  • Now compare life length.

  • Well they should have included the price as others say, but I want to know if the data have some errors like the common HDD's. Is it possible recover that more easy and more more cheaper that in a HDD?????????????????????????????. Great Video

  • Love the vibration test at the end!!! Dam

  • They should've include the price test :)

  • I find this lack of sound very disturbing.

  • 1:52 what an um, awkward choice of picture

  • Wow people hdd raid 0 is more cost effective and nearly as fast in read and write speeds to 1 ssd. Your system also feals faster because of the page file speeds with ssd. There are ways around1 ssd.

  • THAT VIBRATOR IS AMAZING!

Bet costs more than a dil- nvm.

  • that laptop with hdd in the vibration test will never ever work fully now lol

  • Now compare an SSD to a 15k HDD.

  • There has never been such a instant method of increasing speed. 10 year old computers can be given an extended life using ssd's.

  • @NearAbbeyRoad Actually, SSD's come with some drawbacks:

    1) They cost more per Gigabyte than HDD's do.

    2) The have a limited number of writes, meaning that eventually, they literally burn out.

    3) Because of #2, they only have a 3 year coverage, as opposed to some 10,000rpm HDD's that have a 5 year coverage.

    4) For the price of one 300GB SSD, I can RAID-0 two 150GB 10,000rpm HDD's which makes them nearly as fast as the one SSD, & with the remaining $ I can buy a third, larger HDD.

  • This is from 2007.

  • Problem is an SSD has a lot less storage space than an HDD

  • i still don't reckon ssd's are worth it at all, if people are willing to spend that much money just to halve their start up time then they need to get help.

  • @vidmanproductions it's not all there is.

storing your OS on the ssd is a good idea, it loads faster and is more responsive. you can also install softwares that rely on the ssd a lot (photoshop, video players, etc) to save time and have faster response times etc.

but I guess, since you think wanting more speed is stupid, that your pc is 14 years old and takes 30+ mins to boot, right?

  • @ExtraZorgy Wrong actually, my laptop is around half a year old. It has a 500gb Western Digital caviar blue HDD, which boots to desktop in around 35-40 seconds (Windows 7 64-bit) which is about the fastest boot speed you can expect from a conventional HDD, and i would also rather have 500gb of storage and decent speed than 160gb of super speed and shit storage size. So in my opinion its not worth it, unless you want to get picky about 15-20 seconds of boot and open programs faster.

  • @vidmanproductions

You can have the ssd having the OS and apps and data on a hdd. But a PC is needed for that not a laptop. You can have the best of both worlds.

  • @NearAbbeyRoad "You can have the ssd having the OS and apps and data on a hdd. But a PC is needed for that not a laptop."

Actually, laptops these days can house up to 3 HDDs or SSD's. My solution:

    Get one of those laptops.

Pack in two 500GB Hybrid HDD's and RAID-0 them (this gives me 1TB storage with damn near SSD speed, for a fraction of the cost), then I'd take a third, larger HDD, like a 1.5TB, and use that as Data/backup.

All for less than the price of one large SSD

    :D

  • @vidmanproductions This is why the tech gods gave us laptops with up to 3 HDD slots. Take two slots for a pair of simple 500GB 7200rpm HDD's and RAID-0 them. Take the third slot and pop in a larger capacity HDD (1TB+). The RAID-0 drives give you more speed and all their storage, and the larger drive is data/backup. Speed, security, and only the fraction of the cost of one 300GB SSD.

  • who the heck cares about weight

your not gonna handle the drive while working on the pc

  • Just love the vibration test! :D

  • pogpogcasino - This video was made in 2007, back when SSD's were brand new to the market. This video is a demonstration to give customers an idea for what SSD's are like and what they're capable of. Of course in 2011, SSD's have screamed past these speeds that Saumsung is showing.

  • Why do we have to compare non-mechanical to a mechanical device??? It's pretty obvious that Solid state device will win...but not the price. HDD rules again.

  • why yes... I personally like to use my laptop on top of lawnmowers and washing machines all the time >.>

  • I know SSD is a lot faster, but from the reviews I see on most products i'm looking at; SSD seems to be having a quality issue. Most ssd's I find aren't lasting longer than 6 months or having firmware problems. Anyone have any actual experience with an SSD that's been really good? I'm currently in the midst of building my pc and i'm contemplating SSD or HDD

  • @CynicalSpheres I've been using an Intel 320 160GB drive since March 2011. It works extremely well and is backed by a 5 year Intel warranty. Intel even includes software for monitoring health(mine is at 98% life left). My drive is expected to last 10 years according to Intel. I would definitely go Intel/Samsung/Crucial for reliability.

Personally, I would avoid Sandforce-based drives for the time being. Just make sure you're mobo will accept the SSD and you should have no issues.

  • was it a 7200 RPM HDD or a 5400 RPM HDD?

There is a difference there too

  • I have a 60MB Memory Stick and beat all of your arses!

  • now compare price

  • @napoleon950 Yep, id rather get 2.5tb hdd @ 5400rpm a lot CHEAPER than 60gb ssd which will cease to function after 6 months to 1 year... not to mention out of nowhere file corruption and worse, total file loss.

  • @napoleon950 Or get a 1tb hdd @ 7200RPM standart... 5400 are for laptops mainly... 10k for high end home pcs and 15k for servers and enthusiants aka geeks.

  • @napoleon950 Well, of course the cost is going to be a lot more. It's new technology. It will be what's used in the future as the price gradually goes down.

  • @napoleon950 broke ass... price is never an issue when doing high-level computing

  • @iddsalim

So i guess you have 2 SSD's in RAID 0 and an Intel i7-3960X ? Now that's high-end, or are you a broke ass ..?

  • HDD had an ORGASM

  • i have one and believe my, it is MUCH faster, maybe even more important then an processor if you want more speed.

  • @UTube4588 u have one of which?

  • @ikidtech my laptop has HHD and computer SSD, but ssd is much faster.

  • poor HDD must have freaked out during the vibration test...

  • So less is more?

  • @watchuuname no, less is less.

  • @l3g10nw Give me an example

  • @watchuuname mc donalds are mc donalds.

  • 106 personas tienen en sus computadoras un HDD

  • People in Japan should get SSD, so they could watch movies during the earthquakes :)

  • @JohnMirov - Oh yeah..People in Joblin could sure use these SSD during Tornadoes.

  • @JohnMirov

maybe you should experience earthquake and tsunami together in order to get waterproof latpop on heaven? Don't make such joke and is not funny.

  • @kelvinsw

It is not funny--it is practical :)

  • @JohnMirov Idiot, don't joke with this things.

  • @JohnMirov not funny ; )

  • @JohnMirov what?

  • bad video, the comparation is very incomplete

  • :D So funny end of the test :DDD

  • Have a primary SSD for OS and games and so forth, then store your shit on HDD... Why the fuck pay for 10TB SSD just so that moving your shit around goes 20 sec faster? Seriosly, if you're having problems with HDDs then there's something dangerously wrong with you. However, if you got tons of cash and no life, then by all means go for 100TB SSD.

  • @Stakan1 , do what I do.... Buy a cheap SSD, basic low storage for laptop to support operating systems and main program on the go like a 60GB+ ssd and use a 2TB network hard drive for storage and map it to my computer for additional stuff.

  • @markhorneyuk Yes, also a clever move.

  • sweet, I can now watch a movie while my laptop vibrates.

  • @HisMight1 You're an idiot. You need help in math, science and social skills.

  • Weight? Most pc enthusiasts use a desktop.

If you need to boot up 30 seconds faster everyday then you need to move some things around in your life, it's like needing to nuke poptarts instead of just putting them in the toaster.

Data speeds are the ONLY reason one pays around 2 bucks a gig for a SSD rather than say .60 a gig for a 10k RPM HDD.

Shut down speed, meaningless under any circumstance.

I don't shake my desktop, so...

Wait until mid 2012 when SSD prices will be .90 a gig.

  • Lmfao, bunch of cheapskates. Get your ass outta SSD videos. You'll never get your hands on one, and youll never see how fricken fast these things are.

  • Comment removed

  • @esclapter Mommy....Mommy.... We know who got you your SSD.

  • I prefer HHD because change is the worst thing in my life

  • @the747videoer I prefer HHD because the cost ratio of a mediocre boost in data speeds is not worth x4 the cost per gig. I have a total of 8.5 TB in HHD space, 4-2TB and a 500GB main, all 7200rpm. This is the LOGICAL choice for any pc enthusiast except the people that need super speed to feel good about themselves. I paid less than 350 for 8.5 TBs. I couldn't even get 250 GB for that with SSD. Only IDIOTS and people with no budget need SSDs currently. Market cuts in SSDs start in July 2012.

  • @TheUSMetalhead , The trouble is, your hdd is going to fail eventually, don't cry to us after that happends, that's what the SSD, HDD wears down too easily and the speed decreases, SSD will never change speed and last a lot longer than a platter, that is why people are going with SSD as for a window usage and standard program using and using a HDD for storage only, because that's all a HDD is good for, storage, I have a SSD on my laptop, and network HDD which I will renewal every 3 years.

  • @markhorneyuk I use 2-2TB as backup, everything I cherish is saved to each. Out of the dozen or so HDD drives I have bought only one has failed me under a year's use, another failed at 3 years, and my first 10k rpm drive just failed me this year after owning and using it for over 6. So please, don't tell me about failures.

Don't cry to us? Who the fuck is us and why would I cry? I'd cry if I paid over 200 for a tiny SSD that failed, but not a 40 dollar HDD. Good things come to those that wait.

  • @TheUSMetalhead , what do you use, do you have a laptop or a desktop?

  • Did anyone else have a voice in their head on the vibration test saying Error! Error! Error! whilst the arrow was moving?

  • They didn't show the write speed, I've heard that it's slower on SSD the smaller the file is. Helped a bit but not enough. :/

  • @NavyPanther54 , I've got a ssd, i've never experienced such problems.

  • and the winner is..................... SSD!!!

  • @maggot283 , they will come down in price, the ssd 60gb was originally £120, now they are £60, they've only just release 1TB ssd, they will go now in price in the next year or so, or maybe earlier, the fact is, Hdd is just.....plain crap, they only last 3 years on a computer and 6-12 months on a laptop, I've a 60GB ssd and a 2TB platter network drive for storage and running programs off it, I find this the better way than to risk data lost than having the platter inside my laptop....

  • @markhorneyuk Not anymore. It just went back up and worse due to the flood in southeast asia.

  • Ok I will wait for my computer to load a little bit slower and tasks to take longer to load. I did my research a long time ago and here is the big price difference, a 1tb HDD is about $80.00 give or take and the 1tb SSD was about $2,500. Now Im not about to spend $2,400 more just for my computer to be a little bit faster. I'll consider it when the SSD can preform 1000 times faster then an HDD.

  • Finally....I can use my laptop on a rollercoaster!

  • Only problem they don't tell wat SATA speed it's using. I think SATA 2? I have SATA3 SSD but only problem modern motherboards have only sh*tty controllers like Marvel or JMicron. Marvel SATA3 is true piece of sh*t. At first boot times i had the controller crashing 3 times. Also the read speed is impaired compairing to Intel's SATA 2 controller wich is a lot better. When ever Intel's SATA3 motherboard comes out, i'm first to go for it:P

  • The vibration test is not for people watching movies in earth quakes; it's more for things like if you have it in a backpack and it gets swung around, or in a car that's say 4wd.

  • @JustinShaedo Look at how rigerous the test was to actually make the HDD have a problem. Who puts there computer in that situation to be honest?

  • @maggot283 , laptop users......the vibration test is showing an example of moving a laptop from place to place which causes vibration on a hard drive, slowly damaging it, people who own laptops don't relies that when they take their laptops on holiday and to public places...etc, desktop computer hard drives have a life expectancy of 3 years +, some people who own laptops have had problems after 6-12 months, I too am very familiar with this.

  • What kind of porn need to watch to get these vibrations?

  • @Laimonas171 Well, when i get going.....

  • everything slows down on VISTA worse OS ever

  • Comment removed

  • @nintendoplayer27 on my SSD i got a lifetime warranty haha

  • @tomharris124 , yeah, unlike platter which is aimed to fail less than a year, just as the warrenty expires :P

  • Mas roda Crysis?

  • I think they forgot the price comparison

  • Cool, now i can work while rallying.

  • what if all the shaking just accidentally paused the video on the hdd laptop

  • why did anybody will get your laptop shake like that jajaa

  • can ssds hold 3tb of data though?

  • @confusioncaption

im sure in the future they will not that long ago the largest ssd's were only a gig or 2

  • @confusioncaption you don't want it for that, you want it for your games, os and software. you can get another hd with 3tb for your data.

  • @confusioncaption Well You can get 1TB SSD but there the best part of £4000

  • My computer has a regular SATA II 7200rpm HDD, and it boots Windows 7 in 40 Seconds...

  • Who the hell on earth is watching a movie during such vibration ??

  • @gio3357 it is a test to show that the ssd dont crash when your laptop/pc gets a big shock e.g. put the laptop too hard back on the desk

but the real problem is: who the hell on earth cannot wait a few seconds and buy such a extrem expensive ssd

for now ssd is only a nice feature for people with much money

  • @gio3357 Some of us like to jerk off in bed with the laptop resting on our chest... sometimes it can get a little extreme. That last test was specifically for us.

  • @gio3357 People in Japan.

  • @gio3357 japan????

  • @gio3357 I do, my head shakes becuase I have a headdamage, it syncs perfect (=

  • @gio3357 what if an earthquake comes when ur watching ur favorite movie? things need to be simulated! :D

  • @gio3357 Twitter during an earthquake

  • @gio3357 Think about japan.

  • @gio3357 Cosmonaut

  • @gio3357 I belive the japanese are

  • @gio3357 I take it you don't live in California?

  • @gio3357 Someone who is violently masturbating? You may never know man...

  • @gio3357 i do, sometimes >.<

  • @gio3357 When he is watching porn , such vibration exist .

  • @YourFaceIsMyToPunch , PMSL!!!!!!!!!!

  • Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love. All I wanna do is HAVE A FASTER COMPUTER. Shut up haters.

  • @pjconnor74 HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!!! jk mate :p

  • Long story short, 30+ seconds cost you $100+ more.

  • As much as I love the speed improvements of SSD's (I own one) on my PC I have a 1TB HDD storage drive, and a 60GB SSD. I installed OS on my SSD, making it the system default drive. The idea was to install all programmes to HDD and have SSD dedicated for OS. The issue with this is, some programmes have terribly badly scripted installers where they don't even give you and option to install to specific places. This led to my SSD filling with crap, leaving no space for updates for the OS. Why?...

  • I don't think that "right now", SSD's are worth the buy. You're only saving a few seconds. Is that really worth the extra $200 dollar price difference? Besides, a 500gb SSD cost about $400 dollars.

  • @GorillazGames Ocz Onyx SSD costs 85 USD. It makes computer 2x-3x faster. Find me another computer part that makes such difference.

  • @Anonymous595 You're right, but at the cost of speed, you're sacrificing a great deal of capacity. The hard drive you're talking about is probably only 30 or 40GB large. There's no way that's enough space for the modern day user. So, while I do agree that SDD drives are much faster and efficient, I can't say that they're worth the investment....at least right now.

  • @GorillazGames 30-40 GB is enough for system, all programs, and a few games. Of course you need 1 TB HDD for data too. (+ another one for backup)

  • @Anonymous595 , get a 2TB network drive.

  • 2:59 Finally... I can watch porn on my laptop without the dang thing getting freezed!

    XD

  • @CapnFuzz1111 Nice comment, dude...

  • Они бы еще CD с FDD сравнили. Бред!

  • No Sound on the video??

  • why are ssd's soo much money?

  • @stoner1768 you just saw why =).

  • @compguy531 oh yeah lol

  • Amazing only if they had 1TB ssd's for $70...

  • @308beatZ don't count on that coming out for at least another 10 years mate...

  • @308beatZ but sadly the 960gb model is over 3000$

  • вот сволочи, ноут сломали!

  • the huge problem with SSD is that it is still a young technology so only around 512 Gb is the most ive seen for one...while ive seen a 3 Tb HHD

and the cost of SSD is very high

    Seagate Barracuda XT 3 TB = $190

OCZ RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD 960 GB = $2,993 PLEASE READ!! : i know there is a SSD that has 5.12 TB (ioDrive Octal)

but imagine the astronomical price of that when a 960 Gb SSD is $2,993

  • @botdfbvb That's why people just buy 40/60 GB of SSD, to go with a TB or two of HDD. Booting from the SSD helps a lot, while your moviecollection doesn't need the expensive SSD. Unless you do watch movies whilst the sickest earthquake known to man is going on.

  • @w0uterrr so true well played sir./mam.

  • SSD will always be faster than HDD, so what's the point of this test?

  • @VideoUploaderTester Somehow I get the feeling that explaining it to you will be a big waste of time.

Anyway. For people who are planing to buy an ssd (including myself) and want to see how it compares to an hdd, videos like this can be very helpful.

  • @VideoUploaderTester whyd you come to the link then?

  • @Pureshadow Because chinks are ugly :)

  • @VideoUploaderTester Is that your fetish?

  • @Pureshadow Yep, since chinks are short, fat, yellow-banana-skinned, flat-faced, buck-teethed, slant-eyed, and ugly :)

  • is there any practical use for a 60GD HDD? no? then you get my point.

also, I hope they're not comparing the SSD vs a 5400 RPM...

  • SSDs are better. Trust me, I'm *The* Doctor.

  • @MultiFinder17 but i need a banker to give me a credit for buying an ssd

  • @Timurchin1

so why you went to a doctor in the first place if you don't have money ? XD

  • Good Test Good Video and Not Good Price.

  • LoL Mac vs PC debate in youtube comments,

as useful as taking a crap on a wet newspaper.

  • sexy

  • cool

  • Why are we talking about Alienware? Your wasting hundreds of dollars if you do not have a custom built machine.

  • @lotmein20 Do you even know what Xeons are....

  • @lotmein20 O thats right the most expensive Mac's 12 core loses by the Alienware's 6 core...

  • @lotmein20 Cheapest alienware is as expensive as the cheapest mac, most expensive Alienware is 20k+, so is the Mac. You can take both of them apart, and put practically whatever you want besides a new motherboard in them. My friend has a Mac Pro with GTX 580 in it, so yeah, guess it doesn't support high-end cards.

Hardware in Mac is the same as any other PC, only difference is the OS, really don't get why people don't get that.

  • @lotmein20 They cost exactly the same as a friggin Dell, and if you buy the iMacs or laptop's then herp derp they aren't upgradeable. There's more than 1 Mac genius, and I'd rather a Mac than a Dell or any other pre-built garbage any day of the year (and before you say anything, yes, I know how to build a PC).

  • @mario11168 Obvious pc noob is obvious. Keep wasting your money faggot.

  • When I see a 500gb SSD for less than 80 dollars we might talk, but over 1,500 they can go f themselves.

  • grr why do they use windows....

  • I love the features of this device!

  • Just had a look at online stores and the 1.28 GB model of SSD currently sells for a rough average of $50,000 AU. I'ma gonna sell ma house and have ma fancy hard drive!!! >.<

  • @jyork85 Do you know how expensive the first 1GB hard disk was?

  • Ahhhhhhh yes the old Industry Standard Vibration Test -.-'

  • that last test is a cop out, no moving parts assholes.

  • My Ubuntu boots in 15 seconds from external HDD. Also it opens 25MB pdf file in 1 second or faster. I really wanna see how fast it get with SSD! It looks like SSD is over 2 times faster, so it would boot in 7 seconds and open pdf files before I click them!

  • So should I go with a SSD for my OS and just buy a 1 TB for storage?

  • SSD is certainly the way forward.

  • Нечестно. Показали только слабые стороны hdd.

Для справедливости следует включить в тест и слабые стороны ssd.

  • left : celeron - right : i7

kidden but SSD costs alot of money and little capacity

  • SSD's are becoming cheaper, you can get a decent one for $80, obviously not much space, but still worth it imo, infact if you wanna see significant performance boost its gonna come from an SSD..

  • i will never put my laptop on that shaking machine.... i would put my girlfriend

  • wtf....

i dont shake my pc the whole day :D

and no. i will not buy a ssd.

    cost test add please :P
