This particular mission, you really didn't have to go after the enemy. All you had to do was cut Seether loose and let him take everyone out and you just sit back and watch.
Rebel Assault II wasn't really a flight simulator though since it was a linear platform game on single rail where all you had to worry about was aiming and shooting for the most part, kinda like House of the Dead gun-type games at an arcade.
X-wing, Tie Fighter, XvT (which sucked), and X-wing Alliance were the flight simulators that were Wing Commander's competition. Too bad both franchises are pretty much done :(

I think that Rebel Assault II and Wing Commander IV overshadowed eachother (the former was released a month before the latter).
