  • Rick has a lot of references to Pati Labell's music in this song.....Patti Labell and Teena Marie are great friends...Patti knows Teena never got the recognition she deserved for her beautiful, creative writing...Patti, Teena and Pamela Williams (professional saxophone player and I do mean she can blow) did he album SAXTRESS #4 The Secret Garden the same The Secret Garden Barry White did, but this one is the ladies version. BEAUTIFUL!

  • OMG! I have this ALBUM! It was the Shizzel back in the day! Dig the L7 serious joint on the side of the Watch Tower! Beautiful Art Work! Peace

  • it is only fitting that there are 69 likes for this song. i wore the grooves off the fuckin album listening to this over and over. this was the second album i bought when i was11 years old after the motor booty affair. WISHING i had a girlfriend to slow dance with.

  • You can hear all the Creativity & Pure Raw Emotion in this Piece! RIP!

  • SLICK RICK - was the stuff, could sing and make you drop them draws....in a heartbeat!

  • DAMN !!!!! RICK WAS JUST F'N GENIUS!!!!!

  • R.I.P. Rick james & Teena marie. rick was a bad man.pure funk with a taste of love. damn where did all this type of music go? thank god for the golden era of music the 60's through mid 90's. after that it turned into a bunch of me,me,me, my,my,my ass clowns.

  • Yeah, still sounds great after 30 years. RJ was one serious freak but at the same time he knew his craft (music) . Back in 1979 RJ was off the chain with some "serious funk". Thanks for posting.

  • I dont have to say a word for my rick james fans.... this was the cut off the album all you L7 squares hold ya lighters up

  • sounds like he's "downtown" at the very beginning of the jam - if you get my drift...

    you so nasty, rick!!

hope you have peace now..thank you for your contribution to music, and to all of us in general. You're RICK JAMES, biatch!!

  • ONE OF THE LOVE SONGS BY RICK JAMES YOU LOVE

  • damn, this song is the shit!

  • BAD ASS RICK AGAIN 1979

  • He got all balladeer on this second solo album. Let me be honest his concerts he would throw joints at the audience, pull a female on stage, start slobbin her crazy, reachin his hands all in her bra and panties right in front of thousands . Rick was a superfreak. NO HOMO but if you were able to see this album insert photo with RICK standing with his arms cross wearing a muscle shirt that read "BUSTIN OUT" and rest I leave that up to your imagination. He was on some different shit back then.

  • Oh my Gosh I was stationed In Whidby Island, Washington. I will never forget you Chavous "Slim" Samuels. That was our jam. I will always remember, & love you. Forever, its been almost 33 years/ Its me: Gwen

  • This song was about smoking weed. That's what he meant when he was singing it. A master piece as he was a legend in his time.

  • @Bicho4u He might have been smoking weed, but Rick was mesmerized by Patti Labelle, this song is about her - listen to the words and think about LaBelle - she was his Spacey Love

  • @Bicho4u he's singin about pattie labelle, mary jane is about weed.

  • i remember sitting in my room in the barracks listening to this song..it takes me back to back..to about 22yrs old in the army..everyone owned a stereo with huge speakers..and everything else to go with it..as we had nothing else to spend our money on. this was beautiful on full stereo..those were the days,of vinyl wax..

  • i love this song...grew up to all his music thanks to my mother R.I.P <3 and miss u mommy

  • Woooo what more can I say this is deep, he really had a thing for Miss LaBelle!!!

  • he ruled the 70's along with parlement, bootsy and the gap bandFUNK ON!!!!!!!!!

  • What can I say, Rick was the man. He knew how to make you feel his music, a musical genius! I love this song and the lyrics are unbelieveable. I feel it everytime I listen to it and has such a special meaning to me. Yes giving it to you, your spaceylove!

  • @spaceylove1 I could'nt have said it better,Rick was str8 blowing on this joint!

  • Wow, this song still gives me goosebumps and reminds me of my first love.

  • I just sit and think sometimes about the music we listened to when we were in grade school an most of the songs were about love..an compared to what my kids are growing up hearing..wow..its crazy..

  • So True

  • Rick`s ass was obsessed with Patti Labelle on this song. This might be the only song other than when love is gone that wasn!t bout weed. He even mentions her. "Oh Labelle".

  • MAN! These young performers ain't got a clue! True Genius!!!!

  • This was the best slow jam grind ever!!! Southern Cali, never forget ya!!! RIP Mr. James

  • Man Rick Was Way Ahead Of His Time With This Song Because It Sounds Like It Just Came Out Lately Instead Of 29 To 30 Yrs Ago ( Damn This Is My Jam !!!!! )

  • rick is the shiznit my senior yr in high school screwing everything that moved this was the song lol

  • This song show cases how good Rick James could really sing. Check out the KILLER Fos-settle at 7:00 Now thats how you end a song!!!

  • Rick is a fantastic artist! Still blows me away to this day!

  • His outrageous ways overshadowed his genius.

  • Unfortunately, your comment is true. I loved the genius, but did not want to acknowledge the "mortal man." Even so, he left us with fantastic memories of himself.
