an incline dumbbell press,(90's) than an incline bench (135). i start out with incline dumbbell press 3 sets with 6-10 reps, then flat dumbbell press 3 sets, 6-10 reps and later just either dumbbell flys or cables. i used to press out 90's for 6 reps now im down to barely pressing out 70's for 6 reps. i only do chest on monday. what should i do?

  • @neverbackdownPL1221

If I were you focus more on your weaker exercises. If you bring up your weak links you'll get bigger and stronger.

  • Your chest is massive! :O

  • this is what iam going to start doing starting this Monday, i will also add incline db press, db flys and incline db fly, as well as dips. cause i have been stuck @ 150 pounds barbell bench press for too long.

  • i also bolieve that dips really help, i do the 10-5-5-3-3 program and when i do dips i can tell it helps me go up 5 lbs each week on my 3 rep max.

  • thanks for the information dude, im a freshman in high school and we do flat bench monday and decline/incline thursday, so far iv been adding 5 pounds to my 3 rep max every week on flat bench i do the 10 5 5 3 3 workout for bench and it seems to work good so far, went from a 3 rep max of 150 to 190 since football was over, should i add dumbell presses to my monday also for the extra pump?

  • @yfz450911

Do just one or the other. No need to do both barbell and dumbbell bench in the same workout.

  • @yfz450911 dude im a freshman and i bench the same and cant get any better

  • is it ok stating on incline barbell then moving onto flat dumbell?

  • @Th3MainMan

Sure, you can start with incline bench if you like. A lot of advanced lifters tend to focus more on the incline bench as it helps build up the upper chest which tends to be a lagging area for most guys.

  • @MuscleTeenFlex Work other mucles more. A lot of people have a problem with not doing a balanced workout i.e. doing too much bench without working their back and traps, etc.

  • hey lee i keep hearing that flys are complete bullshit is it true or not?

  • @arizonaicetea92

I don't agree with that, I personally include flyes in my chest workout because they are an awesome stretch exercise and they hit the pecs from a totally unique position that you can't get with pressing moves alone.

  • yeahh..i kind of have a problem. I prefer dumbbells instead of barbell bench and i technically have the opposite problem. neither barbell or dumbbell bench press increases. I've really been focusing on incline bench and dumbbell flies recently to switch things up a bit. i dont know if ive made any progress but is there anything you could say about this? think it will work? thanks

  • @hercule50

There are a lot of things you can vary... The set and rep patterns, the tempo, the rest times between sets, etc. Or you can just go ahead and pick up a copy of the Blast Your Bench program and try a whole new training system.

  • dumbbell work is great. alot of people think its only a cutting movement but you can gain great strengths and size if you know what your doing. i prefereably like doing supersets starting with a heavy 70 80 lb DB then dropping to 40 or 50 and ripping out higher reps. you get both mass and definition in one set.

  • they took the link down

  • @MuscleTeenFlex

When you are stuck in a plateau it means you need to change things up. So instead of keep on doing barbell bench press, try doing a dumbbell bench variation like this video explains.

    What happened to the site?

  • Brother, i love your vids but 90% of the time you lose me cause you're talking too much man. maybe do the workout while you talk. I just get bored and click on another video. Im not being a H8er, i honestly think you're fantastic, just more working out bro =), thanks

  • @JustinCase10261

Thanks for the feedback, I'm working on shorting up the videos and showing more "action" :-)

  • I was stuck at 250 max on bench for the longest time but then I switched it up to db bench for 3 months. I got up 300 lbs this week it really does work

  • @WestGolf164

Good for you, glad to hear you are making good gains with your workouts!

  • They always say... If you want to get good at deadlifting, you just gotta deadlift. Supplementary exercises that work the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings/ legs are ok but you're not working the exact same muscles that you are working when you deadlift and the technique is different, too. And the same thing applies to the squat and the bench press, too. It is ok to do supplementary exercises once in a while but the best way to get better at the bench press is to actually do the bench press.

  • patricia can do more weight on the dumb bells than i can.. im just going to stop working out now.

  • What if my barbell bench is stuck but my dumbell bench keeps going up i usally do barbell bench first then something with dumbbells but my dumbells seem to be going up just not my barbell flat bench.

  • @ManGod321

What area do you get stuck in with the barbell bench?

Can you press the weight off your chest, but get stuck at lockout...

Or do you get stuck in the bottom of the lift.

If you get stuck at lockout you need to build up your triceps more. If you get stuck at the bottom you need to build up your chest more.

  • @leemhayward

I thought that you had to build your lats more if your bench was stuck at the bottom of the lift.

  • @JaySLickTwinZ

There are numerous things you can try to help bust out a plateau. Working the agonist and antagonist muscle groups works as well.

  • lol at 3:20 thats went so smoothly

  • I have hit a plateau on my flat bench and will now give this a try.

Would you recommend cycling between flat bench and dumbell for best results?

  • @phatlip2

Yes, you can do dumbbell bench for 3-4 weeks, then do barbell bench for 3-4 weeks. Alternating back and forth can help increase your strength gains.

  • @leemhayward I do 80 pound dumbbells each hand but my flat bench is only 185 6 reps I should be reping 200 at least what's going on? :(

  • @piesek56

Not really, everyone is different. Some people can pretty much press with dumbbells what they can with a barbell. It's an individual thing. Bottom line is you want to focus on building strength in both your barbell and dumbbell bench.

  • Is that Man in the box playing in the vid haha

  • What if your dumbbells at your gym only go up to 85 and cant progress =/

  • @PapaD93

That maybe a sign to join a better gym. Most of the "serious" gyms in our area have dumbbells that go up to 120's.

  • @leemhayward Yeah I what to but this one is right by my house so i can walk there and right by the track so i dont need to use stupid treadmills. lol

  • @leemhayward .. Totally Lee. Once I left Ballys (uggg)) I attended a real gym I really started to see the changes in my physique. The dumbells in my gym go up to 160LBS.

  • flat bench dumbbell press build which parts of pecs?

  • @timbrandon94

It's an overall chest exercise. But if you want to target more upper pec you can use an incline bench. If you want to focus on more lower pec you can use a decline bench.

  • oh gawd, this dude is big as fuck

  • hi LEE, can i ask something about inner chest? i have a big drain between my chest and i have been working out for about a year and im still getting no results but a bigger chest

  • @AdrianChia531

Some people naturally have a bigger gap between their pec muscles. All you can really do is make your chest bigger all over. The fact that you've been working out for a year is good, but it still takes longer than that to build a thick muscular body.

  • @igy123

I have made a bench press technique video, just search through my upload videos: "How To Bench Press More Weight With Proper Technique"

  • I do 80 pound dumbbells each hand but my flat bench is only 185 6 reps I should be reping 200 at least what's going on?

  • Haha.. I had to start laughing right away because you described me and my routine right off the bat. Bench on Monday, work up to one rep max, worked well for a few months, and now I've plateaued for the last three months. Thanks for the vid.

  • Dang is she banging 50's 0_o !!!

  • I think I might try this. For some reason whenever I did this for incline bench (used dumbbels for incline instead of barbell) when I went back to barbell I felt stronger.

  • Hey Lee, does this also work in reverse? I'm stuck at a flat dumbbell bench press plateau, so I was wondering if I could bust through this plateau with flat-bb bench press or incline/decline variations? Thank you!

  • @umadaesthetics

Yes, you can do it in reverse as well, but most people don't focus nearly as much on db bench as they do on barbell bench so the opposite situation doesn't happen as often.

  • Dude that woman db benches 55s!

  • getting stronger and gaining muscle isnt really that hard

  • Love dumbells!

  • Steve-o on roids!!!

  • I think your better half there has a better weight to strength ratio.

  • after doing a workout for breaking through a plateau. the following week do you go back to your normal workout routine?

  • @inhiswords

You could go back and do your regular routine again and strive to beat your personal best lifts.

  • can your wife do a nice yoga workout for us to see ;)

  • super woman want to make some super babies

  • patrisha is a machine!

  • How many sets of chest should you do in a day? I normally do Incline, Decline, and Regular Bench and I was wondering if that was enough.

  • @waterboy51

You should work your chest 1 or 2 times per week. Just search through my chest workout playlists to see some sample workouts you can follow.

  • @leemhayward hi lee, how many days do you need to rest of every particular musclegroup?

  • Hey Lee, what do think of replacing flat-benching (bb or db) with incline db- bench-press for a while ? Most forum-guys say it would be useful too, to bust a plateau and in general. But I´d like to know your oppinion, cause obviously you´re successful in what you´re doing.

  • @Oceanborn1975

Absolutely, any different bench press variation over what you have been doing will provide unique muscle stimulate and help to spur on new growth. So that could be incline, decline, barbell, dumbbell, etc. And for folks who train in powerlifting style gyms they could also include board presses, power rack lockouts, add bands, chains, etc. There are dozens of different bench press variations one can do.

  • @leemhayward Well thanks man, that helped me a lot. So I keep the inclines for a while and hope it brings further progress.

  • i busted out of a pleateu when i was high in the gym lol... 225x 8 at 205 pounds :P. not bragging about it but i felt proud and amazed at the same time :P

  • cool Lee, ima try this looks pretty good

  • do you guys think this dude looks like Steve-O?

  • @pieman12345678900 I see where you're coming from...if he was jacked...

  • I dont have any more weight in the gym haha, im on the highest dumbbells

  • Saturday is chest day Duhhh you can go in the morning, most hot girls go on sat and if you go out ull be pumped :D

  • damn your wife can bench 50lbs each hand, that's pretty strong.

  • you are 100% right i was flat bench pressing with my dad for about 2 years and he went to prison and i was training bye my self . And i stopped my workout and started all new and 15months later my dad come out of prison and i went from a 150kg bench press up to 170kg bench press . Training back , shouders , triceps got me the power . I have a bad anxiety disorder at the moment so am training at home hope to get back to gym soon . Am using your videos for new workouts Thanks for the uploads

  • @VisionimagifyTV

Yes, this would apply for all angles of bench press (incline, flat, and decline).

  • what is this accent?

  • @GalenSpring

    I'm from Newfoundland.

  • @leemhayward oh haha guess ive never heard a Newfoundlander accent. how is it there compared to the US?

  • I'm not sure if you mentioned this but, what if you max out when doing the dumbbell bench?

  • @32success1

The same thing would apply, if you are always doing db bench and hit a plateau, switch to another bench variation. You can do incline bench, decline bench, barbell, dumbbell, reverse grip, there are all kinds of bench variations you can to do bust out of plateaus.

  • I'm a freshman in highschool and i've been lifting weights 4-5 days a week for 2 hours or so. I lifted straight for 4-5 weights and increased my bench from about 100 to 150. I then took a one week break from benching and came back to find my new 1 rep max was 170. Breaks really do help and you need to explore other workouts including chest workouts.

  • Very Helpful tip Lee in tucking in the arms i really noticed when i use dumbells for my chest sometimes my shoulders are getting pumped also...will definitely do this on my bext chest workout..thanks

  • Hi Lee i'm stuck at a bench press plateau and ive hit a plateau on flat and incline barbell press so i've switched up to incline and decline dumbell press for a month was just wondering will be doing incline dumbell press shocking the muscle or is it to similar to incline barbell press and should i stop doing incline for awhile? or is it okay to do dumbell? thanks :)

  • Do you think one arm barbell bench would provide the same stimulation as DB bench?

  • @joluta1

I've never anyone do a 1 arm barbell bench press before. I've seen guys doing 1 arm dumbbell benches, but 1 arm barbell benches... Why would you do that ? LOL

  • @leemhayward

that would be crazy for stability

  • @leemhayward i've seen it done on the smith machine before and there have been some magazines featuring that workout as a way to switch up your chest routine

  • @joluta1 that just sounds like a recipe for disaster. just do dumbells ha

  • whats the best exercise for the under part of the chest?

  • any idea on where to look or a possible link to a spot on your website where there might be a basic layout for a weekly routine.....like excersize by excersize, and day to day..that sort of thing....im a beginner and all these excersizes are a little overwhelming...thanks

  • @bslms85

Go to google and search for "Lee Hayward Basic Bodybuilding Workout" that will bring you to one of my workout articles with a weekly training split outlined.

  • this is kinda goes to @joluta1 question i dont get how u can go 3 weeks without benching and doing db presses instead n ur bench gets stronger?im at a bench plateu i cant get pass 5 reps of 225 is db presses the best answer? btw i love ur channel helped me alot since ive stared

  • For how long would you recommend switching to dumbell bench press?

  • @joluta1

For at least 3 weeks before going back to barbell bench.

  • is it okay if i bench and do dumbell chest press on the same day?

  • @TurtIeBoy

You can, but I personally prefer to do one or the other.

  • hey lee i was wondering if by strengthening your shoulders it would increase your bench?

  • @weideriron

Yes, to bench heavy you need strong chest, shoulders, and triceps.

  • shes strong as hell

  • Great vid and info!

  • great advice, i saw this technique for doing dumbbell press, I.E. the different arm angle, and it really does help, doing it the other way i could do hardly any weight due a shoulder injury, but now it's healed and i do it this way, i can do nearly as much as i was before the injury, cheers man, great videos :D

  • Thanks for this advise lee has really helped me :)

  • Man I hope this helps me with my plateau with my chest. My chest is just really hard to grow for some reason. I've always had broad shoulders and long arms, but a narrow chest. I feel like I always get a bigger workout on my shoulders and not my chest when benching. I've always arched my back slightly, but I'm going to try that elbows tucked in trick for it. Thanks.

  • lee, what would you recommend for traps? the shrugs that i do, i dont feel any type of burn...i even increased repetitions and sets, but still nothing...think you can help?

  • @trenchcoat34

Change them up, dumbbell shrugs, barbell shrugs (wide grip, narrow grip, behind the back grip, etc.) Change your set and rep patterns. The bottom line is to provide unique muscle stimulation by changing things around.

  • @trenchcoat34 bro I got a sick burn from holding the peek contracted position (lee demonstrated it pretty good in one of his videos)

explode up, PAUSE for a 1 count, LOWER ON A 3 COUNT, PAUSE in the stretch

when you can't do slow reps rep it out fast go for the burn

try that with any muscle group you will get a burn I promise

I see a lot of people shrugging way too fast

  • @trenchcoat34 Hi there i fort ide just give u a extra trap excersise u can do to help to get them to burn and grow i had the same trouble as u i didnt feel anything and they wouldnt grow but try this out! as if your doing rear delt cable flys do the same movment except bring the weight up and contract with the traps and squeeze at the top it really builds the back of the trap and i find its far better than the shrug you might of already herd of it but if not give it a go! :)

  • that chicks pretty strong

  • I personally prefer dumbbells! Great video! Keep them coming mate

  • Hey Lee. I do many sets for my chest workout, 2 different exercises, 5x5 and one more 3x8 with less weight. So I was wondering if I should do less sets, but more reps with shorter pauses in between. I usually do flat bench and the same dumbell press shown here and the third one depends on how I feel, for example incline bench. Also, if I would stop doing the bench, how many sets of this press should I do? Recently my bench has been developing slowly, so I could use help. Thank you.

  • i wonder if i can use the same technique for incline/decline bench press?

  • I agree totally. Personally, I get a great pump with dbells. Also, chances are if you get injured in a wt room, it'll be while doing a barbell bench press or a behind the neck military press. Just my opinion.

  • problem is for me all is i got is some weights at home at so i dont have acess to alot of equipment

  • i usually start out bench press, incline, then dumbells. are u saying that if i just cut out the benchpress for a while it will actually increase?

  • " you dont always have to do flat barbell bench"...........SO TRUE. Me personally, i get 10x better results/gains doing flat dumbell press, and i dont even go heavy on them. Thats another thing, you dont need to lift " ronnie coleman weights" to get big.

  • Hey Lee, 2 months ago i could flat dumbell press 32KG, as my max but now my left arm cant even get the weight in the air while my right arm can. I feel no sharp pains, just weakness. Please tell me how to resolve this. cheers

  • @damus1000

You may have strained a tendon, nerve, etc. that's usually the cause for problems like this. Take at least a week off training and then when you resume choose some different moves to work your chest, shoulders, etc. and this should help.

  • hey lee im vin i only have a bench and i fight and i only have a bench do u have any excercises for only bench for lifting and body building and i have one dumb bell

  • @vchibbs

In all honesty you should either join a gym or look into getting some more equipment. You are kind of limited to what you can do with a bench and a dumbbell.

  • @vchibbs ok i will try

  • hey lee my names zach i'm almost 18 years old and I'm stuck at maxing out at 230 lbs and its been that way for about 3-4 months. My routine usually consists of starting out flat bench, inclined, flies, flat dumbells, declined dumbells. Do you recommend that I replace my flat bench with another set of chest flies?

  • @givehermaoface

You could cut back on the number of pressing exercises you do. No need to do barbell bench, dumbbell bench, incline, decline, etc. all in the same workout.

  • thanks man. i bench twice a week and its just become a routine.

    havent seen much improvement.

free weights are way more effective.

  • hey lee can you post a vid about hitting plateaus with your biceps and triceps, i made solid gains for about 2-3 months but now im jus stuck!! plz help thanx

  • do i need to use full range of motion when i do this bench technique?

  • yo lee, i wanna ask u .. when i do incline barbell press on the smith i get pain!! help me out plz :-)

  • @seziad might want to say where the pain is and describe it...could be anything that was very broad

most likely the subscapularis is torn or tight. the subscapularis is the muscle in the rotator cuff that internally rotates the humerus. maybe do some rotator cuff stretching and strengthening...or seek a fitness professional IN PERSON issues like that can't be answered on the net for the most part bud

stay away from the smith machine if it hurts free motion is better anyways ;)

  • i do dumbbell chest presses all the time, so would it have the same effect if i change to barbell bench presses for a while? also how any chest exercises should i do in one workout?

  • hey Lee. i do dumbbell press and hardly ever bench. so would i have to switch to bench to overcome my plateau? i dont bench as much cause i dont have a spotter and dumbbells just are safer

  • "STOP BENCHING?! The nerve!"

That's usually what I hear from folks when I, too, tell them "stop benching". It's all they know. It sucks how folks only learn thru consequence.

  • are u currently on a bulking phase?

  • why

  • ok thx

  • cool

  • Trish was handling impressive weight for a girl her size; you too Lee, but that goes without saying.

  • would you do the flat dumbell press and inclined press in the same workout or is one or the other?

  • If the cause of the plateau is lagging stabilizer muscle strength, switching to db's will work. The cause of a plateau can also be overtraining, in which case, workload for chest needs to be cut in half for a week to allow it to recover. If other bodyparts are plateauing too, then workload for all bodyparts should be cut in half for a week for the whole system to recover and going to failure should be avoided during that week.

  • hey lee what do you mean by burn out when doing too many press exercises?

  • @rammajamma1993

Over training. There is no need to do both barbell presses and dumbbell presses in the same workout. Just pick one or the other and give it 100%.

  • man i needed this

  • exactly what i was benching 185 for a semester then i started on dumbells and did those until i got to 100's so when i went back to bench i was at like 245 max up 60 pounds just because i went to dumbells!

  • Thanks for the video Lee.

  • How many pounds were those weights? Thanks for the great tips, as usual!

  • @apepoopie53

I was using 100's and Trish was using 50's.

  • ahh she benches more then me!! well not really but dam, not bad!

  • damn lee i just starting do this before i saw this video also i hear you should do dumbbell flys before you do dumbbell presses so it attacks the chest harder would you say this is true?

  • @flaminfireboy

I personally like to do my pressing exercises first. Then do flyes afterwards. But again there are pros and cons to both ways.

  • Thanks for all the videos Lee!

  • Since i dont have the money to get a barbell, or to get gym membership, i can only go school gym and my home gym which i only have dumbells. The main exercises i do are backpack pushups (with weights inside i.e bottles filled with water, i know its cheap but meh) and dumbells. Im guessing a pushup is very similar almost exact like a barbell press so is it ok if i do those two? They seem similar.

  • lee, i noticed you told one of the people who posted a comment here that too many presses in a single exercise would cause a burn out? well then isn't the chest a large muscle group, so i'm sure 3 more sets of dumbbell presses after a bench wouldn't hurt right, especially considering the chest is a major muscle and i'm kinda having some weak areas in my chest.

i'm always mixing up my routine, but sometimes it'd be like, bench, incline, flat dumbbells and ending off with some flyes.

  • the function of the chest is the push the arms forward and across the body...the flat bench works against this movement...which is why flat bench is a completely stupid exercise for bodybuilders...extremely effective for power athletes but when it comes to actually increasing the size of the muscle "hypertrophy" its dumb...dumbbells are more of a staple flat barbell bench is more of a shock exercise.

  • your site is cunfusing i can't take anyone on your suposted files .

  • @lordes1999

    What's so confusing about it?

  • @ Leemhayward me I register on your site, hoping that soon could then download the PDF to your when your system sends me an email to go to the page, it just asks me to sign up again. understood.

  • @lordes1999

You don't have to sign up again, you just have to click on a link within the e-mail I send you to confirm your e-mail address. This is just to make sure that it was actually you who signed up for the free bench press report and not some random yahoo just entering in people's e-mail addresses for shits and giggles.

  • Lee, you're the man

  • thats not completely true lee because all i have is DB so i only do DP presses and my right pec is bigger and more better shaped than my left even though i can lift both the same weight with either pec, why is this and how can i fix it?

  • Lee, what do your recommend to bring out/develop your upper mid chest, mine's flat there? Thanks man.

  • what ive noticed about lee is that he dont really care about his subbers!

  • @DICTATExTHExPACE that doesnt make any sense... he doesnt care about his subscribers, yet he makes more videos... truu

  • @DICTATExTHExPACE

What did I do to make you think that I don't care?

If I really didn't care do you think I would keep posting up these videos on a regular basis and that I would take the time to reply to comments like yours?

  • @leemhayward i dont think he meant that in a wrong way. i think he meant to say that as if like ur not like other you tubers beggin ppl to subscribe. we all thank you for your greats vids tho man.

  • @leemhayward - i didnt write this man, a friend off mine is a subber to you and he fourt he was on his own account... hell i dont bodybuild i think your just plain funny
