This has got to be Bell Telephone Hour or maybe Firestone ? Should be able to tell from announcer's voice introduction, but escapes me now. Firestone quit cuz they said there was not enough interest in music like this! They should have asked us.
Ahahahah, é davvero incredibile..... una canzone italiana cantata da un tenore italiano e i commenti al video sono solamente inglesi.....ma dove andrà a finire questo paese se non apprezziamo neanche i nostri stessi capolavori?
I Long To Kiss You A welcome breath of air carries the hollyhocks' scent. I watch you sleeping there, fragrant roses for your bed. The sun has slowly climbed and is warming the garden now; a gentle wind wafts by, kissing the curl on your brow. I long to kiss you... I long to kiss you... But I don't have the heart to wake you. I long to drift asleep I long to drift asleep for an hour, close enough to feel your breath!
Pt. 2 I can hear your heart as it drums pounding like the waves of the deep. My darling, who walks your dreams while you are sound asleep? My heart is troubled and insecure - I'm sick with jealousy. Do you dream of another? I can't endure the thought you're not dreaming of me. I long to kiss you... I long to kiss you... But I don't have the heart to wake you. I long to drift asleep I long to drift asleep for an hour, close enough to feel your breath!

Grande tenore, grandissimo voce, grande passione! The greatest tenor of them all, and the best looking. He had a perfect balance of chest resonance and head voice, and sang from his groin. His Calaf and Andrea Chenier were among the greatest role assumptions in the history of opera, and I can't think of anyone else in those roles.
No, io sono Americano ma ha un core Italiano. I am a voice coach who works with opera singers, and I had the great privilege to work with and know Franco Corelli for a period of two years. For me, he was ottimissimo.
No, I worked with him as pianist for the voice lessons he gave in New York City the last two years he spent there before moving back to Europe; he had already retired from the stage. On two occasions he sang for his students and the voice was intact, even though the nerves for performing were shot.
allinvideo...new to this ..just checked out gigli..i think he is sooo good..his voice is great it would sound better today than the thirty's sound..you can learn alot from what you guys are saying ..i got names i never heard of before and im checking them out ..Thank you all *S* Oh juan diego florez is good..*S*
Great example for amazing voice but wrong role is "A non mi ridestar," Werther. And it is astounding! There are different ways of going toward the same truth. The nuance of a Schipa or the direct intensity of a Corelli. But a Corelli is more primal and reaches more people imho. Squillo directly accesses your primal side - restraint is different.
Corelli might be the greatest tenor of all time. DiSteffano's vocie beyond his 20's was crap cause he ruined it. Yes Gigli was amazing, but a different vocie fach. Corelli had a huge instrument and could decrescendo from a full huge vocie to barely a whisper. lern your stuff people.
Nice to listen to the wonderful Corelli's voice. But definitively he wasn't a "canzonero". Those songs are better and traditionally sung by Gigli, Schipa, Buti, Caruso, De Lucia and others. Corelli is a king, at opera!
I've heard those CDs, from a friend that showed me. I just hate that, few tracks are good, major part are unbelievebly bad. I prefer some videos on YouTube, probably because were recorded live, than those CDs. My friend also complaint he didn't like, and he paid much more than this...
There are some weak Corelli compilation CDs that I believe you refer to. 'Songs And Arias' is a 2-CD set, 44 tracks. The quality is uniform, Corelli intense, involved and in good voice. Not every track is special but this CD has some worthwhile renditions of Neopolitan songs like Core 'Ngrato and 'O Sole Mio.
Sorry Pete, but Corelli to me is fantastic singing opera arias, at songs he appears to be only worried to present his wonderful voice. But, if you note that "I te vurria vasa" means "I long to kiss you", something to be sung softly to a girlfriend ears, Corelli voice means he's inviting Mr.Schwarzenegger to a kiss. Listen to Schipa on this.
I understand your point but I don't expect Corelli to deliver tender passages and nuance like Schipa did. I want Corelli emotionally invested and I expect that he'll sing big. I agree with you that he oversings this song.
Schipa made his reputation by recording albums of songs but his opera recordings (poor technology) are generally weak. At the same time there was a great tenor singing at the Chicago Lyric Opera, Antonio Cortis.
I had already prepared to copy such CDs to me, using my friend original ones, but I gave up. No, I didn't like his sole mio, nor his Core'ngrato. He doesn't (didn't) respect the music "andamento", breaking the music emotional sequence, to prepare himself to a high note. This I te vurria vasa was nice until this final note, became a vocal training.
Ok Pete. I also think it's a problem of taste. Like JoseLery, I suggest you to watch much Schipa, Gigli, Di Stefano, they were the kings of canzonetas.
Please don't take this as criticism, but as standard practice it would be great to have the date of performance, just for the sake of knowing where the artist was in his or her career. I know that is not always possible-this looks like Corelli-mid 1960's ?Pawlep-you continue to provide wonderful additions to music video history, and I for one am very greatful!
I actually hate missing dates myself, I put these videos on a few hours before catching a plane.. so there's my excuse. I will edit them all tomorrow and add dates. Thanks for mentioning it, I forgot!

Eppure per un qualche motivo tutta l'esibizione mi piace, davvero bella.

A matter of taste. Corelli has a heck of a voice. What do you want him to do? To conceal his voice?
Schipa, Pippo probably sang this song "sweeter" but Corelli still is Corelli...

all of these songs are to be sung with the force of passion. thank you corelli and del monaco who sing these songs like the godfather CARUSO!!!

Corelli: Songs And Arias (BMI) would be a good listen if you can find it (2 disc set that cost @$16 in 1999).
