I let Faize kick my butt because I own the Strategy Guide and if you lose to him it brings up Faize and Lymle's affection for each other and I support that paring.

But I heard losing to him actually makes Lymle like Faize a bit more.

OK why does a lot of faize's spells look like spells in the Tales of series. I mean Earth Gaive(sp?) looks like a cross between Stalagmite and Grave. Stone Rain is Stone Blast upside down. and lastly Ice Needles look like Freeze Lancer and even fires like it.  Anyone wanna tell me why.

the founders of Tri-ace worked on the Tales of Phantasia and left Namco due to creative differences, forming Tri-Ace. That's why the two series have some similariities.

indeed rei explained it very well, but remember that tri-ace only made the first tales game, tales of phantasia. the modern tales games are made by namco tales studio, and the more recent tales borrow more things from symphonia and abyss than from phantasia in terms of gameplay

Well in Star Ocean games there's rarely much line blurring The only characters I can recall with both phy. skills and spells are Fayt and Maria from Star Ocean 3.

there was adray and nel too, maria not so much if u mean offensive spells

Adray was like Faize; he had a sword, but just spells, Nel, Fayt, and Maria are hybrids skill wise. Tales did the whole mixing thing early with Tales of destiny, and again with Tales of the Abyss (Luke and Guy were the only characters with just techs..)
