nice......i would want too add a few more things to that though. A leg press machine, leg curl machine for hamstrings, cable crossover, and another dumbell rack just like that but for heavier dumbells. What are the weights of your dumbells?
Actually I bought a squat press/standing calf raise machine since this video. Also the leg ext/ham curl and cable crossover is all built into the multigym station. DB's go from 5lb-100lb. Anything heavier I do on the power bar. I need to update this video!
Yea thats true.....you want big legs, squats are the way to go. I would just want a leg press just for a change. But really, if your trying to get shitbrick house legs, squats are the best for size, period. In my opinion, all you need to do is 3 exercises for legs, leg extensions, squats, leg curls. 4-5 sets each exercise, 8-15 reps.
squats/deadlifts/lunges/stepups= big strong legs and core, the leg extension is crap its hard on the knees causes imbalinces plus its gay. Name a situation in life that replicates the leg extnision or leg curl........there are none.
i'm fucking fed up with spinning up dumbells every time to increase the weight, yours look great in the rack, where did you get 'em and are you happy with them? thanks
Just got them from a local fitness store. $.49 cents per lb is the norm for cast iron DB's. I do like them but wish they were only in 10lb increments instead of 5lb. Too many DB's!
If you spent 10k for you entire gym, that's a lot. I spent under $500 and I almost have just as much if not more in my garage. Thanks to craigslist ofcourse. But, you do what makes you happy...Awsome gym!
I got them at TSC (Tractor Supply) they are called "Stall Mats" for horse barns. Roughly $45 each. They are essentially old rubber tires pressed into a mat.
The matting was $40 or $50 bucks and I got it at TSC (Tractor Supply) , they are actual stall mats for Horses. Basically used car tires ground up. I will say they have a slightly bad aroma at first but it goes away fairly quick. These things are very heavy and akward .They are excellent for working out on however. I can drop a 100lb dumbell from 3 foot high and no damage at all.
Depends on what you would define as size. I'm 6ft 270lbs and like to move heavy stuff around. Put me next to an NFL lineman and i'm probably a little small. :D
Nice gym, but IMO all those hex dbs weren't necesary, you could have looked for adjustable dumbells. Some bowflex ones go to 90 lbs and then you could have supplemented them with hex dbs.
Hex dbs are too pricy, but if you got the cash (which judging by your home gym you do) do it.
nice gym there dude i gat a small home gym my self not that big...thats a nice set of dumb bells you gat there and i know they aint cheap i have a few big dumb bells 2 100's 2 120's and plan to get 150's next summer...
Very nice. I've collected several of the same pieces but have them in a couple little ass bedrooms and spread throughout the house. I really like how you are set up in a nice big room like that. That's awesome. Ideally how you really would like a home gym or any gym to be. It kicks ass bro. Inspirational.
hey scorba im in the process of buying a bunch of machines and one thing i want is dumbells, ive always used rubber coated ones and i found a good price at 90cents a pound for them, but those metal ones you got i found those at 50cent a ppound so im almost dealing with double the price, how do you like the metal ones? you find the weight is fairly consistent between them, lol as pussy as it sounds, does the metal ones dig into your lets say ur doing chest press before u get them up?
You know I inherited most of these dumbells from my father as he's getting older and not able to use them so I traded that Nautilus selectech dumbell set for them.
At first I was real skeptical about using the cast iron hex dumbells but after a couple weeks I never noticed. I do prefer the style you are talking about but like you said, nearly twice as much, you can have a LOT more dumbells to choose from for the same price. This is coming from someone who was spoiled by commercial gym stuff.
alright thanks, i'll see what i can bargin down for the dumbells, when im done my gym i'll put it up, going with slightly different equipment but some of the same stuff, thanks again .
where do you buy your stuff from mate. Im from the UK and its kinda hard to find the 20kg olympic bar and i dont wnt tht 10kg bullshit. so wht company you get your stuff from?

I actually traded a set of those bowflex dumbells for my entire hex db set and rack.......I think I came out on top in that deal :D
scobra78 3 years ago
WHAT? what an amazing deal! Im so jealous that gym is all you need.
Rollride 3 years ago
hex dbs aren't necesary persay, but adjustable dbs are a pain, takes away concentration and time.
having the whole set of hex dumbells I guess is the way to go, easier, simpler (pricey) but I think totally worth it, (IMHO)
