This theory is bogus. The stock market crash was the trigger for great depression. At the time of the stock market crash you could buy on 100 percent margin. You could purchase $100 of stock totally on credit. If you stock value dropped to $50 then you had either put $50 in your brokerage account or sell your stop. Even banks were purchasing stocks on margin using money people deposited into a bank.

What happen was most stock dropped on Black Tuesday then people and also banks needed to sell their stocks fast to cover their margin call. This resulted in some banks going bankrupt. This caused people to take their money out of banks and this resulted in more banks to close. At the time there was no FDIC (federal deposit insurance) . If you bank want bankrupt then you lost all your money in that bank. This just snowballed.

Now lots of people have lost their saving so must cut back spending. Now depend for cars drops by a huge amount so the car company to prevent going bankrupt must layoff most of their workers. Now these worker have no jobs so they must reduce spending a lot. these works stop buying furniture so the furniture makers layoff most of their employees.. and this happens for other industries and and this snowballs and more and more people lost their jobs. Pearl Harbor happened because Japam has almost no natural resources (Oil, Coal, Iron Ore, etc) and the country they eventual occupied had large amounts of Natural resources. Who could stopped the Japanese.

The British were sorta of busy at the time. Remmber in 1939 that Britain declared war against germany after the German invasion. In 1940 German invaded France, Holland and Belgium. Only Britain was left in Europe and remember the Battle of Britain. Japan in 1941 wanted to continue to expand their Empire and Britain could not stop them. How had a big enough Navy to stop Japan.

They canceled the 3rd attack because they were afraid that the American Aircraft carrier could have found then and attack.

IF the 3rd attack happened then then the air fields, dry docks, oil storage tanks would have been destroyed. Check your history and you will find that even a Japanese mini-sub got into Pearl Harbor and attack 2 American ships but missed. If the American Aircraft Carriers had been destroyed then what was left of the American fleet would have to been withdrawn back to San Diego. Webster Tarpley theory is NOT supported by the facts.
